Got this so far.

San Antonio rookie Tiago Splitter left late in the third with a strained left hamstring and did not return.

“It’s a little bit painful right now but I’ll be good,” Splitter said.

Lower back and hamstrings are related. I'm not sure if it was just a hamstring issue. He took quite a fall.

I'm sure he will spend some time on the massage table getting physical therapy.

...Tiago Splitter (strained left hamstring) and Gary Neal (tweaked right groin) left in the second half.

Neither injury was immediately considered serious, though the pair will be re-evaluated today to determine their status for Friday at Philadelphia.

The medical staff will also take a precautionary look at Matt Bonner’s right knee. After missing 10 games with a marrow edema, he played in both ends of the back-to-back.

Is he going to miss time?

He doesn't get playing time anyway even when he's healthy, so it doesn't matter all that much, especially now that Bonner is back.

...Splitter also provided an injury update earlier today (http://twitter.com/tiagosplitter) by his Twitter account on that nasty hamstring sprain he picked up late in the third quarter in the Spurs’ victory in Toronto:

“Man I feel pain everywhere, but I will be fine… Thanks for the support..”

Which makes it sound like he might be ready to play in Philadelphia Friday night.

Last night was the most impressed I've been with Tiago all season. He looked like a legit future starting center for this team, and I'm finally getting excited about his potential. Up through January, he was leaning more towards bust than star, and I was really down on him. He already is one of the better pick-n-roll defending centers in the LEAGUE... he moves his feet impeccably and keeps his hands up.

He probably won't play tomorrow even if he is good to go. Unless we're finally in the midst of a stretch where Pop just plays him consistently, which I doubt. I think it's more likely he sits tomorrow, then plays early and often the following night. That's how Pop's been handling the back to backs to this point.

Considering Mcdyess did not play yest. and is well rested there really is no need to play splitter on friday. It seems that the rotation consists of Splitter or mcdyess subbing for TD with bonner coming on for Blair. Depending on the team there playing seems to dictate how much PT mcdyess or Splitter recieves.

...Tiago Splitter is out again..."He can’t tie his shoes,” Popovich said. “If you can’t tie your shoes, you can’t play.” Splitter won’t play against the 76ers, and his status for Saturday’s back-to-back finisher at Washington is in doubt.

...Tiago Splitter tested his strained left hamstring before Saturday’s game and came back with a two-word assessment.

“Not good,” he said.

Splitter missed his second game with the injury in Washington. He is considered day-to-day going forward.

...The injury marked another unfortunate chapter in Splitter’s inaugural NBA season. Had he been healthy, Splitter would have been due a heaping helping of minutes in Saturday’s massacre.

“I’m just having bad luck,” Splitter said.

How bad is the hamstring strain? Didn't it take James Anderson 4 or 5 months for his to heal?

Obstructed_View
02-13-2011, 02:20 AM
JA hurt his hamstring working out before the draft, and they kept him out of summer league as a precaution, but I don't think they take that long to heal. Did Splitter have a hamstring injury earlier in the season? If so, is this an aggravation of that or something new?

toki9
02-13-2011, 02:45 AM
i believe this is new, incurred during the Raptors game when Calderon (I think?) ran into Splitter as result of Manu pushing him. Supposedly this led to a nasty spill for Splitter and thus the hamstring/lower back problem.

SnakeBoy
02-13-2011, 03:20 AM
How bad is the hamstring strain?

Pop says it's not too bad and Tiago should only miss 20 minutes of playing time. So we'll get to see him play again sometime in April.

To be fair if he was healthy preseason and able to learn the system and Pop gave him minutes he's more than capable of putting up 11 & 8. I wouldn't be surprised if he puts up similar numbers to that next season.

You can thank Manu for that.

Personally wondered whether "the push" was a frustration move related to Manu's recent slump. The fallout was Tiago's hamstrings/obliques. That was easily the nastiest spill I've seen a Spur player take this season.

According to Bill Land via the Spurs-Nets telecast Tiago is in San Antonio receiving an MRI, like, right now.

...With time running out for Splitter to find a place in Popovich’s playoff rotation, the break will afford him extra time to nurse his latest injury, a strained left hamstring suffered Feb. 9 in Toronto.

..."There really aren’t enough minutes to train him right now,” Popovich said. “Whenever we’ve gotten the opportunity, we’ve gotten him on the floor. Unfortunately for us and for him, he hasn’t been as much a part of the mix as we thought he would be.”

I don't ever remember a big man spending as much time on the floor as Tiago has. (Okay... maybe Shaun Bradley.) I've questioned it a few times during games. But when I've looked back, it's not because he has been clumsy or a lightweight. He has just taken some really wicked shots from other players. The one fall on that dunk was self-inflicted, but most of the time he has gone down has been because somebody knocked the crap out of him. And I really don't remember seeing anyone else take as many of those shots. I kind of felt sorry for him a few times.

I've seen him get pretty physical down low, and he's drawn some offensive fouls. Is he getting in opposing players' heads? Or has he just been in the wrong place at the wrong time? I honestly can't decide. I do hope he can learn to flop, so at least he can get a few more whistles out of some of these shots he's taking.
