View Full Version : $3.5 million US AID spent per day on Eqypt's Military

Per recent Time article. It would assume how its worded that this has been an accurate amount for some time now. Remember, this is JUST the military.
Do we REALLY need to give that much aid for the middle east when we're talking about SS and Health Care? Wonder what it would take to stop policing the rest of the world and focus on at home......

You ARE focusing on at home. It always baffles me how people fail to understand how important diplomacy is with regards to national security and American interests abroad. War isn't the only means of getting what you want.

Subsidizing the mid east to keep the status quo in order to protect the interest of our oil supply?
Tell me, what Govt. aspect do you use/appreciate that you would like to cut in order to keep funding foreign military's?
Do you want to continue being the world's police?

First of all, you'll notice I'm not American, hence the flag. Second of all, nobody appointed the US "World Police". You are however its most powerful nation with ties to and businesses with almost every nation in the world. It wouldn't be in your best interests not to mention completely unrealistic to expect the US to simply "let the world be". Plus if you think this is subsidizing you're being naive. Anyone who thinks the US is getting nothing from this is either ignorant or deluded.
I don't particularly like how the US "polices" the world in a lot of instances, but I'm not in the camp with those who think the world OR the US would benefit from them not doing so at all.

Haven't you heard? The GOP transformed from not being-the-world-police party to the liberators/ nation building party... of course their platform flipped flopped when a dem was in office at the time..

It would be hilarious if current day Egypt went to war with Israel again and they both used American provided weapons to fight each other. :lol

No shit. Egypt has the 4th largest fleet of F-16's in the world and actually has a factory producing M1A1 Abrams tanks.

The Palestine Papers, or How Everything You Thought You Knew about the Peace Process Was Wrong
And that's why Netanyahu told his ministers, "We are closely monitoring events in Egypt and the region and are making efforts to preserve its security and stability." He knows that a dictatorial Egypt guarding Israel's southern flank is the best insurance for continuing the occupation or coddling the PA into selling out its people. Without Mubarak or a likeminded substitute - perhaps, they pray, as the situation in Egypt slips out of control, Mohamed ElBaradei, the former head of the International Atomic Energy Agency, will maintain the peace treaty - a reconfiguration of the regional map looms, and with it will come an end to the Israeli occupation.
For that reason, among others, Israel and America are both hoping that Mubarak is able to beat back or tamp down his people's revolutionary surge, or at least prevent any real change in the matrix of power in Egypt. As revolution and counterrevolution duel in Tahrir Square, the outcome of the struggle is far from determined. But one can be sure that Israel, the PA and America alike are watching closely and intervening as they can, desperate to put the regional system of Israeli-American domination in stasis, and worrying anxiously that the revolution in Egypt will succeed and bring that system crashing down.

Do we REALLY need to give that much aid for the middle east when we're talking about SS and Health Care? Is it that too much to spend on Egypt? Would the proper level of aid be zero dollars?

We give it to them as a bribe in exchange for access to their air space and strategic military access points. Maintaining an empire is expensive.

Pretty easy when its a big picture and i'm looking for it. Otherwise, i have no reason to know what argentina's flag looks like. Blue white blue with an emblem in the middle.
How dare I post anything, i've obviously just registered on this site two weeks ago.
I'm not that much of a basketball fan anymore. Without a reason to watch, mainly kg, i find teams that are of no interest to me boring. I'll catch a few games now and then though. Nothing like the NFL where two teams that are horrible late in the season still give it their all every second. But thanks for caring about my leisure time.

Someone who can't identify the differences between an Argentinian flag and the flag of Israel should probably never make a post about anything having to do with our foreign policy.
If thats how intellectuality lazy you are then you should stick to planting flowers and leave the hard flag identifications to people who actually care enough to learn a bit about them.

Fucking Israel. Just move. Move to Canada, move to Wisconsin, repopulate the Appalachian. We continue to piss away billions in that perma-shithole known as the middle-east while we do little to slow down the inevitable. The cavemen are going to get Nukes.
If God really favored you, you'd be harvesting oil and not growing peaches. Time to throw in the towel and let the Middle East do what it's going to do.
U.S. aiding Egypt. What. is. that. shit. Land of the Pharaohs and Sphinx can't even take care of themselves? We look like Anubis to ya'll? Have some self-respect from whence you came Egyptian bros. You used to sport 10 year old leaders and still do pretty good. Crack open a pyramid, let a mummy return, and handle your own shit. Oh no, the Suez Canal. Getting cut off from foreign aid will force us to become more independent.

AIPAC's $$$ certainly keep UCA commited to Israel, but much more important for the UCA in the M/E is the oil.
Did anybody miss this?
Gas Field Confirmed Off Coast of Israel
JERUSALEM — Exploratory drilling off Israel’s northern coast this week has confirmed the existence of a major natural gas field — one of the world’s largest offshore gas finds of the past decade — leading the country’s infrastructure minister to call it “the most important energy news since the founding of the state.”
Houston-based Noble Energy, which is working with several Israeli partner companies, said that the field, named Leviathan, whose existence was suspected months ago, has at least 16 trillion cubic feet of gas at a likely market value of tens of billions of dollars and should turn Israel into an energy exporter.
http://www.nytimes.com/2010/12/31/world/middleeast/31leviathan.html?_r=1&pagewanted=print

So now UCA's gascos will be all over Israel to get at that gas.
