Give it up man. Normally elite teams lose about 5 games a season because 3 or so key players stink up the joint. In our case, 5 or 6 key players had a horrible game. Give it up man. Normally elite teams lose about 5 games a season because 3 or so key players stink up the joint. In our case, 5 or 6 key players had a horrible game. In a way, it's better that it happened on the same night. I fully expect Pop to chew them out and for the Spurs to win out the rest of the RRT.
Again, what other contender has a 25 point half? Is the sky falling? Did I say the season was over? Fire Pop? Kill Man?
No.
Make of it you will.

No other contender has 40+ wins either, or the best road record, or the best record against .500 teams. Like I said, other contenders normally drop several games because a few of their players suck ass. We just happened to drop one in shit-tastic fashion where almost everyone sucked ass.
Having a 25 point half may be a unique achievement for the Spurs, but it has no other implications on the big picture. All this means is that our lousiest game is lousier than the other team's lousiest game. It doesn't matter if the Spurs play a 25-point half once in 50 games.

I disagree. And so does Pop I gather, from his comments lately about our state of play. IMO This is not just standard coach talk, as we really haven't been playing well lately.
The big picture isn't necessarily limited to our record, and things don't necessarily have to fit some preconceived pattern.

Pop's concern about our play is a whole different matter. As I mentioned in another thread, I'm concerned about Manu's long-range shooting, Hill's road performance and our turnovers. But all of those were true even before this horrible game. This one game has done little to affect that big picture.
I maintain that such stinkers can happen to anybody, including the best teams in the league. Since you keep asking for examples of other contenders stinking it up in similar fashion, here are a couple.
Last year, the eventual champion LA Lakers scored a mere 23 points in the 2nd half in a 26-point home loss to the Nuggets.
LAL-DEN box score (http://www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/200911130DEN.html)
The 2005 Spurs championship team scored 28 in a half vs Houston and only 67 for the whole game.
SA-HOU box score (http://www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/200501150HOU.html)
Your other concerns about the Spurs are valid, but let us not make too much of this one game.

LOL, not going to, but I put it to you that I'm not the one making too much of this game. I just asked a question and was showered with insults. Thanks for your sensible respectful reply however.
Yep, it comes with the sports forum territory, but I'm always amazed how some folks regard any contrary opinion as some kind of personal affront. That's the nature of the internet I suppose.

Some post-game quotes.
Holiday scores 27 to lead 76ers past Spurs 77-71 (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/recap?gid=2011021120)
The 76ers' chances of winning when they score less than 80 points are usually pretty slim. Even slimmer when it happens against the best team in the league.
But Philadelphia played perhaps its best defensive game of the season and wound up with a confidence-building victory as Jrue Holiday scored 27 points to lead the Sixers to a 77-71 victory over the league-leading San Antonio Spurs on Friday night.
Spencer Hawes added 13 points and Elton Brand tied his season high with 17 rebounds for the Sixers, who defeated the Spurs for the fourth consecutive season in Philadelphia. The Sixers hadn't won a game when scoring less than 80 points since a 78-76 win at Detroit Dec. 9, 2003. And the Spurs were 12-0 when holding opponents below 90 points this season.
"Defense won us this game," Brand said. "We got hands in their faces and made them take difficult shots. Great win for us. It was due to defense. The Spurs are known for winning games like this. We stuck with it defensively and got it done."
Despite shooting poorly all night, the Sixers were able to fend off the Spurs and remain in the seventh spot in the Eastern Conference playoff race. The Sixers have won eight of their last 11 overall.
"What an incredible display by our guys defensively," Sixers coach Doug Collins said. "I've never been more proud of them. That was a grind-it-out type of game."
Tim Duncan had 16 points and 13 rebounds, while Antonio McDyess added 11 points and 11 rebounds for the Spurs, who had their four-game winning streak snapped. Gary Neal scored 11 points and DeJuan Blair had 14 rebounds for San Antonio, which was trying to become the sixth team in NBA history to begin 45-8 or better and the first since the 1996-97 champion Chicago Bulls.
The Spurs shot just 33 percent from the field (27 for 81), including 3 for 17 from 3-point range.
"I think it set offensive basketball back a decade or so," San Antonio coach Gregg Popovich said.
The Spurs had been 4-1 on their season-high nine-game road trip dubbed the "Rodeo Road Trip," when the rodeo takes place at the AT&T Center. The trip takes 17 days and will take the Spurs on 8,187 total miles in the air.
"Down the stretch, we made a couple of turnovers and missed some shots," Popovich said.
After Duncan's layup got the Spurs within 73-71 with 2:06 remaining, neither team was able to convert on its next possession with Manu Ginobili missing a wide-open 3-pointer from the top of the key.
San Antonio had another chance to tie it, but Ginobili took an off-balance jumper from 20 feet which was contested by Andre Iguodala.
"Andre was great on the defensive end," Brand said. "He was so active, all over the place."
Holiday knocked down a pair of free throws with 19.9 seconds left to give the Sixers a 75-71 advantage. Holiday earlier hit a long 3-pointer to give the Sixers a 71-67 lead with 4:43 left.
"Holiday was the difference-maker in the game," Spurs forward Richard Jefferson said. "When he was open, he was able to knock down shots."
But Duncan responded on San Antonio's next possession with a runner in the lane to close the gap to 71-69.
Tony Parker shot just 3 for 10, while Ginobili was 2 for 10, and 0 for 5 from beyond the arc.
NOTES: The Spurs closed the first half with a 12-6 spurt to tie the game at 46. ... Popovich has the most tenure among NBA coaches with the resignation of Utah's Jerry Sloan on Thursday. Popovich, in his 15th season, has 780 career wins. ... Spurs F Tiago Splitter was inactive with a strained left hamstring. ... Philadelphia begins a three-game road trip Saturday at Minnesota before heading to Memphis and Houston. ... The Sixers donned red jerseys to support heart awareness.

Spurs still rocky in Philly (http://blog.mysanantonio.com/spursnation/2011/02/11/spurs-still-rocky-in-philly/)
Jeff McDonald
...“(Holiday) was the one guy, when he was open, that was able to knock down a shot,” Richard Jefferson said. “I think he hit more jumpers than our entire team.”
..."Both teams kept motoring and kept after it,” said Popovich, whose team dropped to 4-2 on its rodeo trip. “But neither team could hit a damn shot.”
..."The thing about our team this year, somebody is normally going to hit at least long enough to get someone else going,” said Jefferson, who was 1-for-8 with three points. “That didn’t happen tonight.”
..."(Holiday) started from the get-go with curls and stuff like that,” Parker said. “Sometimes, in the NBA somebody gets hot and it doesn’t matter what you do.”
..."We can’t do any worse than we did tonight,” Parker said.

Notes on a scorecard: Not much affection for Spurs in the city of brotherly love (http://blog.mysanantonio.com/spursnation/2011/02/11/notes-on-a-scorecard-not-much-affection-for-spurs-in-the-city-of-brotherly-love/)
Tim Griffin
There are bad offensive games.
And then, there are games like the Spurs played Friday night in Philadelphia.
The Spurs were absolutely miserable offensively in a 77-71 loss that set season lows for fewest points, shooting percentage and 3-point percentage. San Antonio’s shot 33.3 shooting percentage from the field and 17.1 percent from behind the arc. Their scoring total was the lowest since scoring 67 points on April 23, 2009, against Dallas in a Game 3 playoff loss. And it was the worst scoring effort in the regular season since a 90-64 loss to Utah and Jerry Sloan on April 4, 2008.

Just watched the game and the Spurs look like trash. We haven't really looked good all road trip as far as complete games go. Apart from the Lakers game Spurs are only playing about 1 good quarter of basketball which is NOT good enough.
What is Manu shooting from 3 point range in the last 6 weeks? 12%?
FUCKING horrible Manu.
RJ can you ever drive the ball or are you just going to stand around and shoot, even when you are 1-6?

lol that was pathetic. The Spurs were getting rebounds all game and then when we needed them we gave them right up thanks to Bonner.
Pop is a fucking fool playing Bonner. He wasn't doing shit all game and the Sixers were too quick and too active to let him get any shots up, so in other words he was useless, but Pop has him out there anyway.

Philadelphia 76ers 77, San Antonio Spurs 71: Will somebody make a shot? (http://www.48minutesofhell.com/)
by Scott Sereday
48 Minutes of Hell
WELLS FARGO CENTER — In a game that Spurs Head Coach Gregg Popovich said “set offensive basketball back a decade or so,” the Spurs fell to the 76ers 77-71 in Philadelphia. The Spurs half court defense looked excellent, but in the end, the offense was simply too anemic to pull this one out.
Almost everyone struggled to find the bottom of the net on this night. Incredibly, each Spurs starter finished with more field goals attempted than points scored. Tim Duncan went 7-18, Richard Jefferson 1-8, DeJuan Blair 3-11, Tony Parker 3-10, Manu Ginobili 2-10 and off the bench, George Hill went 0-6. As a team, the Spurs made only 3 of 17 from down town and (I estimate) 6 of 34 on 2-point J’s. The offensive ineptitude appeared endless.
Perhaps the best offensive performance was from old reliable himself, Antonio McDyess, who finished with 11 points on 5 of 7 shooting and 11 rebounds in 20 minutes. I know Philly has a solid defensive team, but come on… can’t anybody create with efficiency?

Sixers' goal is to become like the Spurs (http://www.courierpostonline.com/article/20110212/SPORTS03/102120351/Sixers-goal-is-to-become-like-the-Spurs)
By Martin Frank • For the Courier-Post
..."It's amazing in terms of consistency," Collins said. "They're 24-1 this year against teams under .500. You would think a team that's been around for a while, won championships, been 10 or so years together, would take a night off somewhere.
"I don't see any weakness. I think it's great because they're a team we'd like to model ourselves after -- high character, talented players who love to play. You never hear anything coming out of San Antonio. They just love to play."
...The Spurs crushed the Sixers the first time they met, on Nov. 13 in San Antonio. The final score was 116-93, but it wasn't even that close as the Spurs outscored the Sixers 35-12 in the third quarter and led by as many as 32. The Sixers fell to 2-8 with that loss.
"At that point, they had no clue, didn't understand the system, didn't know what Doug wanted and Doug was trying to figure them out," Popovich said. "You can see the persistence of both coaches and players has paid off. They not only understand the system, but they believe in it. They're playing with confidence and trust and enthusiasm."
