Someone has to say it so I will...I'm tired of this misconception about MJ floating around out there...

MJ played in a finals when basically all he had was diarrhea and tried to pass that shit off as the flu...the flu is a fancy way of saying diarrhea so as to avoid embarrassment...guys play with "the runs" all the time...no big fucking deal MJ...:lol

whereas Kobe played last year with basically a fucking compound fracture, a knee that was drained and needed major surgery, and back spasms...

So judge for yourselves but I say Kobe's effort was way more heroic....Personally I couldn't shoot with only 4 fingers on my main shooting hand...with my index finger bubble wrapped...

Excellent thread.

Facts: MJ's diarrhea > Kobe...Kobe breaks like a China Doll, not sure that's something you want to promote. His hands are broken from all the chucking, especially in recent years. MJ's diarrhea must have been hell at the foul line...you ever try to shoot a free throw while having to control your bowels like that? The concentration must have taken a lot out of the poor guy. Have some empathy for MJ taking one for the team like that and getting a ring.

LOL what does "basically a fucking compound fracture" even mean?

Apparently it means he had tape on his finger. Honestly, Jordan has more playoff highlights in his career than Kobe has total highlights.

They're both a couple of Prima Donnas tbh. Kobe's is just a little more pathetic because his is an unoriginal ripoff of Jordan's shameless attention whoring.

Kobe is by far the most emotionally needy player to play the NBA. He reminds me of my sister.

heroic my ass - he coat tailed a 6 for 24 brick of a finals game and lots of love from the refs into one of the most nebulous finals MVPs of all time.

I wasn't a fan of MJ, but tbh diarrhea > Kobe's pain.

Can you imagine running around for an entire game trying not to shit your pants? Clinching those cheeks together for that long is much more difficult than playing with any kind of pain.

I teared up after scrolling from the pic of Mike being held up to the pic of Kobe's wrapped finger. We're lucky Kobe's still with us today after that ordeal.

Nobody should have to go through that. Nobody.

That pic should serve as a grim reminder to all us little people out there how dangerous the life of a professional athlete can be. They EARN those millions and millions of dollars.

They G*ddamn earn it.

There is only one non heroic superstar in the NBA -I will absoutely never by a jersey or any other thing from or for my son, and his name is not Jordan.

jordan's 'sick game' is the most overrated thing ever in the nba...give me a break, if he was really that sick hes not going to be able to play much less score 38 in a finals game.

it was just a perfect 'story' custom made to fit jordan and to blow out of proportion just because it was him.

Kobe's tough, but MJ that game probably felt like crap. The thing the two of them have in common is if it's really that bad there is no way at all they could play the game period. It just has an effect on the performance but if they can play they are not that bad off.

Jordan 6 Finals MVPs

Kobe 2 Finals MVPs

Younger Kobe was an assassin, but was never in the same class as Jordan, ever.

Problem with this thread... Kobe is scratched in a arm, and is suddenly news everywhere, stupid surprise if he plays with a small injury, etc.

On MJ NBA days, there was no hourly reports through the internet. MJ could have had played with 5 different types of cancer, none one would have known, he could have sucked, and everyone would flamed him anyway.

Kobe is pretty much like Pierce (maybe not as much, but you get my point). This two love the "I'm a hero, I'm dying of my wounds, but I'll do my best and win for my people" crap (only Pierce invents his injuries on the court).

Not saying Kobe is not tough, because he is. But OP is an idiot by trying to make a point on toughness considering what the internet was back then, and what it is now. And even more considering how the game was played back then.

MJ played basketball successfully with a fever of 102, stomach virus, nausea, and weakness.

Jordan looked awful that game. Sometimes you can look at someone and tell they're not well. Even if you just chalk it up to diarrhea, he went out and scored 38 points, including the game winning three, which is still pretty damned impressive (even for someone that's completely healthy).

The difference in Kobe's episodes is they're used by his faithful fans as an excuse for his failures.

Kobe played pretty good one night with vaginal discomfort, puffy breasts and a stinging sensation in his bunghole.

To be fair, Kobe himself uses excuses as well, not just his fans..

You might be able to suggest that he plays things up to be dramatic, but I've certainly never heard him make excuses. If there are examples out there I'd be interested in seeing them.
