I actually just saw death race.when I saw the preview to part 2. I was like huh..there is a part one? So I rented it.

The acting was pretty bad and lots of corny lines but on the upside I like the cars and guns. Reminded me of twisted metal :)

paying money to see the Fockers only encourages Stiller and DeNiro to make a part 4.

tbh, nobody really deserves to get beatdown over that, any more than someone deserves to get run over by your wife for drinking a Pepsi.

I guess it's technically a tv mini series but I recently watched Lonesome Dove for the first time. I give it 9/10.

The acting was top-notch, and the story and dialogue stayed remarkably close to the book. For such a monster of a story, it paced very well on screen too.

I deducted one point for the following:

-Occasional 80's cheesiness like freeze-frames to end each episode
-Although sufficiently developed for film, the characters lacked some of the trademark depth that you find in McMurtry novels
-Blue Duck was played by a damn guero

Costigan's extremely reckless arrest attempt after years of painstakingly careful undercover work, plus the fact he is sitting on a mountain of evidence he has already copied and merely needs to courier to a DA.

Dignam's completely unexplained emo disappearance after everything goes to shit, just when his undercovers (there couldn't only be one in the whole city, right?), which only he knows about and literally fought to protect, need him most. Sure, he was put on leave, but is a paid vacation really supposed to stop this guy?

Madolyn's absolute inaction at the end of the film when she is sitting on part of the mountain of evidence that was hand delivered to her. All she could do was give a glare that apparently implied an abortion of a child who might not even belong to the recipient of said stare.

And who the hell knew anything about Delahunt before the press release?

Focker series are pretty funny tbh.

I thought Meet the Parents was great. In fact, the more I watch it, the funnier it gets.

The 2nd one sucked ass. Streisand and Hoffman were totally miscast and the film was a pile of crap.

The 3rd one is an obvious money grab and nothing about the previews or any reviews I've read would suggest otherwise.

And your lame attempt about my wife running over me is cute, but you really look like a idiot and a complete fool for trying to rag on a married couples relationship imho, fwiw. :lol

I'm just poking fun because you said your wife would run over someone with a car if they drink a Pepsi in front of her....not to mention that you have left a restaurant before because they served Pepsi instead of Coke.

I think it is possible that Madolyn gave the evidence to Dignam, although that would just beg the question of why Costigan didn't just go straight to Dignam in the first place.

I'd say probably because he wanted the satisfaction of taking down Sullivan himself. On top of that, there was a whole lot of the movie dedicated to the fact that Costigan and Dignam weren't BFF. "Fuck you, motherfucker!" and such.

And I think ChumpDumper is mistaking plot holes with his lack of understanding a character's motivation. On top of that, I don't see how it could have been any clearer that Madolyn gave Dignam the information. Did a scene of her giving it to him have to be shown?

Dignam left and then basically immediately after that Sullivan turned on Costello and the final showdown happened. Did the story being told demand an explanation as to why Dignam wasn't around on a raid being organized by somebody he hates? I really don't see any sort of "emo disappearance" at all.

Did the story being told demand an explanation as to why Dignam wasn't around on a raid being organized by somebody he hates? I really don't see any sort of "emo disappearance" at all.I didn't expect you to see it tbh; there was a fair amount of time between the raid and Costigan's attempted arrest (he had to get the evidence from the lawyer, evaluate and copy it). But Madolyn's untold actions almost make sense (long after it would have mattered to her patient/love interest/honest cop) -- maybe I missed a cue somewhere, but it's not like Scorsese was being overly subtle in that movie. Costigan's stupidity doesn't make any sense, but I can see why you would identify with stupid character decisions.

Delahunt makes some sense now after seeing that scene once more, though -- except that nothing ever came of what he knew after being there longer than Costigan.

I'm sure I rated it too low; there are some great performances in it.

I watched a bunch of movies lately but these two stand out in my head:

Takers (2010) (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1135084/)

This movie is about some bank robbers who have one bad heist that costs them dearly. If you thought "Heat" when you read this, you were right. It's basically the 2010 version of that Al Pacino/Robert DeNiro epic. With less acting firepower, you could imagine the lines to be delivered a little cornier, and the plot to be a little easier to predict. You'd be right about that too. But, this movie was entertaining and enjoyable, and that's all I need to see in an action flickto give it Two Spurs Up.

The Social Network (2010) (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1285016/)

This one was hard to sit through. The character of Mark Zuckerberg (Facebook CEO and founder) was irritating throughout. He was everything you'd imagine in a pompous little kid running a major tech company like it takes no skill. It was like watching Good Will Hunting but with more annoying cliche' Harvard Square scenes and fewer glimpses of Minnie Driver. Add in the denial of the real Zuckerberg camp that this is an accurate re-telling of the story of Facebook and you get a Two Spurs Down.

Theaters: Blue Valentine 7.5/10...I thought it was a good movie, but it was missing something. It was really depressing and it actually sparked a little disagreement between me and my better half. I was blaming Michelle Williams (Cindy) character for the decay and she blamed Ryan Gosling (Dean). Though, it did kind of illustrate the best ending for what really goes on in relationships that don't last.

T.V. Blue-Ray: Wyatt Earp 6/10...not nearly as quotable as Tombstone (8/10), but more historically accurate and it was in the middle of Kevin Costner's quasi-dominance of movies (Field of Dreams, Dances, and the like...). It was also drawn out and really lacked the pow factor of a worthy Doc Holiday.

It's a very thinly veiled allegory. You have references to God (God smiles on true love), political handlers, the tension between greatness and love. All in all, not the worst themes of a movie, but something in the writing was off. The execution of the ideas played, especially in the first half of the movie, like a cheapcomic book movie. It wasn't until Thompson showed up that things about the Bureau started to make a little more sense. It happens too late in the film and it's simply a chase, get away from the aliens/bad guys movie up to that point. "Reasoning" with Matt Damon's character is a nice source of tension. But in the end, he is willing to throw away her career in order to have her and that is a fantastic "love conquers all" statement, but more of this, in an eglatarian society, should have been in the film. It wasn't a source of hand-wringing from Damon. It's the classic hero's journey from Athenian literature. I've yet to see a Hollywood script in the last five years, outside of cartoons, that has followed the archetype that closely. Personally, I found the movie satisfying at the end, but I had too many moments in this movie where I was bored. I'm lukewarm on this picture.

Don't spend 10 bucks to see it. Wait for Netflix.

Con Air

This quote from hotdamncharlotteann sums it up

Nic Cage in Con Air beats out Nick Nolte in The Prince of Tides. That is quite a feat. Con Air should have been an awesome action flick. Instead it was an accidental comedy due to frequent narration by Cage’s character, Cameron Poe, as he reads a letter to his daughter while he is en route home from being wrongly imprisoned. I was initially confused as to whether or not Poe had suffered brain damage as part of the story line. It was the only possible explanation of why every “a” was followed by an “h”, any middle vowel got sandwiched beeetweeeeen three mooore, any final or middle “r” was removed and the words were delivered soooo slooowly. Oh, mah haaaavens. The most memorable line was delivered to John Malkovich who messes with the stuffed animal Nic Cage plans to give his daughter, “Put dah bunneh baaawk in tha bawx”, he demands.

Here's a movie I wanted to like - I love good Western and Jeff Bridges is cool. But the Cohen bros have turned into pretentious gasbags IMO.

Have o disagree about True Grit, I thought it was damn good, and I love the original. Barry Pepper stole the show.

Piece of shit, I wanted everyone to die in it quickly. Shit movie

Legion
4/10
Decent action I guess, but basically just Terminator 2 with angels and shitty actors.

Finally got to see Sinners and Saints. Awesome cliche action movie.

Sinners and Saints 8/10
Priest 4/10.....Basically it's Legion but with shitty cgi vampires.

Apparently, using more of your brain doesn't apply to screenwriters.

Slow paced and so boring I fell asleep.

Blue Valentine 8/10

Pretty stark & realistic portrait of a typical relationship...and how two decent people can hurt each other and love each other at the same time. Two people can be headed in the opposite direction and only one of them can see it. Good movie...but some may see it as a downer.
The Gosling kid surprised me in this one. He was better than I remembered him in anything else.

Fair Game with Sean Penn & Naomi Watts... 8.8/10

Very, very good...and it just pisses you off a little more if, like me, you were not a Bush Admistration supporter...if you were/are...you probably won't like it...

aside from the politics (which is hard to separate) it was great acting, great writing,pace,etc...

good one.

On my days off I grab a couple of blue rays...watched the game last night then caught a couple of movies during the night...I work nights so it works out that on my days off I can do some late night watching, play guitar, have a cold one, write, etc...

I'll probably grab two more when I swing by blockbuster to trade these two...

Unless it bothers you....

Been there, done that...

when the band is gigging I play out two or three times a month...good times...

but I can have a good time reading a book, being online, watching films, rehearsing, catch a game--whatever...

nothing to prove by having to be a social attention-whore.

Somewhere ...

Directed by Sofia Coppola... 7.5/10

It was slow but that was intentional to give the viewer a realistic glimpse of a depressed individual...some may find it slow and boring...I actually liked it as there were some nice deja-vu moments and some touching scenes between the father & daughter...

the Channing actress will be huge in the future...kinda reminded me of how Natalie Portman showed such promise as a young teen...

Not for everyone...but if you liked--Lost in Translation...you will probably like this since Sofia Coppola uses a lot of the same techniques...

Kung Fu Panda 2 - 6.5/10. Not bad at all, but not as humorous as the first, which set the bar high.

Bridesmaids - 8/10. The vomit factor detracted from the movie, but it told a lot of truths about both men and women in a warm, funny way.

Midnight in Paris 8.8/10

Pretty great writing once you suspend your disbelief...

Never been a huge Woody Allen fan...but never hated him either...it seems that when he was ON...he could be pretty awesome. When he was OFF..it just seemed to make him overrated as he has always been a critic's darling.

This could be his best ever.

I felt like I was back in school with all the literary references...and characters...don't wanna spoil it...

If you are a fan of literature you will absolutely love it and be inspired as I was...If you are not...you may think the movie is just ok.

Owen Wilson was a perfect Woody Allen stand-in...because I always thought Woody Allen the ACTOR---was pretty fuckin' annoying and always subtracted from the movie experience.
Kathy Bates=great as always...

Marion Cotillard + Paris = Ideal Fantasy Woman...`nuff sed.

Lots of clever writing...Paris is featured extensively...

Nice change of pace flick...

Inspiring.
