last year, the following players were in the west:
amare
boozer
carmelo
d-will

- also, as a side note - the young portland team expected to dominate the nba in future rankings (a bunch of bs) is dealing with massive injuries

thus, without too much fanfare and bs, i ask you - fellow spurstalk dudes and dudettes - if you think this power switch gives the spurs two more years (assuming duncan plays and is relatively healthy) in the top 4 of the west along with okc, dal and lal.

Carmello vastly over-rated, Amare somewhat over-rated, Boozer a fine player and Williams is an upgrade big friggin deal.

Williams definitely makes the Nets stronger, a franchise player.
AJ better not get into arguments with him though because he is a coach killer.

The Spurs are still going to destroy whatever will be coming out of the East

Amare always battled the Spurs, even if he lost most of the wars. No way the Suns beat the Spurs last year w/out Amare. Nice to see him in NY.

.500 in East = 6th

.500 in West = 10th

Hasn't changed that much. The only difference is that now being .500 in the East doesn't get you HCA in the first round, and in the West it takes 47 wins to miss the playoffs instead of 50.

I have to say I personally don't care about being "in the top 4 in the west" unless that also implies being a title contender. Given the age of Duncan and Manu (and how well we're playing this year), I feel this is probably the last realistic chance for a 5th ring for Duncan.

To some extent being "top 4 in the west" implies being a contender.
It gives you a realistic chance to make it to the finals... and then who knows what can happen.
