A graduate of the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, Izbicki grew up near Camp Pendelton Marine Corps base in California, and followed a family tradition of military service. He said he realized his Quaker beliefs conflicted with his Navy service after his graduation and began submarine training.

Are you kidding me? This guy grows up a Quaker and doesn't think about the consequences of military enlistment vs. his puritan religion until after the fact? Fuck this dude, should have been a dishonorable given what an idiot he is. How do you lack that much foresight?

The guy's a loser. I think the military should charge him the cost of his schooling, at a minimum.

No way he couldn't know before he joined that it would be against Quaker beliefs.

As part of his honorable discharge, Izbicki will have to reimburse the Navy for his education at the Naval Academy.

The appearance of a principled stand does not compute for many.
