Texas group launches scholarship for white men ONLY... because they 'need an equal shot'

The Former Majority Association for Equality will give grants of $500 to any man from Texas who is at least ‘25 per cent Caucasian’, has good grades and can demonstrate they are in need.

Its founder Colby Bohannan claims whites feel ‘excluded’ when they apply to college and that they are ‘left out’ when it comes to funding. The provocative move risks a backlash by anti-racism groups but college officials in Texas have said there is little they can do to prevent it. Mr Bohannan, a former Texas State University student and Iraq veteran, said the group was named because of the idea that ‘if you're not a male, and if you're not white, you're called a minority’. ‘I'm not sure white males are the majority any more,’ he said. ‘If everyone else can find scholarships, why are we left out?’ He added that the group is not taking a stance on affirmative action and has denounced racism. ‘It's time in our society to look at the way our culture views race,’ he said. ‘It's time to give everyone an equal shot.’ FMAFE plans to offer four $500 scholarships to any college, inside Texas or outside the state, for the forthcoming academic year.
So far it has raised more than $1,600.

It is not clear how the percentage of ‘whiteness’ will be evaluated but the group’s officers say they will consider each applicant carefully. On its website FMAFE claims its goal is: ‘To financially assist young Americans seeking higher education who lack opportunities in similar organisations that are based upon race or gender. ‘In a country that proclaims equality for all, we provide monetary aid to those that have found the scholarship application process difficult because they do not fit into certain categories or any ethnic group,’ it says. It adds that they do ‘not want to appear racist or racially motivated’ and that they will not accept any donations from hate groups. Mr Bohannan said: 'The toughest obstacles to getting this organisation off the ground seem to be not appearing racially motivated, and getting taken seriously.

'The board members of FMAFE are not trying to put anyone down or make any race or cultures seem inferior.' Despite the apparently wild claims Bohannan may actually be correct - Hispanics accounted for two-thirds of the population growth over the past decade in Texas. Non-Hispanic whites now make up about 45 per cent of residents. The scholarship has already touched off a heated debate in Texas and on the Texas State University student newspaper opinion was divided. About-time wrote: ‘This is awesome! Its about time people realize that white people deserve help too. Its not just minorities who struggle’. William Lake, FMAFE’s treasurer, said: ‘There's a scholarship out there for just about any demographic, except this one.

‘We realise it's for good reason - this is a touchy subject.’

25% white is too little in my opinion, that means a child with 2 black parents but a white grandparent can get it (technically). I'm sure they request pictures with applications and will throw away the black apps, but they can still apply.

I think that's the point of the scholarship. make people talk about how everyone but whites get special subsidies. It's laughable that people get enrages when the requirement is 1/4 white. There are a few, but you have to be a large percentage of the ethnicity to qualify. Most of the white people that I know are mutts, and therefore would not qualify. Personally I am German, Irish, Scottish, French, Polish, Cherokee, and Chocktaw. I qualified for none of them when I looked after high school because I was too diluted. :lol

My child is a polish/mexican mix.... does he qualify?


On a serious note my son recently asked me what color he was? I told him that if we had to make a choice he would be white but his last name makes him a mexican american.. he then went on the explain to me that he is brown in the summer ,because of his tan, and white the rest of the year.. I couldn't neccessarily disagree with him. I aksed him to not worry about his or anyone else's color... we spoke of the great Martin Luther King and his vision for America... He told me he liked Dr. King and he also like President Obama..

I was remarking that your intial comments were funny because of how inaccurate they were.

Whites are not a minority in Texas. In San Antonio it is more difficult to tell because of the overlap between Hispanic and white in the census data.

As for how well White people are doing in San Antonio, look at the these figures:

Pay special attention to the areas that are mostly white and mostly hispanic. Now, once you're done looking at that information take a look at the unemployment, education level, and income maps.

As for you scholarships, there are countless scholarships that are public and are not defined by race. If you don't qualify for those, that is on you and is not on anyone else. There is government aid as well and if you don't qualify for that then you either make too much money or have done something to mess up your qualifications.

There is no affirmative action to be had for anyone so you're just like everyone else in that matter.

Sucks that you've had to endure slurs, but almost everyone I know has had to endure slurs at some point. That is pretty much every race out there. That doesn't make your comments anymore accurate.

I was a bit vague and misleading, I apologize. Texas is what's called a "minority majority", since no race accounts for over 50% of the population.

White people are a minority in San Antonio, which is 61.2% hispanic.

When I say "most" of the disadvantages, I mean to say that people who are casually racist tend to treat their own race more favorably than others. This invariably leads to the minority getting treated like shit more often due to racism on an average basis. This happens in any place, anywhere.

The difference is that since I am white, I am not allowed to argue or complain about anything that I see as being unfair. I am not allowed to pull the race card. All the government programs which are designed to help minorities only account for minorities as measured in the entire country, not in the region I am from, so really they are set up to help the majority of San Antonio, and not me as a minority.

Everyone has to endure slurs at some point, but there's a difference being white. If someone said my skin was pale during any of my years in school, nothing would happen to them. I guarantee if I made any kind of comment about a darker person's skin color I would be punished.

I'm just pointing out a double-standard is all.

Well, you're pointing out the double standard that you're not allowed to complain about the situation by complaining about the situation so I'm not going to agree that you're not allowed to complain.

There really aren't that many government programs geared to minorities. In the end we all are eligible for nearly the same assistance from the federal government regardless of ethnicity with exception to various programs here and there.

Trust me, the race card isn't nearly all its cracked up to be either.
