Of course the best Roland would be a younger Clint Eastwood, but this is pretty bad ass casting too.

Javier Bardem in Negotiations for The Dark Tower

Ron Howard has ambitious plans for his adaptation of Stephen King's seven-book series The Dark Tower, and he's just as ambitious when it comes to casting it: His producing partner Brian Grazer confirmed to MTV that Javier Bardem is in negotiations to play the lead role of gunslinger Roland Deschain. "We're in the process of trying to put that together," Grazer said. "He's locked in psychologically. He really wants to do it, so we're absolutely rooting for him to do it." Still there are some potential stumbling blocks to this signing: The Dark Tower franchise will demand his sizable commitment to three tentpole movies and two television series, and Bardem -- a new father -- has famously flirted with starring in big-budget movies like Nine and Minority Report before backing out at the last minute.

Yeah - the last books weren't TERRIBLE but you can tell the accident in Maine totally fucked him and it ended up taking away from the books. Waste Lands was epic and Wizard and Glass was damn good too. Like I said the others were OK but didn't live up to what the series should have been at the end.

What do you mean I've read over half his stuff, some of it more than once. I just never been a voracious reader but will definitely read all his works at least once eventually.

I don't read much, but I have always wanted to give this series a shot. I'm going to hit up the audio books before the movies come out.

I looked up a picture of Javier Bardem and thought it was also this guy:
