Source: BYU’s Davies “remorseful, heartbroken”

Provo • A source with close connections to the program has confirmed that BYU star Brandon Davies was dismissed from the Cougars’ nationally ranked basketball team after he admitted to having sexual relations with his girlfriend, a violation of the school’s honor code.
Davies, a sophomore from Provo High, acknowledged his transgression to BYU officials on Monday.
Tuesday, the school owned and operated by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced Davies had been dismissed from the team but was being allowed to remain in school while his situation was under review by the Honor Code Office.
BYU spokeswoman Carri Jenkins said Davies’ suspension from the team was for the remainder of the season and that his future at the school has yet to be determined.
A source told The Tribune that Davies is “extremely remorseful, heartbroken” but has accepted the punishment doled out by the school.
Wednesday afternoon, the school confirmed that Davies’ dismissal was not due to something that is criminal in nature, but would not acknowledge the specific portion of the honor code that he violated, per school policy.
Among other things, the honor code forbids students from engaging in premarital sex, and admonishes them to “live a chaste and virtuous life.”
Davies was averaging 11.1 points, third-most on the team, and a team-leading 6.2 rebounds per game for the 27-2 Cougars, ranked No. 3 in both major college basketball polls.
Searches of various police department and court records Wednesday morning by The Tribune did not reveal any brushes with the law for the 19-year-old Davies, who started in 26 of 27-2 BYU’s 29 games this season.
Jenkins said Tuesday that the school became aware of Davies’ honor code violation on Monday, the same day the Cougars moved up to No. 3 in both polls.

Don't get me wrong, I hate BYU and understand your sentiment about mormons/Utah... But hypocritical? There's plenty of hypocrisy in Utah, sure, but in this case, isn't the school standing by its honor code in detriment to their own athletic interests the opposite of hypocrisy?
I mean, it's a dumbass rule, but they're displaying the integrity that goes along with enforcing it, no? It would be hypocritical if they let him get away with something they wouldn't let another student get away with.

Actually its a different sect that allows polygamy if I'm right. I think mainstream Mormonism isn't in to that stuff. I could be wrong. I was wrong before like when I said the Suns would be fine without Amare.

You're not, they're not (for the time being). But DoK's right (to a degree): there are whole towns full of polygamists fucking the life out of 14 year olds here. And nobody in law enforcement really does shit about it other than a token arrest every so often. TX and a few other states ain't exactly got clean hands either though.

Technically it's a different sect. The only reason mainstream Mormons don't practice polygamy is because the government told them that if they wanted to be a part of society they need to quit being such primitive Neanderthals. If the government didn't tell them to change, they'd undoubtedly still be practicing polygamists, and I have not heard them at all ever separate themselves from Warren Jeffs Mormonism.

Arizona had them too. It sickens me how long we knowingly let the kinda stuff that happened there go on (teenage boys would sometimes get castrated because the older men didn't want competition). One day two women in that city escaped, went to the press about all the shit that went on, which forced the state to bully some niggas.

It's not. I've lived in SLC for 2+ decades and I've not seen more than a handful of polygamists with my own eyes. Maybe a dozen sightings in my life. Small towns. But still, one settlement straddling the Utah/AZ border (Colorado City) is a place where 4,000 people are all inbred polys. They keep to themselves, live in weirdo compounds out in the desert. Like DoK said, sometimes the state is forced to pony up for a token raid.

Whoah, as soon as a boy or girl reaches puberty, all they want to do is fuck. The Mormon method is to send their young on two year missions for the church after high school, to make them more lonely and horny and introduce them to other former missionaries on their return so they quickly marry and make lots of little Mormons.
So, are we supposed to believe every sports athelete who ever played for BYU remained a virgin until marriage? Umm...I don't think so, or that Mormon cult has some pretty strong power. Maybe that's why they have breakaway Mormons who collect lots of wives. Too much abstinence means you really need to sow them wild oats.

A quote from Brigham Young himself addressing interracial couples:
Shall I tell you the law of God in regard to the AFRICAN RACE? If the WHITE man who belongs to the chosen seed mixes his blood with the seed of Cain, the PENALTY, under the LAW OF GOD, IS DEATH ON THE SPOT. THIS WILL ALWAYS BE SO. It's no surprise Brigham Young's school would take issue with a black man porking a good little mormon girl. The girl is lucky she wasn't executed.
More quotes from Brigham Young:
Cain slew his brother....and the Lord put a mark upon him, which is the FLAT NOSE AND BLACK SKIN
Ham will continue to be servant of servants, as the Lord decreed, until the curse is removed. WILL THE PRESENT STRUGGLE FREE THE SLAVE? NO; but they are now wasting away the black race by thousands.... “Treat the slaves kindly and let them live, for HAM MUST BE THE SERVANT OF SERVANTS UNTIL THE CURSE IS REMOVED. Can you destroy the decrees of the Almighty? YOU CANNOT. Yet our Christian brethren think that they are going to overthrow the sentence of the Almighty upon the seed of Ham. THEY CANNOT DO THAT, though they may kill them by thousands and tens of thousands.

Contrary to the "accepted" opinion that all young people want to do is have sex, there are still quite a few people who value virginity and remain virgins until married. It's not impossible - it just takes discipline and morals, which far too many people are lacking now days.
This young man knew the honor code when he chose to attend BYU - so he only has himself to blame for being suspended from the team.

If there were 300 other major leagues that Jackie Robinson could have played in, and he chose to play in the most racist, intolerant of them, yeah, he would have been stupid to make that choice.
BYU doesn't hold a monopoly on Division I basketball. If they did it would be a different situation altogether.

They brought him in viewing him as a slave for their basketball program. Once their "slave" acted up and started contaminating a white woman like Bringham Young feared, they acted quickly to stop it.

You're an idiot. Seriously? Your hatred for Mormons seems pretty over the top. Did you try to date one and she wouldn't let you nail her? Besides Brigham Young lived in the 1800's. You are quoting it like he said it yesterday.
The kid knew BYU's policy, anyone that goes has to sign the honor code every year and promise to adhere to it. It wasn't a surprise to him. That and he is from Provo (where BYU is located at) and you expected him NOT to know what he was signing up for?
There really isn't anything wrong with being religious and letting religions do what they do. If you want to go to a religious school, then follow the rules. It may not be for everyone (including me) but they are the rules you agreed to.
And you need to get your facts straight. Polygamy was banned before Utah was annexed into the US as it was illegal in the US at the time and if the Mormons wanted to become part of the Union they had to adhere to the law. Therefore the ban.
The people that do it today are excommunicated from the Mormon church and are ostracized. Its splinter groups (like the Westboro crazies) not mainstream.
You don't hear much from the Mormons when it gets on the air because all it brings it bad publicity. But I am willing to bet more boys were molested by Catholic Priests than there are polygamist people claiming to be Mormons.

haha...nice try.
the record demonstrates that you are in fact obsessed with me. last i checked you are the guy who created an alternate username on spurstalk to imitate me in numerous threads (or more acurately, you were imitating the ticket's "indie rock/indie film guy" but just without giving credit).
...so keep lying to yourself about how you 'just barely bother to even respond to me' or whatever if you want to i guess. any spurstalker with a memory won't buy your faggy posturing.

okay seriously, how old are you? this is not a rhetorical question. you perpetually are busy providing evidence that you are one of the less mature kids in your 10th grade class.
" i've never seen anyone get so pissy over people ripping on him"
really? i have. one time i humiliated this guy called mono-something and he got so upset he created a fake profile and sign-on name imitating and mimicing mine so that he could 'get even.' sound familiar?
good look on all of your future endeavors, such as the test you'll be taking to get your driver's license when you turn 16 and your P-SAT's.

Not sure how BYU is the "bad guy" in all this. They have rules and people have choices, including athletes. Obviously Davies chose to go to the school and subject himself to those rules. I don't hear him whinning about the honor code or the BYU's allegedly discriminatory behavior. I guess he'll leave that to the infinitely more informed folks here.
I think BYU made a stand on its principles. A stand that most other schools wouldn't have the courage to take. I respect that. And those that don't respect it, well, I guess there a lot like those other schools.
Thought Pat Forde said it best.

When BY said it doesn't make it anymore right. That kind of deep, passionate hatred doesn't go away with time. The fact BYU hasn't changed its name yet is despicable and proves how racist Mormons are. And no I'm not dumb enough to try and date a Mormon, I just have first hand knowledge of how backwards and nutty these people are.
The kid knew BYU's policy, anyone that goes has to sign the honor code every year and promise to adhere to it. It wasn't a surprise to him. That and he is from Provo (where BYU is located at) and you expected him NOT to know what he was signing up for?
I'm willing to bet the kid had several white teammates plowing their girlfriend and thought it would be OK for him to do. I doubt he knew Bringham Young was such a cold, racist human being.
There really isn't anything wrong with being religious and letting religions do what they do. If you want to go to a religious school, then follow the rules. It may not be for everyone (including me) but they are the rules you agreed to.
Agreed. The kid should have done his homework about Bringham Young's radical racism before going to his school.
And you need to get your facts straight. Polygamy was banned before Utah was annexed into the US as it was illegal in the US at the time and if the Mormons wanted to become part of the Union they had to adhere to the law. Therefore the ban.
That's what I'm saying. Mormons wanted to be Polygamists and force marriages, the only reason they don't is because of laws against it. What kind of immoral human beings need laws to tell them forcing multiple 13 year olds to marry a 50 year old is wrong?
The people that do it today are excommunicated from the Mormon church and are ostracized. Its splinter groups (like the Westboro crazies) not mainstream.
The people that do it today are true Mormons basing their belief system off of none other than the prophet Joseph Smith himself.

Catholics are no better than Mormons for letting that go on. You won't hear me singing praises about Catholics.

Obviously you know BYU better than me, so I won't waste our time arguing about their beliefs. I respect them for making rules that hold their student body to a high standard and then enforce those rules, even when it would be more advantageous to them for not keeping them.
That's pretty clear logic, I think. Though I'm pretty weakminded.

You have first hand knowledge? I was raised Mormon. I think mine might be a little more first hand then yours. Calling them backward because they live according to a prescribed set of principles is pretty audacious and condescending at the least.

Yes and so were the slave owners back in the day, didn't stop them from being President of the US and heroes of our Country. You can't judge a person 200 years ago on today's standards. Back then they were taught black people weren't even people. So it's not surprising in any way that he would have adhered to the mainstream belief of the times.

Name me a Mormon today, that you know, that WANTS to be a polygamist and I will accept it. Name me ONE mainstream Mormon that even thinks its a good idea. There is a history behind polygamy that you obviously don't know or are so blinded by hate as to not recognize it.

This proves how racist they are.
All the ways you could presumably prove how racist the LDS and BYU is, and this is what you choose?
It's like saying Alex Mack not making the Pro Bowl over Maurice Pouncey (or Marquise, whatever his name is) is proof that Cleveland is a shitty sports town. You could cite better examples.

Nah. It's backwards. Mormonism is clearly a fantasy and people live sometimes awful, repressed lives because of it; it's no coincidence that Utah consumes more anti-depressants, opiates and pornography than any other American state. Just because there are principles involved doesn't mean it can't be described as archaic and weird. Jihadists live by principles too, that doesn't preclude their being totally fucked.

Considering the whole "one mighty and strong" prophesy that's a fundamental part of MAINSTREAM mormon doctrine. Y'know, the supposed emergence of a person/deity prophesied to appear and 'set in order' the original conception of mormonism, I would say that plenty of mormons look forward to the return of polygamy. Whether they know it or not, mainstream mormonism is the splinter group, the FLDS are true to Joseph Smith and mainstream mormonism to this day predicts a reunion between the two.

off topic, what do you make of the Patriots O-Line situation?
I think that line has been overrated for way too long now, and a blowup was kinda needed. Then again, the guys replacing Kaczur and Neal and maybe Light & Mankins might end up sucking worse.

I'm for freedom of marriage. If you want to marry your dog go ahead I don't care. Washer machines and cars as well. Go hog wild. If 3 people want to get married I am all for it. Forced marriage is bad, because it takes away choice, not because its a plural marriage.

They NEED to resign Mankins. The line as you said has been overrated as hell for awhile and has been flat out terrible in their last 3 playoff games. Changes are inevitable at LT, C, and RG, they can't compound the problem more by not resigning Mankins to a longterm deal to anchor the line.
IMO, they should move Kaczur to RG or waive him, but he's too slow to play tackle now with all the speedy edge rushers in the NFL. Draft a new center and a new left tackle.
