Cause if you do I need some recommendations for what wine goes good with steak. I heard here and there certain wines go good with steak. Cooking dinner as a surprise for my dad who is a huge steak man(me not so much) So I like to think i can cook one. Open grill ribeye or sirloin i'm thinking are most popular but not set on it.

What I really need help on is the wine. I don't drink wine and he does and I dont want to seem like some one who clueless about good wine :lol

So anyone know a good wine? Oh and i'm not looking to break my bank account on a bottle of wine. So a degree of price ranges would be lovely. Also one I don't have to hunt to far to get.. local Heb or liquor store please :)

trolling to a minimum k

Why don't you ask your mom what kind of wine your dad likes with steak? Apologies in advance of that's not an option.

Generally speaking a red wine like a merlot, syrah, or cabernet sauvignon goes well with steak, but since I'm not a red wine type, can't make any brand recommendations.

I don't drink a lot of wine, but when I do, Little Penguin Merlot/Cabernet, merlot is sweeter. Or Da Vinci Chianti.

if you don't want caymus, try cakebread cellars.

Go talk to a sommelier at central market or a wine store and they'll give you good recomandations for your price.

I second the wine store recommendation or World Market. A Cabernet Sauvignon would probably work well.

I drink bloody Marys. I like FishEye red wine. It has a dry plum taste to it.

Ditto on the store recommendation. If you don't feel like talking to anyone at the store, a South American malbec would be good. Argentina makes great ones, you get great bang for your buck, and they pair really well with steak. The Argentinians eat a lot of beef; they know what they're doing.

Good call Jekka...I'm really into the Malbecs recently...I bought a few cases of 2006 Telteca Anta Reserve that were absolutely spectacular for the price. Like mid $13 and I've had reds 5 times that price that couldn't match up in a taste test.

Any high quality meal should be served with an appropriate wine.

This time next year I should have some cosmiccowboy wine ready to sample. I've got about 60 vines that should be bearing this year. It will probably suck but I'm looking forward to trying.

I like most red wines in general. Now that I think about it...there are few wines I've tried and haven't enjoyed. (excluding cheap ass Franzia bagged wine, and the like)

Whoever said Cakebread or Caymus nailed it. Malbecs from South America are fantastic as well, especially for the price.

Texas actually has some great wines but you can't find any of them in stores so stay away from Texas wine, Especially Llano. I don't know how people drink that trash.

It really depends on you though. I have a friend who only drink sauvignon blanc with steak and there is nothing wrong with that. I prefer Johnny Black on the rocks with mine.

Fuller bodied red wines with tannic structure and firm fruit.

Cabernet sauvignon and malbec are spot on recommendations. Big zins, big Italian sangioveses and meritage (Bdx) blends also work. Petite sirahs are under-appreciated in general and pair well with steak IMO.

There are some white wines that will stand up to grilled meat. You might try an aggressively oaked Meursault with a steak sometime. Or Champagne. Dee-licious.

This is very true. Guenoc makes a great petite sirah.

I down 3 or 4 bottles a week. Usually on weekends. For a steak I'd recommend Casillero del Diablo Carmenere. thats my weapon of choice for red meat.

for seafood or if you want white wine, I go with New Zealand wine usually Nobles. Drink it ice cold. Sauvinon Blanc is the way to go IMO.

for getting buzzed I down a bottle of cheap barefoot. Any kind is good. Good cheap stuff

I'm not a wine connoisseur/expert by any means, but I can't imagine life without it. All good suggestions here, just dive in and experiment. I'm guessing there's all kinds of websites about wine/food affinities out there. It's not a serious thing though, it's more about your preferences.
Chianti can be good with beef. I enjoy Pinot Noir as well. Beaujolais. The idea is that you're supposed to have heartier, full-bodied wines with steak, but personally I find that not always to be not always what I enjoy or what I'm in the mood for.

You are the expert on what you like best. Nobody else can tell you what the wine tastes like to you, or what pairs best with what.

There's no rules in wine drinking. None whatsoever. Go wild.
