:( Wish I saw some fire from Duncan at any point in the first half.
(On what’s important with the Lakers coming on Sunday) “Sustain. This one means a lot less if we go out here and tank the next one, so we’ll be prepared, we’ll be focused. These are great games for us, great games to come in here and get everyone on the same page, get everyone in a playoff atmosphere and start getting some of that experience in our pockets.”

A couple of people have said it and they are right - there is some element of perfect storm to this too. We've been horrible at both ends, but they have also been red-hot with the jumper, and the bounce of the ball has gone their way (layups rimming out for us, long rebounds falling into their hands). No excuses, but this isn't quite as bad as it looks.

For all the grief Bonner is getting no one is saying shit about the complete egg Duncan has laid.
Spurs can easily win with Bonner playing badly but they're not going to win many where Duncan does absolutely nothing.
Do you actually know anything about Tim Duncan?
Blame Pop if you want to get on Tim.
Tim is a rhythm player and he needs touches to get into Rhythm and get going. Pop has completely changed the way the Spurs play on offense and doesn't involve Tim much. If you want more consistent performances from Tim you need to get him the ball consistently so he can get into rhythm.

Well, this is the wakeup call I really hoped we wouldn't get tonight, but the trend is undeniable.
We'd better hope we don't meet these guys in the playoffs until we're red-hot and rolling.
I thought that was exactly our status heading into today's game. We probably did need this wakeup call. The energy just isn't there as it was when we beat the lakers earlier this season. We need to show some fight in the second half or 3rd quarter. Pop will be sitting the starters in the 4th

You can keep defending Bonner....we all love him when he's on fire but he's purely one dimensional. Dice is a better rebounder and defender. It's just that simple. I don't give a fuck that he has had some bad possessions. You can't stay on Bonner's nutsack 24/7. Give it up already
I only defend him this much because its ridiculous how much grief the guy gets. No shit he's only one dimensional. I don't think I ever said he was in there to dominate the boards or be a shut down defender but his one dimension is really important.
Bonner is NEVER the reason we lose but 90% of the Spurs fan bitching is about him. Its retarded.

They beat LA last year in LA.
Mason's game winning 3
The early start game excuse is bullshit. Spurs just got too confident for their own good and Lakers are trying to prove that they are still as good as everyone doubts them now.
That's it and that's ALL it is, yeah we're laying an egg but everyone get too down whenever we lose, guess what l.a. is the defending champs their pretty good. We came all fat and overconfident and can't buy a bucket. Who knows what will happen if we meet in the playoffs. But as of today we lead them 2-1 and have a large lead on them record-wise so let's relax with all the doom and gloom. It was the end of the world when we lost to the clippers I think we've been alright since then.:flag:

Gonna be interesting to see how Pop treats the second half.
It's also important to remember that these teams have a history of either blowing each other out or playing thrillers. We killed them in the first game of the year, then a thriller, now they kill us in revenge. It evens the decade series at 39-39.
We have some problems against this Faker team, but they have put their absolute best out there and we've been close to our worst. The season isn't over.

This will knock the chip off of the Spurs shoulder that they were denying ever having...
This will help the spurs be humble and motivated enough to keep the #1 seed...
and...
they will know that the #1 seed won't mean that much if they get a little arrogant...
I would still like to see some fight in the 2nd half...at least let the lakers know that it will take the full 48 minutes...
don't let them off easy...make kobe play more minutes...show some fight and don't hang your heads...

Fair call. What I meant was in the playoffs teams reach another level once they win a series or two - we've all seen it during our trophy runs.
I'm still confident our team hasn't peaked yet. Pop tries to have them peaking around the semis/WCF so they can ride the wave through the Finals, and if we do that again this year we won't look like this.

Guys, of course LA isn't this good & SA isn't this bad. But that isn't the point. It is foolish to base everything off of one game. My comments are based on everything from the entire year and past two as well.
All you need to look at is the things each team does well and what is more sustainable in the playoffs. Length, rebounding, defense & post play are more reliable. Spurs have a chance, but no margin for error.

worst half of basketball all year by the Spurs, including that great Hornets comeback early in the year. I've been a "glass half full" fan when it comes to Tim so far this year. Thinking that when the playoffs come along he will up his game and go back to averaging 18/10 or better... However as his play has continued to be inconsistent/mediocre my faith is failing. In 2 1/2 games against the lakers he has a total of 12 points and 15 rebounds... If Tim can't regain his championship form we have no chance at that 5th championship.

Over the past years (Championship years as well) I always thought the Spurs would get a little too high/cocky on some wins, only to get completely spanked the next game, which I thought was good for them. I'm sure every player/team can get a big head after a win like the Spurs had on Friday, yes, even the most humble of players. Sometimes a good ass-kicking like this is good for a team like the Spurs, just to remind them that hey, you have to bring your fucking A-game to beat the 2-time defending NBA champions...

I don't think anyone's forgotten that, but we simply don't have the players, and haven't had the assets or pulling-power to get the players, to run that system any more. We don't have a Bynum-type, nor a Bowen-type, so what are we meant to do? Pop had to change up the style of the team to suit the players he has.

Like Tim said after the Heat game. One game, one night. Spurs got blitzed. If the Lakers were able to play like this consistently, I'd be worried about facing them.
This type of game from the Lakers has been the exception, not the norm this year. We're still up 2-1 in the season series. Props to the Lakers, they came out determined to close this thing early.
Tim is a non-factor against the Lakers height. Thank God we changed the offense this year to not run through Tim. Unless we scramble on D, we'll be killed. At least this was exposed in the regular season and not in the playoffs.

That I can agree with....that goes for any other player for that matter. Fuck all trade tp/manu threads. The big 3 obviously have a bigger impact on the potential outcome but what I care about is effort. We win and lose as a team. Once we started missing, it as an avalanche as Van Gundy stated. Agree. We beat the Lakers twice this season. They're playing great today but it's not like we have no chance against them in the Playoffs. If it happens it'll be a damn tough series.
Today the energy level is not good but it also one of those days. We missed 4 or 5 easy layups and a lot of opens shots. Lakers made a lot of long and contested shots.

I will point out again that we've all been here before. Every year we blow them out in a game (like we did in the first game this season), and they destroy us at some stage too. This is the MO of a Spurs-Fakers series.
Still, Bynum is a worry. I think our flexibility can counter everything else they have, but unless Splitter (or someone else) can contain Bynum, we're in trouble.

1. Gasol hits a 3

4. and now 3 times a loose ball gets past the hands of the Spurs, that could have = pts or another possession.

This is proof they need to take their play to a higher level, and now they have undeniable evidence to motivate them. This is what Pop needed to motivate them to lift.
Bynum is an issue and as yet we have no answer for him. But he didn't win them the first two games. He's not Superman. We have about 2 months to figure out how to take him out of the game. As you know, the playoffs is all about adjustments. The season is not over.

We will see the advantages of these minutes that Splitter and Anderson playing now. Especially Splitter has to figure out Gasol's play. We need him to play good against Lakers towers.

Usually u throw away the game tape after a game like this, but the Spurs really need to watch it because they got DOMINATED. They're going to have to actually watch it.

Very interesting why does phil want to rub it in so much? Is he concerned?
Nope, it's Phil's regular rotation since like forever. He likes leaving one or two starters to make sure the bench players won't totally fuck up and break the momentum. He isn't rubbing it in, it's for continuity.

This game is exactly why it was so important for Splitter to have a good training camp and a good start to the season and earn Pop's trust. And instead, he fucked it up and got hurt. And now, Splitter is a non-factor. I think in order for the Spurs to beat the Lakers in a 7-game series, you have to fucking play Splitter....and I just dont know if Pop will now....

Splitter might be a better option against the Lakers, but...

Pop has to make a stand and decide if he wants to play this pussy 3 point ball with Bonner or fucking wake up and get Splitter in the rotation.

Don't strawman me. My comment related to focus down the stretch run. You don't think this is a wake-up call that Pop will hammer into his team down the stretch? This is proof they need to take their play to a higher level, and now they have undeniable proof of it. This is what he needed to motivate them to lift.
Bynum is an issue and as yet we have no answer for him. But he didn't win them the first two games. He's not Superman. We have about 2 months to figure out how to take him out of the game. As you know, the playoffs is all about adjustments. The season is not over.
Don't strawman me. Who said it's over? If at this point in the year they need a wake up call, they are in trouble. This time of year is for peaking, not getting crominated and looking for silver linings.
Pop is not happy. No matter how you slice it.

Tiago shows he can body up with Gasol or Bynum ... he should be on the floor with Duncan against the Lakers

JVG is right. Novak would win the 3pt contest.
And the Spitter run is great. He was very good in one of the earlier games. I'm sure he'll play plenty against the fakers in the playoffs.
WTF is Jax doing? The game is over!
