I've seen a lot of discussion lately about that impending WCSF matchup and I just wondered who you guys thought would be a better matchup for the silver and black.

lakers, cause that would mean the mavs lost and yet another epic fail for their sorry ass team.

Lakers, because that's the way it should be.
To be the champs, you have to play and beat the champs.

First, I would worry about avoiding Memphis.
Second, I would worry about OKC.

Last time I checked, the 07 WCF were a piece of cake with Utah.

Lakers, easily. We play better against them (disregarding the blowout loss) and we don't really like them.

I want to see the Mavs eliminate the Fakers, and then have SAS-DAL duke it out.

I'd rather focus on the first round opponent, whoever that will be.

Either way.

If we beat the Lakers, we'll get the enjoyment of hearing all their sorry excuses.

If we beat the Mavs, we'll be that much closer to watching Cuban explode into a heap of skin, bones, and bad hair.

I can't choose. I just hope we get the 1st seed and only have to play one of them. Epic battle either way.

Lakers for sure. We have no one to guard Dirk. Kobe will go into chuck mode and we should win in 6.

Lakers. If you want to truly be called the best, you have to go through those who everyone thinks is the best. It would ruin ESPN's day.

Dice stopped Dirk very effectively in last season's playoffs.

I don't care - get us to the WCFs injury free and it'll be a 6/7-gamer either way.

If the Spurs are counting on other teams to do their dirty work, they are going to lose anyway. It should not matter who it is, they should be ready and focused for anybody.

Golden State did it for us 4 years ago.

The Lakers are not a good matchup for us, whoever thinks so is delusional.

I would vote neither 'cause both teams are capable of beating spurs in aseries-not sure te other way aound

I know I'm probably in the mmonority but spurs are a stable yet paperweight #1 seed and yesterday's debacle doesn't give me much hope that they make it 2 wcf or even win the wc.

I hope they prove me wrong...still hoping 4 spurs-celtics finals w/spurs taking it in 7 exciting games!

Crofl Dice stopping Dirk.

Dirk dropped 26.7 ppg,8.2 rpg,3 apg on 54.7% shooting and 51.7% from 3

As a Mav fan I would rather see LA tbh. Just seems like a better matchup because we have the length to somewhat contain LA's frontline and our PG weakeness won't be exposed with Fisher like it would be with Parker.

We all saw what the SA guards did last year imo

For the sake of pure basketball, I agree with Baseline. To answer the question: Mavs

ezau
03-08-2011, 01:43 AM
TBH, I don't know the answer because both teams are very tough. The only thing going for the Spurs right now is that both the Mavs and Lakers are on a collision course in the WCSF.

Don't like our chances against the Lakers. At all.

Given the fact we've beaten them only once in the last 10 years, and that they're b2b champs, going for the 3-peat in PJ's last year, beating them this year would be tremendously satisfying. But it ain't gonna happen.

Mavs please. In the end, all that matters is the title. Not who you have to go through to get there.

The Spurs have no chance, and I've known it all along. See? I've been posting up to tell everyone and they wouldn't listen. It's just a coincidence that I didn't start really whining about it until after the one game the Lakers won.

Obviously dallas, because they are mentally weaker.

The same way i think other teams will prefer any rival other than the Spurs or Lakers.

Right now there is only one team with similar championship experience than the Spurs in the whole NBA and thatīs Lakers. With everyone else we have that advantage.

Fans seem to remember the latest loss rather than the entire season. If you look at our first two games with LA then it's very easy to say LA. I cant see LA playing as well as they did last Sunday by the time they hit the WCF. That being said Dallas poses its own problems.
I will say this: LA is catching up to Dallas for 2nd seed, and if they do get it, I cant see Dallas winning without HCA.

Mavs would be the slightly more entertaining series, imo, but I'd like to see a Spurs/Lakers series as well.

It's like asking which movie I'd rather be stuck on a deserted island with.....Star Wars Ep IV or Ep V.

Tough call.

The Mavs would probably be an easier series. They've been dealing with more injury problems to key players throughout the season (Roddy, Butler, Chandler, Dirk) so their health, chemistry, and execution will probably suffer in the playoffs. The Mavs also have much worse perimeter defenders than the Lakers which helps the Spurs since guys like Parker, Ginobili, Hill, etc. will be able to get quality looks all series. I also expect Duncan to be able to handle the Mavs frontcourt easier than the more talented and bigger trees in Bynum and Gasol.

However the Mavs do have one potentially key intangible going for them and thats wanting revenge for the last playoffs. They'll at least make the Spurs pay for any wins with some hard fouls and enforcing like Najera versus Ginobili and Parker last year. Then again the Lakers would probably be the same way especially since this is Phil's last hurrah. At least the Spurs are on track of not playing both the Mavs and the Lakers....playing against one of them is enough of a heavy toll.

Mavs, even though I don't believe an LA/Spurs series would be as bad as Sunday's game. Eluding to what someone said in another post, the Spurs could go to Duncan in the post more when Bynum is in the game to try and get him into foul trouble. The same, we don't want Duncan on Gasol, or Duncan will be in foul trouble.

I just want the Spurs to be 100% focused. If they come out with that energy they had against the Lakers last game in the playoffs, they will not win.

A focused Spurs team has the ability to beat either team. It doesn't matter to me personally. Either would be a great matchup assuming we make it that far or vice versa.
