If the Mavs and Spurs meet up this post-season and the Spurs win, you have to beat, or at least attempt to beat, the NES game Amagon (the game we suggested you try in the Geek Zone). No cheats are allowed.

Deal?

Feel free to come up with the stakes for me.

BUMP, you can take this bet, as well.

I've never heard of that game, tbh

If the Mavs win you gotta try and beat SMB3 without using whistles

Of course, the loser has to get some kind of recording software and record the entire playthrough and upload it YouTube.

:lol Damn, shouldn't be that hard for you then.

I could beat it in like 3 hours on the SNES but I can't beat it in on the computer because the keyboard is a lot harder to use. I got to some fortress in world 7 where the jumps were ridiculously hard to do so i stopped

I grew up in that era, saw "The Wizard" in the theaters where all us jackass kids drooled over Super Mario Bros. 3, but I never actually played the game beyond the initial stages.

It's been on my to play list for about 10 years now :lol

Since I didn't have an SNES or an N64 growing up (Genesis and PSX all day errday), Project 64 was the only way I was able to play SSB, Mario Party, and Goldeneye. Those were the days.

tbh, I assumed you'd have to try on the computer so I had to pick something reasonable but challenging.

SMB1 on the computer is pretty much impossible because you start off with 3 lives and if you get a game over you have to start from the beginning again. Fucking retarded

this game was really fucking bad. couldnt get past the first boss. it made no sense. stupid fucking lion just walks and punches the shit out of you, even if you shoot it 100000000 times.

This game is hard as fuck. There was this hilarious review of it by a guy who couldn't get past the first level even though he had the game for 15 years. He broke his controller before he was able to beat the level. Too bad the video of the review is nowhere on the internet now.

C'mon man at least give him a challenge. SMB3 with no whistles would be fucking brutal though tbh. He should play FF9 and get to Memoria in less than 10 hours and retrieve the Excalibur or Excalibur II or whatever it is. That I don't think is even possible and I've never been able to do it

So is it only extremely hard and annoying NES or SNES games we're talking about here? I can think of plenty of ridiculously hard games for newer systems if you want three dimensions. DMC 1 on Dante Must Die while only using the Force Edge is insane.

SMB3 with no whistles would be fucking brutal though tbh.

Not hard at all if you actually have the system. I haven't been able to beat the game on the computer though. I got stuck at the last fortress on world 7.

On a side note, has anyone beaten SMB2? I don't think I ever have, kind of a weird game tbh

stretch
03-10-2011, 12:58 PM
I beat SMB2 once. It's very different, but it was still pretty fun.

Nick Manning
03-10-2011, 01:01 PM
World 6 and 7 are a bitch on SMB3...tbh it's easier to just rack up all the shrooms, fire, frogs, etc for the first 5 worlds then go crazy in 6-7-8

Axe Murderer
03-10-2011, 01:02 PM
ya worlds 1-6 are a breeze. world 7 is where it starts to get tough

stretch
03-10-2011, 01:06 PM
the biggest reason SMB3 without whistles would be brutal isnt neccesarily the difficulty, as opposed to how long it would take, and tedious it would get.

i mean there definitely are difficult parts, especially in worlds 7 and 8, but the length of the game would bug me a lot more.

stretch
03-10-2011, 01:07 PM
I think the ultimate challenge would be to get through stage 6-2 in Ninja Gaiden without dying once, and without using the jump-slash powerup.

If someone can do that, I would buy you a shitty beer :toast
