ELE Extinction Level Event is a term from the motion picture "Deep Impact" where a meteor hits the earth near NYC sending a gigantic tidal wave all the way West to Missouri.

Tea Leoni plays a reporter who at first thinks ELE means Elie and that a Senator is having an affair. When she Googles the term she is presented a URL page of past ELE like when the dinosaurs were rendered extinct.

Me. That's my invention.

¡Gracias, Che!

The enforcement issues aside, the concept is silly. You lose a bet and have a built in excuse to avoid having to deal with the avalanche of "LOL whatever" threads. Shit I didn't lose any bets with that Lakers game and I largely avoided this place for about 48 hours just because I know it gets radioactive after a game like that.

There's a swell ELE theme in the motion picture "Knowing" with Cage. He comes across a scroll out of a 1950's time capsule that has countless lines of numbers. He discovers the first set of each numbers are latitude & longitudes coordinates, and the second set of numbers is a set number and denotes the number of dead in the corresponding disaster at site. Turns out the numbers corresponds to natural and man made disaster throughout history (WW II), 9/11, Columbine, Pierce backing away from Artest, Waco, OKC, etc.

The unknown configuration is the last one. It gives the coordinates fine, but no numbers, just two letters EE.

Turns out the EE stands for Everyone Else, as the Sun comes lethally close to Earth.

That was a pretty good one. I liked the and destruction.

And the plane crash half way thru was incredible.
