You've got a very restrictive definition of easy.

The Spurs need the tough games. Despite how good they are on offense, they still aren't playing good enough defense to make feel comfortable about their chances in the playoffs.

This. Games like last night against the Kings of the league do nothing to get this team hardened for the postseason. If HCA is goal number 1, then getting ready for the playoff should be 1A.

Could not have said it better myself. Win or lose, Pop knows he still has to get this team playing better defense.

10-7
quite possible, but that should be enough to hold HCA throughout the playoffs, especially if they beat the Mavs and Celtics
What Im concerned is, POP pulling in the reigns to rest their starters and messing up their rhythm.
One thing for sure is we will all enjoy these great games against good teams.

10-7 is more than enough.
That gets the Spurs to 63-19. To equal that the three remaining teams would have to finish:
Boston: 17-2
Dallas: 16-1
Chicago: 17-1

There is no way this team goes 10-7 unless we clinch the first seed so early that we loose games to rest the big 3.
This team is most likely going for a 15-2 or 14-3 run, that can only be stopped due to clinching the season early.

you are not considering the quality of the teams the SPURS will be facing in the rest of the schedule. It's BY FAR the most demanding stretch of the season.

If it is the most demanding it's not by much. Check Dec 5th to Jan 7th, for example.
Home games against NO, Atl, Port, Memp, Phx, Den, the Lakers and OKC. Road games against Den, Orl, Dallas, NY, Boston, and Indy.
Spurs went 13-4 in that stretch.

That's good... warms us up for a hell of a tough playoff run.
By the time we play the last couple games, they'll probably be meaningless because the standings will have been determined. So for example, we probably won't play our starters against the Lakers or the Suns.

10-7 is a reasonable prediction, and should get them HCA.
Another reasonable prediction is that if they finish 10-7, there will be considerable butt-clenching about the playoffs in here.

True.
Predicting what will happen to the Spurs is difficult. Predicting how ST will react is ridiculously easy.

I think we win that game against the Heat on Monday. I think we also win against the Grizz on 3/27. No reason we can't beat Denver either.

I just don't like the trend lately. Playing 48 minutes was what got them off to this great start. Don't think they've played a 48 minute game since the ASB. The Lakers game wasn't a wake up call, because they came out strong fell asleep against Detroit.

They can play defense, and they can rebound. The question is do they want to.

Oh, I'm one of them. I still don't see signs of a defense that will get them past the second round.

At least Pop has moved Dice to the starting lineup. That move alone has to happen in order for the Spurs to have something that resembles a passable interior defense.

So us being 2-1 against the Grizz is having our number? Where do people get this crap from 1 1/2 games? Good lord fans are just rediculous at times.
They play us tough yes, but I would not say they have our number.

I don't know what improvements we can make at this point.
The goal should be to get to HCA as soon as possible and rest thereafter.

Have you seen this new team ? :wow
5th best D in the league after the trade (although tonight they only played good D in the 3rd qtr). The offense is still potent, even not more potent that before. Tonight they had 8 guys in double figures and K had 9. Their rebounding has improved alot as well.
None of the guys are constantly playing 30mins or more and they are 2 deep at every position.
They had 131 pts with 33 dimes tonight. Some other key points
- Ty Lawson is settling into the starters role and has had double double in his last game.
- Nene is getting more looks on offense and is being more aggresive. He is averaging 18.4ppg/9.6rpd over his last 5 games
- Kmart is healthy and playing for a contract
- AA is a stud who is scoring more, although he is out now for a little while.
This isn't even including a re-energised birdman, adding the new guys and the fact the Nuggets now have a couple of 7 footers on the bench (even if they are scrubs :lol ).
The new team scores like the old one, but it plays D and shares the ball more.
I love this new team. Not sure they can do much when they come up against veteran teams in the playoffs, but i guarantee they will give 100% every night which is more than a melo-led team ever did.
