View Full Version : Poor coaching

Have you ever thought that maybe the real issue could be poor coaching? IMO it seems Pop has given up on teaching defense to our new guys. Maybe he is too tired to teach it etc, so he is now going to the R + G offense and will let the chips fall where they may.

Like Phil Jackson said when we got blown out by 16 points- "Their problem is frontcourt they have a Brazilian center sitting there who is talented and he is not being used"

I'm sure Phil would play him!

Phil went on to say "I'm not sure what Pop is thinking, but I wouldn't coach that way."

So Spurs fans, the whole thing seems to be Coach Pop. Guys even Rick C. uses the whole bench!

Look at Doc Rivers he has been to the Finals the past two years and Pop has not been there since 2007. Maybe Doc didn't win a title, but he went! Pop hasn't gone because of what? POOR COACHING!

Discuss?

Rick C has no championships.

Doc Rivers was in the finals last year; not the year before. Our current roster lacks any defensive stoppers anyways. Timmy is our only shot blocker, all of our previous championship teams had a shot blocker alongside him.

The only beef I got with Pop is that he doesn't use splitter or anderson enough. And he uses Bonner too much.

Our problem is our frontcourt which can be solved by developing splitter as quick as possible.

Our last game against Dallas in 2005 (with 7 games to the POs) was a 68-104 embarrassment. Then we won the LOB.

Blowouts happen.

54-13....best record in the NBA, without an MVP candidate on the roster. There is no discussion. This is the very definition of team.

He didn't say any of that... it's bullshit.

Here's the thing. We dont have the defensive we used to. Everyone needs to get over that. Pop realizes this and is using the CURRENT roster to its strengths. That's why we have the best record. He has figured out a way to use the team he has to win. You're right it may or may not win a title because of lack of size or perimeter defense, whatever the case. But switching tiago for bonner or Blair is going to change the identity of the team with the best record. At this point in the season, there's no point in doing it. Next season, if we can develop tiago and bring in a few defensive minded players, then we can go back to the style Pop likes to play. If we try now, we don't win.

4 rings and 12 (or something like that) of 50+ win years in a row. Pop may make mistakes from time to time but I think you're gay to say that the Spurs aren't successful of getting to the Finals because of poor coaching.

if anything pop has a 50 win team at best holding on to the best record in the NBA. poor coaching is not at all an issue with the spurs in any way, shape or form.

Duncan was out that game due to injury.

The real REAL problem with the Spurs these days is simple. Duncan is old. This is no longer his team. Sure you'll hear everyone calling it Duncan's team but deep down inside we all know this is a perimeter oriented team that relies on drive and kick basketball. The only chance the Spurs have this season of winning anything is if Duncan finds some way to turn back the clock enough to at least command a double team making it easier for our three point shooters. On the defensive side, I've pretty much given up on the Spurs ever being a dominant defensive team again.

I don't know we're getting plenty of good looks their just not going down. I do have to agree we need to go inside out but we can also do that with penetration.

I don't know that it's so much the coaching......spurs are an older team....duncan is not the player he used to be....spurs may not have the athletes to compete with top teams who have length/size like lakers, dallas
