There are no valuables left in destroyed buildings? Jewelry store's jewelry is deemed worthless unless the building is in tact?

I think it has more to do with the fact that they're all apart of the same culture, tbh.

More of what I think the reason is. Notice how there's no fights getting food, gas, what-not. I think it's also respecting one another despite beliefs. Not having the well-I-don't-have-one-so-I'm-definitely-gonna-take-mine attitude. Maybe honor, too. Definitely not what you replied to.

The things you just highlighted are pretty much aspects of a socialistic - or a culture that values the group over the individual - culture. But yeah, definitely not what he replied to.

This doesn't necessarily mean thats true. We're all a part of the same culture in America as well yet we still see looting here. But in America, the individual is more important than the group in so many aspects and we preach survival of the fittest etc.

I guess my point is that while there are subsets of American culture I think thats true in Japan too so I don't think thats something you can pin as the reasoning for this. There are classes in Japan just like there are here.

hmmmmmmmmmmmmm, maybe because the country is actually united and whatever little deviant who intends to loot considers the unity of the country over adding chaos.

crime rates are extremely low in japan, so it probably stems from the same reason as that.

How many Japanese people were living under the poverty line before the tsunami hit?

And how many in Chile and New Orleans?

There's no such thing as different human races. There are objective and subjective factors which are determined by the historical economic relations that created different social classes.

Honestly those people in that picture could be half the people I grew up with or some members of my family. I grew up poor as shit in some of San Antonio's worst neighborhoods until middle/high school.

That being said, I'm sure there are people like that in Japan too. I have no doubts about this.

You'd be fine until black people went into your white neighborhood looking for stuff to loot.

Is it really a surprise to anyone? One of the first things I thought of when I heard about the earthquake was that there wouldn't be any looting because it's freakin Japan. There are generally lower rates of people acting like retarded uncivilized monkeys in Japan.

First of all lets say you do find something to steal, where you going to store it? How the hell you going to use it? Who you gonna sell it to? You think eBay wants any of that radioactive shit? And besides, even if there was any black folks in Japan you think they need any aftershocks to know when to swim off that bitch? Hell to the muther fucking no! As soon as that place started shakin their black ass's would have been on the fist bus off that bitch!

Why do you all have to make this about anything other than the Japanese?

They are a people to be commended.

Folks be getting their loot on in Nicaragua and Brazil just as much as Sudan or Watts.

This type of social discipline is something Japanese alone.

I bet you if New Orleans was a poverty ridden japanese-american area, there still would be looting.

I seriously doubt that there are no lootings in Japan right now. Seriously seriously doubt that. Don't be that naive.

TOKYO — The earthquake and tsunami that pulverized coastal Japan crippled a bank's security mechanisms and left a vault wide open. That allowed someone to walk off with 40 million yen ($500,000).

The March 11 tsunami washed over the Shinkin Bank, like much else in Kesennuma, and police said between the wave's power and the ensuing power outages, the vault came open.

"The bank was flooded, and things were thrown all over. It was a total mess. Somebody stole the money in the midst of the chaos," said a police official in Miyagi prefecture, where Kesennuma is located.

The bank notified police on Tuesday, 11 days after the disaster, said the official, who spoke on customary condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to talk to the media.
