When I read news stories that say "Washington approved this"

who exactly do they mean? Which officials?

who exactly do they mean? Which officials?

Perhaps they mean that Washington is in agreement with the provisions?

I hate to say this, but she would've been a better leader than Barry. She has more balls.

eh.

I think having the Clintons back in the White House would have been a good thing for this country, but I can't think of any situations that show Obama to be completely devoid of leadership qualities.

we would need to start into definitions of leadership qualities and what it would mean to be completely devoid of them

I don't disagree with those sentiments.

But in every situation brought forth, I bet I can find one example of a leadership quality.

I'd rather not play that game though, tbh.

Obama isn't looking to lead, he's looking to be liked. He's a shitty president who's in over his head. He doesn't know what to do other than follow the example set by his predecessor, who unfortunately for us, was a shitty president.

Why not?

I'm confident I can find one leadership skill in any scenario presented so I would gain no education out of it in that regard.

I also foresee the entertainment value of such a game to be rather low.

Libya announced cessation of aggression in the past couple hours.

Sounds like FR and UK, both big consumers of Libyan carbon stuff, gonna lead the work.

Now to arm and support the Libyan rebels.

Then on to Bahrain, Yemen, Saudi Arabia, ...

Also, what I was reading this morning seems to think that the military thinks that a no fly zone will not be enough to turn the tide. If its not going to be enough and Qadaffi wins anyway, what the fuck was the point other than making us look stupid as shit?

oops. Seems like Obamacare worked

Libya announced a "immediate" cease-fire and a halt to military action Friday, hours after the U.N. Security Council authorized the use of force to protect besieged civilians in Libya.

Did it? Pretty sure the cease fire doesn't include Gaddafi's resignation. While it's a good thing that he's not going to be bombing his own people anymore, he's still in power. So what really got accomplished here?

There's a lot more complexities here than just bomb-Libya.

Why not Yemen and Bahrain, too? Those dictators are both killing their demonstrators. How to choose? Does the war on Libya encourage Bahrain and Yemen to keep going?

Remember how Poppie Bush encouraged the marsh Shiites to rise up against Saddam, then Poppie did nothing as Saddam slaughtered them and drained their marshes.

totally different. Bahrain and Yemen kings have backing of Bush family best friends the Saudis. Plus they are not about to commit mass murder on women and children.

IMO, it's nice to see America not being first to rush to the battlelines halfway around the world for a change. Let someone else lead and police the middle east for a while, we don't have the scratch for it.

We won't do anything now that there is a "cease fire"

When you call a no fly zone the first thing you do is bring in the B2's and knock out all their air defenses.

That ain't happening now...

We do find ourselves in a pretty awkward situation now. We've been telling Gaddafi that he's got to go, and now there's a cease fire. Does Gaddafi still have to go? Or are we content with the cease fire and just turn the other cheek while Libya goes back to "the good old days"?

A simple no fly zone would not do it, although I am not entirely convinced.

From what I heard they were contemplating a *bit* more than that.

Qadaffi backed off to try and buy some time and peace.

I think his hold on power is far more tenuous than is widely assumed. He has some loyalty from his army, but many will fight only so long as they get paid, and that is not the kind of solid loyalty that stands up very long under fire.
