As of today, 3/18/2011, if you need a basket as time is expiring, who do you give the ball to?

In this scenario, the player chosen is going to be taking the shot no matter what and not passing to a teammate, right? That being the case, I choose Kobe, because if you need a basket to win at the end of the game, then he's likely had (and missed) at least four or five shots in the previous two to three minutes. Plus he's used to going one-on-five with no conscience.

Seriously, Carmelo and Pierce are probably the best end of game shooters. Nash is really good if his team is up a point or down by 20.

Derek Fisher and timekeeper with palsy.

Winner!

Manu
PP
KD

Would have had Kobe on that list a few years ago (was it 2007 when he made something incredible like 9 game winning shots during the season?), but he's not nearly as reliable today.

To shoot it, or to have the ball in his hands to create something?

With Manu you're sure he will make the right play 90% of the time but as shooters there are other players I would pick like Dirk or Melo.

:lmao @ the rampant spurs homerism in the results. 11 votes for Manu but 0 for Wade?

Wade is literally Manu on steroids. He's the same player as Manu only with greater athleticism. Whatever Manu can do...Wade can do better.

If Manu had the explosive athleticism that he used to have 6 years ago in 2005, he'd be an even better version of Wade right now because he makes better team-oriented basketball decisions in crunch time.

But, that's not the case. Wade's superior athleticism trumps Ginobili's basketball IQ. Anybody who would choose Ginobili over Wade is a bumbling moron.

And, I'd choose Kobe over either Wade or Manu as far as shooting guards go.

Not only is Ginobili the new Batman, he's also Mr. Clutch. His shooting percentage isn't that great, but he's at the top of the list because he gets to the line often and makes his free throws when he does. The same goes for Maggette.

You might notice that every player in the top 10 is in the Western Conference. You also might notice that there's no Bryant, James, Wade or Carmelo Anthony in the top 10. They're a little further down the list. James ranks 12th, Anthony ranks 22nd, Wade ranks 28th and Bryant ranks 38th.

Research by ESPN.com shoots holes in the notion – widely-held among NBA players, coaches, GMs, analysts and fans – that Kobe Bryant is the most-clutch player in pro basketball.

In terms of the raw number of clutch shots made (defined as trailing by one or two points or tied in the final 24 seconds of a game), no other NBA player comes close to Bryant since his rookie season in 1996-97, according to the website, but the Lakers star has “racked up almost as many airballs as makes, making just below 30 percent of game-tying or go-ahead shots.”

Research by ESPN.com shoots holes in the notion that Kobe Bryant is the most-clutch player in pro basketball. (AP photo)In fact, he hasn't hit a clutch shot in the playoffs since 2008, and he missed big shots against the Jazz and Magic in 2009, and the Thunder and Suns last season.

Over his entire career, including both the regular season and playoffs, Bryant has made just 36 of 115 of clutch shots, or 31.3%.

Agreat case can be made for Anthony, Paul and some others but Manu at least over an extended period from the first article by NBA.com BLOWS AWAY the over hyped Bryant in this category. For those spouting Bryant he is also ONLY the 17th ranked NBA player ever in PER.http://www.basketball-reference.com/leaders/per_career.html

Bryant is a great all time player still but Mr. Clutch or even the near GOAT - NOT

Right now Wade is playing 2 ways as great as anyone in the leauge but so far he has not yet proven he is more clutch than Manu - Wade is a better all around player but the difference is not as great as it might appear (nor is there a large gulf between a healthy Manu and Bryant) as one might think using statistical metrics instead of media bias:

http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/hollinger/statistics?position=sg&action=upsell&appRedirect=http%3a%2f%2finsider.espn.go.com%2fnba %2fhollinger%2fstatistics%3fposition%3dsg

This year Manu is the 4th ranked SG by Hollinger in PER and last year he was #2 to only Wade and > than Bryant by the way: http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/hollinger/statistics?position=sg&year=2010&action=upsell&appRedirect=http%3a%2f%2finsider.espn.go.com%2fnba %2fhollinger%2fstatistics%3fposition%3dsg%26year%3 d2010

Alll three are great defenders when motivated but my personal view is overall these days I would go with Wade due to his youth and ability to coexist is seems (remains to be totally seen) with Wade/Bosh and then if I needed scoring would go with Bryant but if I needed the true clutch player and team player I would go with Manu over Bryant - especially if the difference in salary allowed me to get another star besides Manu vs. the egocentric and gunning Bryant solely for the team.
