It was disappointing, heartbreaking, upsetting, and everything other negative emotion you could possibly have. That’s what I was feeling after Texas lost 70-69 to Arizona.

The thing that kills me is the team’s ability to continually suck me in and make me feel this way.

Back on March 1st, I declared the season over. And yet there I was yesterday, on the edge of my seat hoping that Texas could complete their comeback and move on to the Sweet 16. It’s the same thing that happened to me last year. There I was, in San Jose working on postgame coverage of UTEP’s loss to Butler, and Texas goes to overtime and blows a lead to Wake Forrest… and I feel awful despite having given up on the team back in February.

It’s one of the blessings and curses of being so closely connected to a team.

When you’ve gone to a school, shared the experience as part of a family legacy, shared classes with the athletes you root for, and continue to support the school after you graduate, you have the right to say “we” when you refer to the team. So it feels great when you win a big game and it feels terrible when you lose… especially the way Texas did...
