Cousins seems like a more likely choice since he has some familiarity w/the spurs schemes

Agreed. We need another big as shown today. Novak really isnt a big so we only have 4

6'7". A legit sf, who I really liked out of college. Wouldn't mind the Spurs taking a flyer on him.

I've often wondered how he was progressing. He could be low-risk, high-reward player. He can't be any worse than the scrub train the Spurs have been running through the locker room.

This. Also like that he was coached by a tough, defensive-minded coach in Huggins at WV.

Earl Barron just finished his second 10-day contract with Milwaukee and was not signed for the rest of the season.

I bet Spurs were really interested, unless the Spurs know Duncan will be out for a while then I think they will go for a big man, prefer cousins, if not Butler would be a good guy to sign on for the rest of this season and next year.

Spurs don't really have needs for their 15th spot. Even with Duncan out, they are still deep in the paint with Dice, Blair, Bonner, Splitter and Novak. Signing someone for next year like Da'Sean Butler with the 15th spot would be a really good idea.

I just realized that possible signing Da`Sean Butler means James Anderson sucks. They both are pretty same players.

Exactly. No need to add another front-court player to roster. If we add, after Duncan returns half of the team will be front-court players.

Not really desean butler is more a legit small forwared at 6'7-6'8, james anderson 6'5,6'6 is more of a shooting guard, having both of them a the 2 and 3 for the future woould be solid even if there not starting in the future

Will DeSean Butler be available on play-offs?

Mavs will probably sign him to a three-year deal soon.

Seriously though, seems like a good kid with the right mentality, but he wasn't much of an athlete before the injury and shot a fairly low percentage from the field. Not sure he'll be all that much different from other available talent at the wing. But there's little risk with taking a flyer, so why not.

Da'Sean Butler Cleared From Injury, Could Create Roster Problem For Heat

http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/212451/DaSean_Butler_Cleared_From_Injury_Could_Create_Ros ter_Problem_For_Heat

Da’Sean Butler posted on his Twitter account Monday that he finally has been cleared for court work from the devastating knee injury during the 2010 NCAA Tournament.

Butler was a second round pick by the Heat last June, but was released by the team at the end of training camp as part of an agreement.

Miami guaranteed $300,000 for the 10-11 season and $394,000 for the 11-12 season.

The Heat would need to release a player to make room for Butler.

Yes he would until the last game of the season, only players who got bought from other teams after March 1 wouldn't be eligible. Butler probably wouldn't get any playing time either, he hasn't played any team basketball for about a year since tearing his ACL a year ago in the NCAA tournament, he was projected to be a 1s round pick last year, and Spurs were interested in him if James Anderson wasn't there at 20 last summer, but he would be perfect to guarantee a contract next year, and bring in for summer league, and training camp, he was probably one of the best shooters in college, so I doubt he has lost much of that.

Bonner and Novak don't qualify as "deep in the paint", because neither can play C. Novak can barely play PF. With Blair's wrist sprain, the managing of McDyess' minutes and Splitter not being in game shape/being foul prone, it wouldn't be a bad idea to have someone else available to man the middle with Duncan injured. Also, coming down the stretch, it would be nice to give McDyess the odd game off.

It could be that Butler's decision is holding up the Cousin signing. Speaking of Butler, he wasn't the greatest athlete pre-injury, so who knows how he'll be post-injury. But he is a solid prospect. A notch above the Green's and Hairston's of the world. So he's worth it to pursue. But if they miss on him, then it makes sense to sign Cousin.

What happened to us working out fab? With him and tiago it could be the ugliest (shot and dribble wise) front court in the NBA!

We never were. That quote got taken out of context. He was just talking about the possibility of returning to the league. I think the Blazers have his rights.
