The Spurs are 57-13, the best regular season record we have ever had at this point in the season. However, the thing that stands out the most, is that we still have not locked up our division. That tells you just how special a season this is. The Spurs don't just have the best record but they also play in by far, the hardest division.
Every team in our division is over .500. Two games seperate our division from sending every team to the playoffs. Two teams are over .700. That is pretty damn impressive.
LA has locked up their divsion, but the only other team playing over .500 are the Suns and they are 1 game over .500. People want to slober all over how good the Bulls are playing but they are the only team playing above .500 in their division and they have the Cavs at .188. Celtics have two teams, NY at .500 and Philly, two games over .500 but the other two teams are almost at .300 and lower.
The only other division that even compares to the SW is the NW. Four teams over .500 but only one team over .600.
If I am correct, you have to play everyone in your division four times. After that, you can play teams in your conference 3-4 times and then you play teams from the other conference twice.
Spurs get to play every division game against a team that has played .521 ball or better. A team like the Bulls get to play division games against teams from .188 to .437.
I know there is not a lot of analysis put into this post. But I just think its cool that we have the record we do in such a difficult division. I guess five years of playing in what has been by far the best division in basketball, it gets easy to overlook this point. However, this has made this one of the best seasons to watch Spurs basketball. Championship or not, this has been a great year and the Spurs have been a lot of fun to watch.
