According to nbadraft.net, his biggest issue is his mental problem. If Pop can make him work hard, then drafting him at 30 would be a steal.

He isn't going to be a difference maker any time soon.

I think his head is about 200 lbs and the rest of his body makes up the remaining 22lbs...

"...Nogueira is DraftExpress.com’s fourth-rated 18-year-old international prospect behind three players expected to be taken in the 2011 lottery – Jonas Valanciunas, Bismack Biyombo and Enes Kanter. ... While Nogueira isn’t close to becoming an impact player in the NBA at 18 years old, he could be especially appealing to contending teams picking later in the first round or teams with multiple picks. ..."

In such a weak draft I think he would not fall to Spurs' pick. He would possibly even be drafted in the lottery.

Write up from 4/15 on DX:
Brazilian big man Lucas Nogueira had plenty of NBA draft buzz coming into the 2011 Nike Summit after impressing many who saw him last summer at the U-18 FIBA Americas tournament in San Antonio, where he led the tournament in rebounds, blocks, and field goal percentage. He played less than 13 minutes during the game at the Hoop Summit, second least on the team, but he did score 4 points, grabbed 6 rebounds, and blocked a shot, and gave glimpses of why he is such an intriguing prospect.
Lucas's appeal starts with his incredible physical tools, as a 7-footer with a freakishly long 7'6” wingspan, and excellent mobility for a player his size. At this stage, his physical talents manifest themselves mainly in some jaw-dropping blocked shots, rebounds, and dunks from offensive rebounds, cutting to open spaces, and running the floor. His body is still very thin and weak, but that should come in time with the proper work ethic.

and I agree..
Kid has too much upside to get past the spurs, but in all likely hood will get drafted before #29.

I posted that on the general nba draft but I think it belongs here
If the spurs pick him it would be to send him somewhere to progress: he is a really really long term project for the nba. Brazilian experts are quite high on him, he is long and likes flashy dunks (not sure he is pop material tbh).

Makes a lot of sense. Everything I read about him indicates that he's really talented, but just as raw. My fear for him is that some team falls in love with his talent, picks him too early, dumps huge early expectations on him then proceeds to fast-track his development - and he fails in the process.
Knowing that he's a long-term project, I'd still love for him to fall to the Spurs. However, I agree with you in that I don't believe he's a Pop-kind-of-player - long-term or short-term.

Lets be honest here, he is no where near ready for the NBA. He's hardly over 200 pounds
Don't disagree, but Thabeet went crazy early on his upside. Wasn't a smart draft, but it is what it is.

Lets be honest here, he is no where near ready for the NBA. He's hardly over 200 pounds, played in the 5th division in Spain, is only 18 and doesn't speak English. Talent is there no doubt, but if the Spurs are looking for someone to help right off the bat then JaJuan Johnson would be a much better pick.
Pretty much this
If the spurs pick him which I doubt they'll let him play in Europe for few years before thinking bringing him in the nba, he is much more raw than splitter when the spurs picked him for instance.
Nevertheless this age with this size it is always interesting

I would prefer Nogueira and low cost veteran 4/5 for the coming season rather than Johnson personally. Lucas is listed at 222 lbs and Johnson is listed at 220 lbs, not sure how weight plays into not drafting Nogueria..

The Spurs already drafted a high school player last year in Richards. Why would they want to draft 2 high school players in a row?
One high school player is more than enough.
I gotta agree with you here...The Spurs have their project.

That might be true, but still, too much talent to pass up if he's available. Besides, we need all the help we can get in our frontcourt.

how much of his supposed 7 feet height is tall hair?
If he's reallly 6-9.5 in shoes with a shaved head then there's less reason to get excited.

This. Besides, if the Spurs really wanted another project big man with tremendous upside, they could always pick Jeremy Tyler.

Because the spurs already have 12+ players under contract..The spurs can afford to wait on this kid and it has nothing to do with Richards. All the spurs will be looking for this summer is for 4th or 5th big (since thats all they can afford salary wise). Not sure why everyone is even bring up Ryan Richards since he very little experience when he was drafted and now has not played in over a year. I take this kid if he there...

Nogueira is a high school player. He is playing in high school level in Spain. Do you really think a HIGH SCHOOL player can make the Spurs rotation?
What are you talking about? please read my post again and you will see I never mentioned him making the rotation next season...Draft and stash

He said the opposite. That we could draft the kid and wait for his development for a few years. And I Igree with him.

If Nogueira wants a first round guarantee to stay in the draft, Spurs should guarantee him the 29th pick.

This is my pick for the 1st round.
I wonder if Spurs have alot of interest in this kid, he will be a lottery pick next year, would be really dumb to pass on that, and having 2 versatile, and talented 7 footers under 20(Richards, and Nogueira) would be something really looking forward to for Spurs fans.
Still hoping Spurs can buy a early 2nd round pick, and Jajuan Johnson who is my second choice, followed by Tyler Honeycutt, and Jeremy Tyler.
Has there been any interest from the Spurs about Lucas?
My second round sucks, and hoping Bojan Bogdanovic keeps falling like he has recently, but doubt he falls that far, also Xavi Rabaseda is another sleeper for that pick, but contract issues in there country are costing them to drop it seems. If not I don't see any point guards later in the round that are better than George Hill(unless he is traded), so I would just trade the pick to get a 2nd round for next year.

You can never say never. We all know the draft is a glorified crap shoot. While there is no way for anyone to know whether or not Johnson will be there at #29, you can't say there is a 0% chance.

I agree with you, but I would say the chances are not good. I dont know that I have seen a player in recent years improve like he has, play at a high level, put up the numbers that he has get so little fan fair.
I think NY, Philly, Bost are all possible landing spot for him. I see him as a Robert Horry type player, and maybe a better shot blocker. If he falls to 29 spurs should jump.
Stop it man. Now, you've got me hoping and wishing. :lol
I don't want to further derail this Bebe thread by going on about Johnson, so I"ll post my remaining comments in that thread.

Yeah guess you are right on that, but Spurs will have to trade up to grab Johnson, its far more likely he is gone by the 20th pick then he is their at 29.

Barring an unexpected last-minute promise from a team in the 1st round, Lucas Nogueira will withdraw from the draft according to his agent.

The smart move would be for the spurs to make him a first round promise now that's possible...in three/four years this move could pay huge dividends!

Just because he couldn't get a "promise" doesn't mean he wasn't going to drop into the second round. Nogueira won't be back until at least 2013. He'll test next year's waters but I doubt he improves enough in one year to get a "promise" in a much stronger 2012 draft.
Doesn't mean he was going to get drafted in the 1st either..Kid simply needs to refine his game and he should be lottery pick in 2-3 years..

Well he is only 18 and 180 pounds. Let him get out of the ACB 5th division.
6'11 height, 7'5 wingspan, 215 lbs, and yes only 18 years old..His measurements alone would have gotten a 1st rd pick this season and with a little more seasoning I have no doubt he will be lotto bound in a couple of seasons. No reason to rush to the highest level of european basketball if you cannot recieve any PT when you get there...

I disagree. With all of the quality collegians who pulled out, he'll be lucky to be rated first round next year at any point whatsoever. In addition, that's one more year to pick his game apart. The best thing to be in the draft, outside of a sure fire #1 overall, is a mystery.
