7. New Orleans 40-31
8. Memphis 40-32
___________________________________

9. Houston 38-34

Memphis and Houston have a fairly easy rest of schedule but New Orleans rest of schedule will be tough.

@ Utah
@ Phoenix
@ Los Angeles
vs. Portland
vs. Memphis
vs. Indiana
vs. Houston
vs. Phoenix
@ Memphis
vs. Utah
@ Dallas

New Orleans would be lucky to do .500 during this stretch, putting them in jeopardy in being in the lottery after their hot start.

All depends if CP3 plays like he still gives a crap. I think they still get in. And don't forget that Portland has 30 losses, and if Denver loses to the Spurs tonight, they have 30 losses also, so any of those teams could be in the lottery if they go cold down the stretch.

Its gonna be close no doubt. Hornets choked a win against Boston due to the bench and CP3. They hold tiebreakers over all the teams right now.

The tiebreakers are big. 2-1 vs Denver, 2-1 vs Houston, 2-0 vs Memphis, 2-1 vs Portland.

The home game vs. Houston will be big.

I think Hornets fans are saying same thing, as they would much rather play a team they have a 2-2 series tie and have beaten handily twice than a Lakers team who has manhandled them all 3 times.

You know the Bestern Conference is strong when there's a team in Houston that is 38-34 and will likely finish with at least 45 wins and with Phoenix also a legit +.500 team and neither of them are likely to make the playoffs. It's pretty incredible for a 45-win team to miss the playoffs, but in the NBA it's called the West, I think the Warriors won 48 in 2008 and got snubbed too.

Meanwhile look at the Leastern conference, as it has three 'playoff' teams, two are struggling .500-meandering teams and one is a bad team that will likely make the playoffs with 36-37 wins. Pathetic. Even the Hawks aren't that great. Only four strong teams in the East compared to at least seven out west.

Hornets’ head coach Monty Williams discusses moving forward without David West (http://probasketballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/03/25/hornets-head-coach-monty-williams-discusses-moving-forward-without-david-west/)
Brett Pollakoff

The loss of David West for the season due to a torn ACL injury (http://probasketballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/03/25/hornets-david-west-out-for-the-season-with-torn-acl/) was a devastating blow to a Hornets team that currently sits seventh in the Western Conference playoff picture. Head coach Monty Williams talked about it with the assembled media for the first time since the diagnosis became official Friday afternoon, as New Orleans prepared to take on the Suns in Phoenix.

“It was tough,” Williams said. “He’s one of my favorites, and became more of a favorite since I’ve been around the team. You just hate to see a guy put all of his energy and passion into the game, make the right play and come down and hurt himself like that and be done for the year. But he’s one of the toughest guys I’ve been around and he and his wife Leslie, they’ll get through this, and we’ll look forward to the future.”

Williams said that he (like the rest of us) had a bad feeling about the severity of West’s injury the moment he first saw it.

“I looked at the way he went down (Thursday) night and I just thought to myself, he’s probably not going to be back,” Williams said. “I’ve seen him get hurt so many times, and he usually gives me the thumbs up or I can look him in the eyes and tell whether or not it’s a bad one or he’s going to be back in a game or two.”

Without West, the Hornets will start Carl Landry, who hasn’t seen a single minute of court time (http://hangtime.blogs.nba.com/2011/03/25/statscube-the-west-effect/) replacing West in the lineup alongside the team’s other four regular starters. From there, at least initially, Williams seems to be ready to adjust on the fly.

“Carl’s going to start, and outside of that, we’re going to play it by ear,” Williams said. “Consequences and rotations and matchups will dictate the rest. But Jason (Smith) has got to be ready to play, David Andersen has got to be ready to play, and we may play some small ball to take advantage of our quickness.”

Williams is aware of the impact the loss of West is likely to have on his team. But he’s showing a confidence and toughness in the face of this adversity that the team should be able to rally around — as his closing comments on the matter would seem to suggest.

“Even though we’re all human, even though we all feel bad about the situation, we have jobs to do,” Williams said. “We’ve got to go out and play hard. The circumstances are what they are. We still get to play basketball. Nobody died. Last time I checked we all still get paid, so we’re going to go out there and play.”

Hornets sign Ewing Jr. to 10-day contract (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=ap-hornets-ewingjr)

The New Orleans Hornets have signed forward Patrick Ewing Jr. to a 10-day contract.

The move comes a day after the club learned leading scorer David West will be lost for the rest of the season with a torn ligament in his left knee.

Ewing is a former Georgetown standout and the 26-year-old son of Hall of Fame center and current Orlando assistant coach Patrick Ewing.

The younger Ewing is 6-foot-8 and 235 pounds. He has spent much of this season in the NBA Development League with Reno and Sioux Falls. He has averaged 17.7 points and 9.4 rebounds in 49 games.

The Hornets next play Sunday night against the Lakers in Los Angeles.

Paul has stepped up the last two games. They can steal a home game. Hopefully they don't repeat another thrashing like before.

This hurts the team in the long run too because West was going to get signed to a long-term contract or leave. Now it leaves West and the team in purgatory since he will probably accept his player option of 7.5 million for next season.

son it all depends on the seeding. if the Hornets face the Lakers, then forget about it they will be swept out. however if they can luck up and get the Spurs or the Mavs then they will have a legit chance at winning multiple games. If they get the Mavs, they can easily win that series even without West playing. If they get the Spurs, well they won't win the series, but at least they could win a game or two without him.

It would be hard for them to beat the Mavs. Not sure if they would have enough scoring and not sure how they would guard Dirk. Plus, with Landry starting, would the bench give enough production to keep up with the Mavs?

jay_shs
03-27-2011, 10:15 AM
BR had it almost right...the Spurs however would sweep them clean with or without West, as the Lakers would...but the Mavs on the other hand are susceptible to losing to anyone in the first round, with or without HCA...and we all know this.

Hornets should move down to 8th seed where they'll face us. I don't want to have to play the Grizzlies. Leave them to play the Mavs or Lakers. They'd probably take the Lakers down to the wire in a hard fought 6 games. If they play the Mavs I say they actually beat the Mavs in 6 games.

Blazers, the best of the three, have the ability to annihilate whoever they're playing in the first round, I definitely wouldn't want them. If they play the Mavs in the first round the Mavs are cooked geese, if they play the Lakers they take them to 7 and the series goes either way.

There's a reason the Hornets split two games with the Spurs. Even knocked them out in the AT&T center.

Duncan can't dominate Okafor in the post, meaning the Spurs will have to make their 3's. Even a 80% Paul is better than Parker. Manu has a big edge, but he will see alot of Ariza on him. I think the Spurs would win in 6 with a healthy West.

After today the Hornets have 6 of their final 9 games at home, with only 2 of those 6 against playoff teams (MEM and POR). Hornets should be able to hang on, imo...maybe even keep the 7th seed if they're lucky.

Spurs would stomp the Bee's with or without West. Please, ohhhhhhhhhhhh please, let NO fall to 8.

lmao ... Spur fans getting excited to play N.O. without their team leader David West!

son if West was healthy, the Hornets would have a legit chance at beating the Spurs in a 7 game series and YOU KNOW IT. you may not want to admit it, but the Hornets have beaten the fuck out of the Spurs twice this season and once on their home floor. Not many other teams can say that.

without West in the lineup however, the Spurs will win. no doubt.

tbh I don't think the Hornets had a shot at beating any of the top 3 seeds even with West.

NO would have no chance to beat the Spurs in the playoffs. Even their best year, they couldn't.

I never learned how to spell it. I grew up in Mississippi and I was a X-Men fan.

That isn't the point. DPG was saying the Spurs would sweep the Hornets even if they hsd West. I was bending him over repeatedly to show him why he was wrong. The Hornets were good enough to beat alot of good teams with West. Its obviously different now with Team Leader out, but I never said the Hornets had a chance without him. DPG was just trying to troll as usual.
