Well that's it, as far as I'm concerned, we DO NOT look like championship material. I'm not being a fan who is going crazy over just one loss, this was absolutely pathetic. At this rate, we will lose home court advantage.

Both blew it with just pathetic play. How that is on Pop I have no idea. The hate should be addressed to TP and Manu right now. And mostly TP. 40 seconds left and he lazily handles the ball allowing Miller to pick his pocket?

Getting harder and harder to see this team winning a title. They have been playing poorly overall and their record is inflated. They are a very good team, but they have been going the wrong direction in level of play for too long to say it's a slump. They aren't ready for the playoffs at this point IMO. It will take something drastic.

To this extent, yes. But they have been playing sub par ball for a while. Especially defensively.
They are in trouble and I called it before Tim went down. Not only have they not corrected the major flaws that were there when they were playing great, almost every area has declined to a certain degree.
Like I said, they are a very good team. But they seem to be too flawed and it appears they peaked too early. Hopefully I am wrong.

A bunch of guys had a hand in blowing the loss, Tony most of all, but I don't understand what Novak was thinking throwing a prayer of a pass on the baseline. With .9 left you gotta do what Portland did and lob it at the basket. Even if your guy doesn't catch it the other team doesn't have the time to do anything.
I still have no idea what Tony was thinking on that turnover. Did he think Miller was just gonna foul him?

We were up 2 at the break. Small ball commenced with 3 to play in the 3rd and we were down 6. 12 min later we are up 10, a 16pt tournaround. Why change it? Stupid turnovers, 3 in the last 36 seconds which led to 6 straight points, cost us this game. Plus the retard foul call with .9 when the refs interfered with the end of the game.

This makes us hungry and opens our eyes. We can fucking beat legit teams in Denver and Portland without TD, so with TD we will be fine. Yes this lost hurts like a mother fucker, but its a learning lesson. This kind of shit doesn't happen a lot kind of like T-Mac going ape shit on us in the last minute. I also find it funny how the "burn the tape" crew will respond. Every loss they say "this will fire the Spurs up! They will learn and improve!". They haven't.
They have serious, serious problems. It's not that they don't want to, but they physically seem unable too. They look like they reached the top of their mountain and have started downhill.
I can still see them getting to the WCF, but beyond that, I just don't see anything. I see a very short series vs LA, if SA can make it that far.

Batum tap silences Spurs in Portland (http://blog.mysanantonio.com/spursnation/2011/03/25/spurs-undone-by-critical-gaffes/)
Jeff McDonald
The doors swung open to the visiting locker room at the Rose Garden late Friday night, revealing a scene somber even for a wake.
...“It was ridiculous,” a subdued Manu Ginobili said. “One of the craziest games I’ve lost in the NBA.”
...The ball went out of bounds untouched.
“I just couldn’t reach it,” said Ginobili, who had 10 of his 21 points in the fourth.
...“We knew they were going to the rim,” Popovich said. “We were switching it, and we did a poor job switching it.”
...Later, in the locker room, while his teammates still wondered what went wrong on the Batum tap, Ginobili still fumed about the turnovers that came all before.
“Three in 40 seconds,” he said. “Unacceptable.”
...This is the kind of loss that sticks with a team, even though it shouldn’t. There is another game Sunday in Memphis, against another tough team on the road.
“We just have to move on,” Parker said.

Batum hits at the buzzer for 98-96 win over Spurs (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/recap?gid=2011032522)
By Anne M. Peterson
Too far away to dunk, Nicolas Batum just had to pop the ball over Tony Parker and hope for the best.
Batum had never hit a game-winner until Friday night when he scored at the buzzer to give the Portland Trail Blazers a 98-96 victory over the league-leading San Antonio Spurs.
"I couldn't dunk it," Batum said. "I tried to dunk it, but I was too far out so I just had to push it, and the ball just turned around and in. I was scared to miss it."
Batum finished with 21 points for the Blazers, who won their sixth straight game at the Rose Garden, and their sixth in a row at home against the Spurs.
San Antonio led by as many as 10 in the fourth quarter but Portland pulled within one at 91-90 after a pair of free throws from Batum. Parker answered with a layup and Manu Ginobili made a 3-pointer to put San Antonio in front 96-90 with 1:21 left.
But the Spurs stumbled with turnovers and Andre Miller made two straight layups before Batum added a pair of free throws to tie it for Portland with 0.9 seconds left.
After Steve Novak's inbound pass sailed out of bounds past Ginobili, Andre Miller lobbed his to Batum under the basket for the winner over Parker.
"It was just me and the rim," Batum said.
Miller called it the best pass he's ever made, and Brandon Roy was dazzled.
"The ball went right over my head and I looked over at Nic and he was right under the rim," said Roy, who was acting as a decoy on the play. "And I thought, 'Whoa! We can win!"
Ginobili finished with 21 points and seven assists for the Western Conference-leading Spurs, who were coming off a 122-115 loss at Denver on Wednesday that opened a three-game road trip. The loss snapped a three-game winning streak.
Ginobili said a victory against the Blazers would have been sealed had the Spurs not had three turnovers in the final 40 seconds.
"It was ridiculous," he said. "One of the craziest games I've ever lost in the NBA."
Portland finished the game on a 20-8 run, including an 8-0 run over the final 1:12.
The Blazers were jockeying for playoff position at 1 1/2 games in front of Denver for sixth place. Portland heads out on the road for the next three games -- against Oklahoma City, San Antonio and New Orleans.
"That was a big game. It was a really big game before we go back out there and play them again," said Miller, who had 21 points and eight assists. "You don't want to go out on a road trip losing a home game to a team that you're going to play again in a couple of days."
The Spurs were without Tim Duncan, who sprained his left ankle Monday night in a win over Golden State. He landed awkwardly after making a short jumper just 4 minutes in.
The two-time MVP, averaging 13 points and nine rebounds, did not travel on the road trip with the Spurs and there is no timetable for his return. The Spurs started Brazilian forward Tiago Splitter in Duncan's place.
The Blazers saw the return of veteran center Marcus Camby, who missed a game after tweaking his right ankle in a los to the Los Angeles Lakers last Sunday night.
The Spurs led by as many as 11 in the first quarter, but Portland narrowed it to 28-24 after Gerald Wallace's 3-pointer. Wallace hit another one to make it 28-27 at the start of the second.
Portland kept it close, but was unable to pull ahead until Miller's fast-break layup on a bounce pass from Wallace made it 47-46. The Spurs quickly reclaimed the lead on Matt Bonner's 3-pointer.
Both teams were streaky in the second half. Batum hit a 3-pointer midway through the third quarter that put Portland up 62-56. But the Spurs scored the next seven straight to pull back ahead 63-62.
The Blazers rallied again to go up 73-66 on LaMarcus Aldridge's dunk.
It appeared that Ginobili fouled Camby under San Antonio's basket, but it wasn't called and Ginobili hit a 3-pointer when Camby was appealing to officials to tie it at 75 with 10:25 to go. The Spurs went ahead on layups from Gary Neal, Bonner and Grant Hill to make it 81-75.
San Antonio extended the lead to 88-78 on Neal's running jumper.
"Tonight, we hung in there," Blazers coach Nate McMillan said. "We didn't panic late. We had to make stops and make plays. We didn't drop our heads, we continued to play."
NOTES: Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said he wouldn't change much because of Duncan's absence: "It's so late in the season, it's hard to change what you've been doing all year." ... It was just San Antonio's second two-game losing streak this season. ... Miller scored 13 of his 21 points in the second half. ... All five Portland starters were in double figures for the fifth time this season.

On a lighter note, I got an autograph from Bonner. Neal just walked right by me.
Sorry they didn't get the win but an autograph is always cool.

Yep and I also got to meet some Spurs fans. I bet their heads were down just like mine after the game.
It doesn't beat a Timmy autograph, that's for sure. Lucky you. :toast

Definitely. I think if I had been home watching the game, my meltdown would be a lot worse right now. But i got to see everyone minus Timmy close up. That was worth it, for sure.

Cool that you got an autograph. :tu I got TD to sign my Authentic Home jersey back in December, and I framed that thing right away. :lol I also got Manu, Hill, James Anderson, Dice, and Splitter to sign my Spurs flag...

We all did. I cheered my ass off for the team that even my buddy got slapped in the back by some douchebag kid after Batum's basket.

It was. I'm upset about the loss. But if I had the chance, I would go through that experience again. I will just tune out after Novak failed to inbound. :lol

Yep. Some Blazer fan took the Phoenix route and kept calling the Spurs "cheaters" when the refs didn't call a foul. Sucks they had the last laugh.

:lol yeah. After that, I just stood up every time the Spurs made a basket and cheered. It was my first Spurs game so I couldn't talk trash like I do in game blogs. I was trying to take it all in. I definitely want to do it again.

I watched the whole game on replay with League Pass where the made shots are always shown on the timeline. I always push the button to hide that, but before I did I saw the blue "D" at the end of the timeline (after minutes of no made shots).
Then it was 0.9 seconds to go and I was in joy ... wow, we will this game by an alley oop dunk ... and then Novak throws the ball away. Fuckin unbelievable.
I blame this one on Pop (just because small ball gives you the lead, should not mean to bench Splitter and Dice for the whole 4th quarter) and on Manu/TP for getting their pocket picked so often in the 4th ... should not happen to veterans!

I just watched the game as I had to work and I cannot believe it. I cannot believe it. Cannot believe we lost that game.
I guess this has already been discussed but POP IT A TOTAL FUCKING RETARD for not playing Splitter good minutes in the 4th quarter. Fucking choker of a coach.
LOL anyone want to go to the chatroom????? U got time to chat Fireball? Anyone else? I'll be in the chatroom.
I have never been this mad after a game for a LONG, LONG TIME.

Portland Trailblazers 98, San Antonio Spurs 96: A perfect storm of errors (http://www.48minutesofhell.com/)
by Jesse Blanchard
48 Minutes of Hell
You know how Kobe Bryant can take so many bad shots at the end of games, but the ones he hits are so spectacular people tend to forget the many more he misses, while the heroics are forever etched in their minds? Well this was the complete opposite of that.
There was quite a bit of positive to take from this Spurs game, especially in the fourth quarter, that no one will remember because the San Antonio Spurs botched things so spectacularly bad down the stretch.
Call it the anti-Kobe clutch theory. Sean Elliott called it a perfect storm of errors. That’s what it took for the Spurs string of misery to continue in Portland even after outshooting the Blazers, almost drawing even on the boards, and holding LaMarcus Aldridge to 14 points.
Three turnovers in the last minute, all leading to points quick points for the Blazers. The final one with less than a second left on a botched inbounds pass that setup a brilliant alley-oop pass from Andre Miller to Nicolas Batum that, again, displayed terrible execution from the Spurs.

This should've been a Spurs win, but a series of turnovers in the last seconds just ruined the game.

Loss in Portland was a bait and switch (http://blog.mysanantonio.com/spursnation/2011/03/26/loss-in-portland-was-a-bait-and-switch/)
Jeff McDonald
...“We said we were going to switch everything, but there was not really a pick,” Parker said. “You can say ‘if’ until the end of the world. It was just a great play for Portland.”

“We just have to move on,” Parker said.
As a fan im struggling to let it go. Awful way to lose. Saw glimpses of this in the Dallas game. Teams leaders in Manu and Tony thought they already had it sewn up and got complacent. For an exprienced team and the coach, you can only hope it's a wake-up call.
Pop's lack of faith in Splitter for second halfs of games after playing great first halfs is getting ridiculous. Finishing off with Novak on the in-bounds play is over-coaching.
