View Full Version : Poorest final 30 seconds in team history?

I sure as hell can't recall any worse. It's like the team was throwing the game.

Aldridge gifts us 2 missed FTs, team is still up 4 with ball.

Tony INEXPLICABLY (really, this was one of the most ridiculous plays i have seen) just lets miller take the ball from him. Manu lets a guy on his heals take the ball from him - Portland then tries to blow a fast break, but draws a foul on the offensive rebound. Pop then goes all big with Manu the only option Portland has to worry about - so Novak tosses it out of bounds, because 'why not?' - and then we allow a play so obvious that even Portland's idiot announcers (and they are complete idiots) said was coming beforehand.

Damn, that's going to take at least one more bourbon to get rid of...

This. But this game is surely second place. The amount of dumb plays in that final minute was fucking disgusting.

Yeah this still has nothing on the McGrady game but this was pretty fucking close. Novak on the inbound has to be the absolute dumbest decision I've seen in years.

Yeah, TMac at least went into 'unguardable' mode at the end of that one. Portland didn't do anything out the ordinary other than take exactly what the Spurs gave to them.

How can anybody compare the Tmac game to this one? The game was over 3 times and yet the Spurs were able to hand the Blazers a win.

EVERYONE CALM THE FUCK DOWN! Yes we fucked up big time. Yes Tiago should have been in the entire fourth quarter. This shit will help us in the playoffs. Manu and TP will not fuck up again. This makes us hungry and opens our eyes. We can fucking beat legit teams in Denver and Portland without TD, so with TD we will be fine. Yes this lost hurts like a mother fucker, but its a learning lesson. This kind of shit doesn't happen a lot kind of like T-Mac going ape shit on us in the last minute. We are preparing for the playoffs, so calm down and keep the negative bullshit away. GO SPURS GO!

not un-calm. this is a veteran team and they will bounce back - if we have timmy it's not even close enough for this crap to occur.

but still...one of the worst finishes in team history. that's not debatable.

Yeah they are fine, they are always FINE! Up 5 with ten left, Tim out how long now? How many more? I am sure they are not fine, blew two in a row they should have won, another game on the road and then Portland again! We could be looking at 4 losses in a row because of this shyt here! If they won tonight cool but a monumental choke and a loss that hurts! This is nothing to just blow off, we are up 5 now, lose two more and guess what? LA is near us! Down 3 then! This shit hurts, sorry it is not a normal loss the Spurs are chokers in the worst way now.

I feel like worthless shit, but this is nothing like .4

This can happen four more times and we'll still be #1. Pop will make adjustments so it won't happen again.

It's up there. 0.4 will ALWAYS be the worst, most heart-breaking loss in Spurs history. Just the high I was on after Timmy made that unbelievable difficult shot over Shaq, there was no way in hell anyone would think we would lose that game, and we did. After that, I knew anything in the fucking NBA was possible. That and of course the damn 13 points in 35 seconds McGrady shit....

Lol Mcgrady 13 in 30 was definitely the worse 30 seconds. This rivals it though.

you can only do so much against a great player pulling up for 28 footers....

you can actually prevent dribbling off a guys foot or letting Andre Miller rip you clean....

It's a tossup for me between 0.4 and Manu's foul on Dirk. In both cases we were down big and fought our way back tooth and nail to finally deliver the killing blow... and we ended up losing in the most heartbreaking way. With 0.4 at least we had a chance to bring it back to SA. I don't know though... I don't do well with these types of losses. The only consolation is that this is the regular season, and we played great for almost the whole game.

How on earth can you compare this loss to playoff failures :lol

Man In Black

At least all 3 real key people were responsible for the loss. While the refs blew the travel call on Andre Miller on the play that led to the Nic Batum free throws and that they didn't check the replays to see if Manu actually touched the ball or not, with Tony going brain dead with a 4 point lead and using the dribble hand CLOSEST to the defender and then Manu going crossover to the front instead of playing the ball to the back like he tends to do, those 2 mistakes were the start to the debacle. When Matthews stole the ball, that was a legal play. His foot was planted and Manu dribbled off it, hence the funny bounce. And Pop. You have no size without Duncan, you need to match size with .9 seconds to go. The Spurs have some recent and memorable losses with lob plays to the rim in the final seconds. It should have been Jefferson on that last play to play the switch and defend Batum. With .9 seconds, the likelihood of the Blazers getting that clean a look on a jumper would have been harder than lobbing to a 6'8 jumping bean at the rim over either Parker, who was forced to switch since Manu cheated, or Manu, had he played the play correctly.

I'm bummed and pissed, but I think the Spurs still have the #1 seed locked up. I hope Tim is working really hard on the rehab. I think about now that he'd be in the middle of massage session pushing out any remaining swelling. It hurts like hell but it speeds up the process.

...Afterward, Ginobili compared Friday’s debacle to the 2005 loss to Houston, when Tracy McGrady scored 13 points in 33 seconds. Parker recalled Derek Fisher’s 0.4-shot to send the Lakers over the Spurs in Game 5 of the 2004 Western Conference finals.

“Nothing was worse than that,” Parker said.

Fisher 3pts in the final 0.4s one shoot It's hard on playoff game but winner shoot at the buzzer is "ordinary"

Batum 4 pts in the final 0.9s with 2 FT and one shoot (96-90 at 01:21) Very good play from Batum and I think the Spurs don't play during 1 minute

Tracy McGrady 13 pts in the final 35 seconds including a game-winning 3-pointer with 1.7 seconds (74-64 at 1:02) very great too!. I don't remember exactly but I think TD was on the floor.

An happy ending is to get a ring ! but I 'm glad for Portland. This is a good team and very unlucky with a lot of injured players.
I think is very good warning before the playoffs for the Spurs. It's not normal for a pro team to end a game like that. I don't know how you say in english but in french : « Il ne faut pas vendre la peau de l'ours avant de l'avoir tué »
perhaps "Don't count your chickens before they're hatched".

They were both bad but, as was shown in the video in another thread of the "McGrady Game", you can also actually prevent yourself (Devin Brown) from inexplicably falling down with 4.5 seconds left at your own end... giving the ball up for a last second game-winner.

I agree. We lost the last two games by two points each, because of OUR mistakes. It would be different if we had been blown out in both games because the other two teams had DOMINATED us, but that did not happen.
Be positive, Duncan is getting rest, Splitter and Novack are getting playing time, which is going to payoff come playoffs. Lets make are mistakes now and learn from this.

PS: What you imagine or think of will manifest. So think of these guys winning and SEE them holding up the championship trophy at the end.:lobt:
