Seems to me when Bonner is cold, why not sub Novak.
Neal and Novak seem to have the best shot on this time consistently.

I honestly cannot fathom why Novak has seen so little playing time especially 4th qtr where the Spurs have stumbled lately.

A few Novacaine 3's would suck the air outta the building and stop some of these late runs the Spurs seem powerless to stop the last few games.

Check Novak's 3G % as a Spur vs Matty's last 11 games.

It's about 60% vs 30%.

Bit of a skewed figure considering Novak mainly built that percentage on uncontested shots versus a team decimated by injuries.

Not really defending Bonner's heavy usage lately or shitting on the idea of giving Novak more burn, but we ask Bonner to do way more than Novak, and against stronger competition.

Novak cost us the game the other night in Portland by throwing away the inbounds pass with .09 on the clock... not exactly the kinda thing you want from somebody you're asking to play the 4th quarter of any game.....

Let him rot on the bench in the 4th qtrs of games.
If he gets any playing time at all it should be in the 2nd or 3rd qtr imo..

Dude, all he had to do is throw the damn ball to anybody on his team and we woulda had an overtime. Instead he gave away the game.

Big fail.

Novak with bonehead play in the crunch and pop crushed him !

Bonner is absolute disaster right now. I'm gonna start a thread today as I'm gonna get ready for the playoffs

You but that was another coaching wonder.
Novak didn't play at all until they stuck him in fer the inbounds.

Maybe just maybe if he'd gotten 12-15 minutes and scored a few tres that inbounds pass woulda looked a lot better.

And Novak's stroke just looks sweet when he shoots I only see Neal w/ the same kind of dead-eye shot consistently

Pop just trying different things before PO's - he wanted to know if Novak can work in pressure situations IMO

Not really. Pop drew the play for Manu to get the inbounds (check his interview), and the Blazers figured as much because it was the end of the game, so they were all over him. Novak tried to throw it away from traffic and... he did :bang

It happens

Pop doesn't bench a shooter because he is in a shooting slump. Bonner will continue to get consistent playing time even if his slump continues and even if it costs games to Spurs.

And frankly, that's as it should be.

Increasing the guy's minutes, on the other hand (especially when the match-up is disadvantageous) is hard to fathom.

Asking a stone cold Novak to inbound with 0.9 left was a huge coaching failure, putting him in a position to fail.

Actually he probably could have gotten away with throwing to a Trailblazer as well and the suprise would have burnt less than a second before they could call time out or hoist a shot which would have resulted in overtime.

Sure Novak fucked up that inbounds, but he should be put in better position to take advantage of his strength, shooting. Look at bonner sucking for last 11 games, averaging 27% from 3, playing classic bonner d, yet getting the most playing time out of our bigs in the last game. He get soooo many chances, its ridiculous, he can do no wrong, apparently. Novak messes up once, and he gets benched.

Still don't get the "coaching failure" stink about this.

1) Novak had the length to throw over/around his cover if he needed to.

2) Guy's a distance shooter, so it's not unimaginable that Pop would want somebody who is accustomed to hitting targets in the distance with a a basketball to try and thread the needle for a Manu layup/alley-oop.

3) Novak is a shooter. His whole game is to get thrown on the floor when he's stone cold and produce. He just happened to produce a fuck-up that night.

Well maybe there's a silver lining here somewhere.
Maybe Pop is seeing how Bonner responds to heavy minutes/pressure seeing as they have newer/cheaper signings that can do what he does shooting wise and his defense won't exactly be hard to replace.

Let loose Novak/Neal for the 3's and what do you really have Bonner for?

I don't hate Bonner I just don't see the logic of the extended minutes he's getting when you've got other talents that could probably do more w/ his minutes and getting them more minutes would only help increase the teams winning percentage as well as their integration into the system IMHO.
