Dirk 10 times out of 10.

Aldridge has played great this season though. I'd love him on my team. But between the two, it's easily Dirk.

The only pf even remotely deserving of being considered to be picked for any team over Dirk is Gasol, and that's only if there is already a clear number one guy in that team.

Aldridge easily for most teams in the league. Dirk's game has already started to fall off a bit, and will most likely free-fall within a couple of years like that of every other elite big man aside from Abdul-Jabbar and Karl Malone. Nowitzki would only make sense for a veteran team that's close and is in "Win Now or Bust" mode.

Right when I saw baseline posted I knew he was going to make an argument for Aldridge. No lie.

One would assume that this is about a player's overall ability now, so considerations about how Aldrige is younger shouldn't even be here. Sure if your team's plan is being in the lottery and planning to be good in a far far future you might want to pick Aldrige.

If not I would definitely say Aldridge, Dirk is still the better player yes but he is at the point of the downside of his career where as Aldrigde still has his prime to go.

Both players are beasts though.

Did any of the DB.comers say they'd take Roddy over Manu now or did they just say they'd take Roddy over Manu because of the future. I'm not trying to argue just curious. If a DB.comer thinks the Mavs are contenders then yeah it's retarded to say they'd Roddy over Manu when Manu can help a contending team A LOT more than Roddy can, however if it's a DB.comer who's given up on the present and wants to focus on the future, IMO saying they'd take Roddy over Manu makes sense.

DPG21920
03-28-2011, 03:14 PM
Doesn't really make sense either way, but they were talking about a combo of both. It's way more stupid than this :lol. LA is a lot closer to Dirk now than Roddy is to Manu. LA also wins the long term argument as well.

I agree completely. If we were to use the arrow argument (lol arrow argument), I'd only use 3-4 arrows comparing LA and Dirk, while using 10-12 arrows comparing Manu and Roddy.

My point was that if it's a DB.comer who's truly given up on his team (then again DB.comers never give up on their boys in blue) then yeah it would make sense not to trade Roddy for Manu, but if you were to think along those lines then you would also want Dirk traded for a young rebuilding package.

Maybe because of the injury to his knee this year? He turned it on the last games and will be good come PO-time.

He sure does not have the lifts anymore he had earlier, but his offensive game just gets better!

The zone is killing the defensive rebouding but Dirk is also regular season coasting in terms of rebounding. Watch him tune it up for the playoffs. He still owns most of the PF in playoff rebounding average

I agree that Dirk's defense and rebounding are lacking ...and although i think he is clutch there are times he falters or where you would prefer that he would not have to rely on one legged turn-around fade-aways ...as much as he does ... I get that. But Dirk is shooting around 52% on mostly 18 feet and out shots plus he seems to have re-gained some (not all) of his 3 point touch. Plus you cant foul him because he is money from the FT line and with his release point and height hard to block his shot. he is too quick for traditional big men and too tall for the better perimeter defenders. And although not a great post player if you go small he can back you down enough and shoot over those guys which is almost a "lay-up" the way he is shooting. I live in Dallas and dirk gets as much slack as anyone in this city not named Tony Romo or Jerry Jones ... but the guy is one of the best offensive forces in the NBA.
If you ask me whose style of play I prefer ...it's aldridge because I doubt David West would be able to play patty cake on Aldridges cheeks with no retaliation from lamarcus. But he was just as much as a jump-shooter as Dirk was ...except dirk does it better. If you take away the lob plays how much true paint points or post up score does Aldridge give you more than Dirk? LA shoots a lot of mid range jumpers too ...But Dirk is the better player even with the regression defensively and on the boards ...

2) Dirk Nowitzki: "We're all still buzzing about the Mavericks' championship march, but after a thorough inspection of Nowitzki's skills, he simply doesn't have enough of an all-around game to pry the top spot from Griffin."

Certainly in the next 2-3 years I expect Griffin to overtake Dirk but this is fucking stupid.

I read it differently. You said "win now or bust mode" and he was and they blew it up the next year. You also said "team of veterans" which he had (even though he had them at the time you posted that). So I saw it as a good take. No one knew Dirk was going to go 3rd Reich on the league.
