From The Daily Six Shooter (http://bit.ly/hZPiPe) at PlaymakerOnline.com (http://www.playmakeronline.com/):

Things have gone from bad to worse for the San Antonio Spurs. They’ve now lost three straight games for the first time this season after losing to the Memphis Grizzlies last night. But even worse, Manu Ginobili suffered a thigh contusion that kept him from playing most of the 2nd half and he’ll likely miss tonight’s game (http://blog.mysanantonio.com/spursnation/2011/03/27/contused-ginobili-uncertain-for-portland-game/) against the Portland Trailblazers.

You have to give the Spurs credit. They’ve valiantly rallied these past three games without Tim Duncan and had their chances against Memphis without Manu, but the losses still hurt and the schedule doesn’t get any easier any time soon. Their next three games are against Portland, Boston and Houston.

Once again, the Spurs fought hard and actually held a lead on Memphis with five minutes left in the game after being down the whole contest, but it slowly collapsed down the stretch and without Ginobili or Duncan giving them the ability to get into the paint or create, it came down to the Spurs once again settling for jump shots against one of the biggest teams in the league averaging the most points in the paint in the NBA. And that was a recipe for disaster. There are teams that this San Antonio team can beat without Duncan or Ginobili… it’s just that none are on the schedule and both players will likely be back before the Spurs get a chance to play any of those teams.

Ginobili’s injury shouldn’t keep him out very long, nor should it linger and hurt him come playoff time. But still, San Antonio is in a tough spot because with Ginobili being out, they’re down to just two players on the roster who can create their own offense off the dribble: Tony Parker and George Hill. The two don’t often play on the court together, but expect to see more of it until Ginobili is back to 100%.
