View Full Version : Parker and McDyess out vs Blazers

More injury news: Tony Parker (strained patella) and Antonio McDyess (bruised back) also won't play vs Portland.

Small correction: Tony Parker's patella is bruised, not strained.

I recall years ago Pop saying, in an interview, that he wanted a certain playoff seed, and depending on the other teams' seeding, he would be able to tell which position he wanted.

I will take a healthy squad over a home game any day of the week or weekend tbh, given those choices. We aren't going to win anything with limping players. A 1st or second round exit with a good show doesn't mean any more than a 1st or second round exit with blowouts, at least not for this team. We are not the Thunder, who are breaking new ground with playoff wins. We either win it all or it's pretty much "we had a great regular season".

Maybe we keep HCA for the playoffs, maybe not. It's going to be hard to keep it for the Finals however, since the Bulls are just a few back and doing pretty good. We will worry about that when we get there however.

I do recall I slightly different bench roster giving Denver hell at home a couple years back. Who knows?

Parker did grab at his leg and was slow to get up a few times in the past few games. Not to mention that his game revolves around taking hits and falls to the ground. Hopefully its nothing serious but it explains why Tony Parker looked terrible on the road trip.

Seems like Parker rushed coming back just for the sake of those French friends and kids but w/e.

How are injuries Pop's fault?

I don't like it one bit either, but the fact remains: having healthy players come playoff time is more important than having the first seed.

Sure, it would be a damn shame to lose it, all things being considered, but it would do us no good if the team is run into the ground to get it.

Resting the players may be a gamble, but I think the right call if they are hurt. Playoffs are right around the corner, and this is where that cushion, while quickly evaporating, is so important.

Agreed. And it's not just about having the number one seed, it's about how they'd lose it, if they lose it. It would be beyond demoralizing. It could potentially crush their psyche to the point where they're unable to recover and are eliminated earlier than expected.

With two days off after this, this game should have been about winning at all costs, repairing confidence and sending a message to the Trail Blazers and Grizzlies of the world. Not worrying about managing minutes or sitting key players out with paper cuts. Instead, they could easily be staring at a five game losing streak and potentially more and have to run their key players into the ground until game 82 to secure home court. They should be going hard now, in this next handful of games and trying to have it wrapped up going into that final back-to-back, so that the big three and McDyess can get a week off before the playoffs.

Uh, Parker had a monster third quarter and gave use the lead while Manu was out yesterday. Things are looking bleak right now, but I agree that resting the players/player healthy is more important than seeding.

Please. You don't think Parker and McDyess are fully capable of playing this game? You don't think Duncan and Ginobili wouldn't be playing if this were the playoffs? Why do the Spurs always think they have to pick one over the other?

The Lakers pick both and it always works out for them. I didn't see Bryant miss a game when he looked to have messed up his ankle. I didn't see them resting Odom when he had shoulder soreness earlier in the season. They're not resting Fisher now just because he's old. Are they paying for it now? But every time a Spur has a paper cut, they're out indefinitely.

The rest they need? They've played less than any other stars in the entire league. How much rest do they need? Why is it okay for the Lakers old ass core to continue to play heavy minutes and seemingly not feel the effects, but this team constantly get's the "they need rest" excuse?

I'm tired of the excuses. They need to all be playing next game and play until home court is wrapped up. I don't care how many minutes it takes. At this point, that shouldn't be priority. It isn't for any other team, why does this team always have to be different?

Surrendering home court in the fashion they'd do it, if it happens, could be damaging for their psyche. They need to rebuild their confidence by not only winning a few games, but beating a few credible teams. That should be the only priority at this point.
