That is absolutely uncalled for.

Ridiculous. Probably the result of some elected official or close friend thereof who got annoyed at kids playing basketball in the street.

I'm amazed that they can just drive up and pull a basketball hoop out of your property like that. I'm not sure how close to the sidewalk is considered your property, but the equipment is still the property of the homeowner. I'm not sure why they didn't pull it out of the ground and simply hand it over to the homeowner like they said they would. I like how careful the workers were with it, too. Public employees -- gotta love 'em.

It varies. Depends on things like jurisdiction, zoning, when your property got platted, etc. Something in the 5-10 foot range would be a good ballpark number.

I noted something the guy said. He sent letters but they didn't respond. That should have been a red flag right there. Any lawyer would tell you to send a certified letter. Maybe the other neighbors did, or were smart enough to get a court intervention. We only see one side. Now i agree there was no ethical reason to show up one day and remove the basketball courts. We all have to be vigilante to protect ourselves from such blatant authoritarianism.

I doubt the $unt in the hoody was Police. I'm thinking she's either DODT or HOA.

Agreed. Now I have a rather low view of police here in Portland, OR, but in this case, the police were carrying out their job. Unless I missed something, they remained pretty silent over the necessity. Don't blame the police here, but blame the DOT.

If she's not a pig, then she was impersonating one, claiming to be the lieutenant in charge, threatening to arrest them in the first person, and talking about the DDOT in the third.

http://www.ibtimes.com/articles/128288/20110329/deldot-delaware-state-police-mccafferty-basketball.htm

She was armed with a gun. When she first confronted McCafferty, she flashed the gun by pushing aside her sweatshirt and putting her hand on it. “She made sure I saw it,” said McCafferty. A disabled man with a cane, McCafferty said he felt threatened by the weapon.

Sounds like a cocksucking cop.

An important lesson: if a cop is talking to you, he's probably lying. The police are under no requirement to tell you the truth.

Don't talk to Dan like that, he makes six figures and posts on here all day........he's even been approached by advertisers to add to his posts....

Remember that Dan, when you lied to everyone about that? You delusional jackass.
