U thought u were gonna easily have HCA prior to ASB. Now a few slip-ups on your part and if L.A. manages to take care of business, the tables could turn drastically.. for the worse.. & now you're attempting to find the silver lining?
HELLO RETARD there isn't any.

This was supposed to be the stretch where you rest your ancient team. Now ur gonna be forced to play an ailing Duncan, and the other players extended minutes just to secure a seed that should of been secured weeks ago.

moot point, tbh

It was a brand new season after the all-star game and the team with the momentum finishing off this last part of the season is the one with the advantage.

Teams with great records post all-star break typically do not far well in the post-season.

The Lakers are peaking now, and it's still 2+ weeks before the playoffs begin.

They're going to dominate round 1, but as round 2 gets underway, you will see them start to slip up. They won't be able to stay hot over an extended period of time, it's just not how teams work, save the all-time great squads, which I would guess even Laker fans know that this is not one of them.

cheguevara
03-30-2011, 08:33 AM
it could go either way IMO.

For example the Celtics, they suck after star break and usually make the finals.

on the other hand, young teams like OKC/Bulls kick ass in the end but will suck in the playoffs.

Spurs/Celtics will be there this year.

LA, nobody knows. IMO once a team beats LA once in the playoffs, they will be in trouble. LA just doesn't have the confidence this year. That explains why they celebrate every win over a good team like they won a championship.

Predictions:
- OKC/Bulls will not keep this pace in the playoffs and struggle. Will eventually lose to a superior team
- Spurs/Celtics will both make at least the Conference Finals. Which means they will wake up in the playoffs compared to what they are doing now.
- LA has no real confidence. They celebrate each regular win like they won a playoff series. This is why once a team gives them trouble in the playoffs, they will fold like tissue

WAt the end of the day though, we have wrapped up the West and even if we lose all of our games, the Lakers are just going to tie us for the best record.

If the Lakers and Spurs end up with the same record, playoff tiebreakers:

1. Division leader: both division leaders, go to next tiebreaker
2. Head-to-head: Spurs lead 2-1 with one game remaining, if Lakers win last match-up, go to next tiebreaker
3. Division W-L%: Lakers currently 11-3 in division, 2 remaining @ Golden State, @ Sacramento, Spurs currently 10-5, 1 remaining @ Houston (Spurs must win @ Houston and Lakers lose to both Warriors and Kings to tie and go to next tiebreaker or Lakers get first seed)
4. Conference W-L%: Spurs 35-11 (6 remaining), Lakers 32-11 (9 remaining), this one should decide it, if not the third tiebreaker doesn't

Probably should be decided by that, if not, the rest of the tiebreakers:

5. W-L% versus playoff teams in Western Conference
6. W-L% versus playoff teams in Eastern Conference
7. Total points

Hypothetically, let's say Spurs finish 5-3 the rest of the way. The Lakers would have to win out their last 9 games, which would obviously include beating the Spurs and winning their last two division games against the Warriors and Kings. Spurs and Lakers would have the same record but the Lakers would take the third tiebreaker. The one thing the Lakers have to do to have a chance (without finishing with the outright better overall record) is beat the Spurs in their last match-up). That will give them a chance. Certainly not easy for the Lakers to pull it off. They'll still need help from the Spurs. But it's possible.

As for "peaking," the 07 Spurs, 06 Heat, 04 Pistons, 03 Spurs, 01 Lakers, and 00 Lakers were all a lot better after the break than before.

Man, seems like this board just lets people make stuff up.

Let's get the facts straight.

Before this Lakers team, 4 others have gone on to win 15-1 since the All-Star Break. The Lakers are the 5th.

3 of the 4 won the championship. Detroit in 1989-90, Chicago in 1990-91 and the Lakers in 1999-2000 (Phil Jackson’s first Lakers season).

The fourth that didn't got to the finals. The Jazz in 97-98.

This doesn't mean a thing in the grand scheme of things but at least, you know have facts. But then again, this is ST. The bastion of the ill-informed.
