He's coming. That's the two-word update Rockstar Games has for fans waiting for word on Max Payne 3. The studio posted the message on its Twitter account this morning along with two screenshots -- a clear sign the long-in-development shooter is finally nearing release.

Originally set for release in 2009 and thrice delayed, Max Payne 3 is being developed by Rockstar Vancouver (Bully) and will feature an older, more cynical Max living in Brazil's largest city, Sao Paulo. Here are the images Rockstar had to share today:

Rockstar has put its substantial weight behind the launch of crime thriller L.A. Noire, which is set for release in May. Given today's blurb, it appears the publisher will set its sights on Max Payne 3 once L.A. Noire is out the door.

Max Payne 3 is being developed for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Windows PCs. The game's release date remains TBA.

were they behind 2 and 1? i dont' recall seeing their logo on those games..

they were not. Hopefully they don't fuck it up. Max Payne is easily one of the best gaming franchises ever.

Remedy Entertainment was the developer for 1 and 2.

lol yea that's what i was hoping when i asked.. i remember playing the first one and liking it but it was missing something.. then 2 was a total miss.. rockstar has a good track record so here's to hoping.. :D

yeah the people that did alan wake did max payne. if you played wake youd see why. im sort of conflicted with this news. its cool but i only care about gta 5. its a rumor but suggests it will be in la again. cant wait to play that.

It wont be called GTA 5. GTA 5 would be for the next console.

Eh... I'm much more interested in a Red Dead sequel than another GTA.

just saw the Max Payne movie the other day. granted it's been a LONG while since playing the game, but I don't think they did too bad a job, especially compared to other movies based on games. Sax was terribly miscast...
