From The Daily Six Shooter (http://bit.ly/hjtGAt) at PlaymakerOnline.com (http://www.playmakeronline.com/):

In the Houston Rockets playoff watch, many continue to write off the Rockets in the playoff race, but today is another big day after Houston beat the New Jersey Nets 112-87 last night.

It was an important win considering that Houston has to play the 2nd game of a back-to-back set tonight against the Philadelphia 76ers. Luckily, the two cities are very close (“You could spit on Jersey from Philly” as a friend told me recently) and Houston was able to rest their starters for most of the 4th quarter in the rout.

Kyle Lowry would have likely tallied another triple double (16 points, 10 assists, 7 rebounds) if he had played more than 29 minutes. Kevin Martin also had an impressive 20 point showing, including putting down the NBA’s coveted “Assist of the Night” (http://www.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nba.com%2Fvideo%2Fchannel s%2Ftop_plays%2F2011%2F03%2F29%2F20110329_aotn.nba&h=f5a89) when Courtney Lee tossed him a nice alley-oop on a fast break.

Pay no attention to the “games back” stats that so many media outlets decide to site when talking about Houston’s playoff chances. All that matters is the loss column. Right now, the Rockets have two more losses than the Memphis Grizzlies and three more than the New Orleans Hornets. That’s why tonight is a big night, as all three teams are in action. Houston plays in Philadelphia, New Orleans hosts the red hot Portland Trailblazers, and Memphis hosts the Golden State Warriors. Sadly, the Rockets are the only road team amongst those involved in the playoff race, but a win plus a loss by either team would mean a great deal. A Trailblazers win would probably mean more considering the Hornets schedule, which includes a matchup against Houston next week. So keep your eyes on the scoreboard.
