At the time, this seemed like an incredible show of hubris by Tim Duncan regarding the Heat.
A little probing into the situation revealed that Tim wasn't talking about the blowout they were administering on Miami. He was referencing a discussion/contest the team had been having, regarding who was the best three-point shooter.
After Bonner had just drained another three, Duncan declared the jury was out. "Game Over"
Since that time, Matt Bonner (at that time, like a season 52% 3pt shooter) has gone 12/48 from behind the arc, for a paltry 25%.
For most players, a bad-shooting streak wouldn't be so much of a concern. But Bonner effectively becomes a liability when he is not hitting his three; all that is left is long rebounds and bad defense.
Coincidence? Perhaps.
But something to consider for those of you who don't believe in superstition.
