Parsons talked about his workout with Spurs:
http://www.onlygators.com/06/01/2011/chandler-parsons-%E2%80%93-path-to-the-2011-nba-draft-first-week-of-workouts-begins-in-miami/

I had my workout with the San Antonio Spurs on Friday, so I left for Texas on Thursday. It went really well. Out of all my workouts so far, I think that was the best. I shot the ball really well, competed really well. It was me, DeAndre Liggins from Kentucky and Nikola Vucevic from Southern Cal against Marcus Morris (of Kansas), Iman Shelpert from Georgia Tech and Jimmy Butler from Marquette. We won every game, went 5-0 in the three-on-three games and [I] really shot the ball well. I had the best shooting numbers there and just really thought I played all-around great that workout.

Each workout is very similar in the stuff we do, but some teams keep you longer and others do more stuff. You basically stretch, play a lot of one-on-one, two-on-two and three-on-three – a lot of competitive stuff. In San Antonio, we played three-on-three but you can’t dribble, then three-on-three with one dribble, then three-on-three unlimited dribbles. There’s a lot of spot shooting, on-the-move shooting and things like that.

My Oklahoma City [workout] was only 45 minutes, but the San Antonio one was double that.

From his highlights, this kid looks like he knows what his role is, & with Pop's coaching, it seems like this kid would be a great back-up SF. I'd be stoked if the Spurs take him in the draft.

As bad as Richard Jefferson is, I could very well see Parson taking the starting spot. That's just how bad the situation is. They both seem to think they're models though.

I think he is a sleeper in this draft. He isn't one of those players who has an abundance of athleticism and thus solely relies on that. Instead he takes his limited abilities and hones them. He could be a great fit for the Spurs. He would give us a Robert Horry sized SF, something we desperately need. Also, his FT shooting is already on par with what we have grown to expect from the Spurs.

If he is available at the end of the 2nd round....then I would not mind if we threw our pick his way.

6'10" caucasian shooter from FL? Aren't we trying to get RID of one of those?

Amen.

Enough with the unathletic, one-dimensional shooters.

Can we get some player with athleticism, length and size?

if drafting him means that Bonner is traded, I'm all for it.

Even his t-rex arms and lackluster verts wouldn't sway me if it meant no more Bonner.

If the Spurs are looking for backup SFs, they should get one who EXCELS at defense. Anything else the kid can do, gravy.

i like parsons. i def wouldn't mind the spurs going after him, i just don't know if they should go after him at 29.

I'd be much happier if we had a pick early in the 2nd to use on this kid

Spurs rumored to be very high on him. May be moving into the top of our board.

this guy fits the scheme. Willing to play defense, rebound and hustle. Has just enough athleticsm to make a difference...

God, I pray that Tyler Honeycutt will be available - because he's a better player AND it will prevent the Spurs from wasting a pick on this guy.

+1

I'm not high on Tyler anyymore he is around my 5th possible choice, but he has way more upside then Parsons.

I like Parsons - he has length, can play defense somewhat and can hit the 3 at times. I think a player who's good at lots of things (while not being really great at any one thing) can learn to be solid or even elite at at least one skill. Popovich and crew can teach him defense. If he were to excel at that (somewhere in the area Ronnie Brewer level of D), then the Spurs could really benefit.

Keep the Spurs "model" in mind when thinking about draft picks - a speedy scoring PG, an attacking SG, a defensive (otherwise negligble offensively) SF, shot blocking threat PF who can rebound and score and a defensive center.

We have the PG and SG but lack the other 3 (jury's still out on whether Splitter can be that PF).

Unless there is a trade of some sort I do not expect the spurs to draft this kid..

Better player how? While I am not in love with Parsons, he does fit the spurs mold of player and has good size for a SF. To me hes a very poor mans L.Odom.

Lamar Odom my ass. I believe that's just run-of-the-mill scouting comparision hyperbole. When this kid can pull the ball off the rim, dribble through traffic with the handles of a PG, and take it coast-to-coast, to the rack, let me know.

Honeycutt and Parsons are both rumored to be good shooters, both are good passers with seemingly high BBIQs. The quality that sets Honeycutt way apart is that he's athletic and has the ability to defend. Some think he has the potential to eventually be a lockdown perimeter defender. In my mind, that clearly makes him the better player.

I don't have anything against Parsons. I just don't see the need in adding yet another one-dimensional player, who is also poor defender, to a roster that has too many of the same.

At some point Pop has to quit talking about getting better defensively and start adding players that can be developed toward achieving that end.

Spurs were to have him and Singler work out against each other dont know if thats happened yet, so if that tells you anything we may see another slow footed white boy at the 3 next year.

God help us all, if that happens. I'm almost ready to "blow a gasket" just thinking of what a mistake that would be. However, I"ll hold off until Thursday.

"Poor man's Lamar Odom" seems pretty descriptive. He certainly doesn't have Odom's strong talent but he does have the same basket of skills. Accurate.

yeah i don't see us taking him with 29, but dude if we had a pick in the early second round I'd be all about this kid. think he will have a solid NBA career.

Tyrone Jenkins
06-18-2011, 09:28 PM
What kind of player does anyone think will be available at 29? Another Duncan or Robinson?

Think of a 29th pick as DEFENSIVE only. Someone to come in and play the Bruce Bowen role. If he happens to score, great. Bonus really. The 29th pick the Spurs get needs to be somone 6'8" or taller, can play perimeter defense WELL, can guard the PF position in a pinch (whenever Pop wants to play small ball) but most importantly, someone who understands his role and isn't some egotistical player who will want/demand tons of $ in his 2nd contract. Someone who embraces a defensive minded philosophy and wants to be a part of a team for a long time.

Is that Singler? Parsons? Honeycut? Who knows but whoever they pick, they need to fit the description above...

You can change my posts if you want to, but there is one thing that won't change...everyone that has posted in this forum over the past couple of drafts knows you are full of shit...from your make believe Dr. wife to your make believe job. Your predictions failed horribly last year and you were busted in lies several times. So you just keep re-upping that ESPN insider access so you can keep posting predictions from failures like Chad Ford to convince the gnsf's around here that you are something more than a well manufactured troll.

So, the discussion about Chandler Parsons has turned into this...two adolescent, school yard, name calling guys trying desperately to validate their opinions about the Spurs.

I must say, some it is fairly entertaining but for the most part, I'd just like to hear what other people think about Parsons and his fit w/ the team.
