Why do politicians so easily get away with telling lies? In large part, because the news media are more interested in bonding with politicians than in exposing them. Americans are encouraged to believe that the media will serve as a check and a balance on the government. Instead, the press too often volunteer as unpaid pimps, helping politicians deceive the public.

The M$M ultimately serves the very same people who lobby Washington if you follow the money trail....there is no investigative journalism anymore...remember when 60 minutes and ABC used to bust crooked politicians on TV? Huge ratings, but those days are gone....now investigations on Washington are killed before they ever get started...

Bovard is many years late in his observation, but thanks anyway.
"In order to recognize government deceit, there is no substitute for more citizens to make more effort to find the truth for themselves."
(idiomatic, mother-tongue) English, motherfucker, do you speak it?
Using the infinitive instead of the gerundive is a common mistake by non-native speakers of English.
how about:
"there is no substitute for more citizens discovering the truth"
Will Bovard's next article give specific, practical advice for "more citizens making more effort to find the truth for themselves"
eg, how does Bovard "find the truth"?
He seems to be a full time writer (but can't afford a professionally designed web site), so I guess he has the time to "find the truth" not delivered by MSM.
If his first self-discovered "truth" is that government and corporate media are lying to us, he needs to keep looking. :)
How about something truly truth-exposing-ly heroic like Assange or Manning?

"now investigations on Washington are killed before they ever get started"
lack of transparency in general,
FOIA requests denied/gutted/exorbitantly expensive, (I wouldn't be surprised if FOAI request make the requester a target of govt "interest")
dickhead reclassifying millions of documents that were in the public domain for years,
little or no whistelblower protections.
The govt + media has made Wikileaks exposes all about Manning and Assange to distract from the contents of the exposures.

He's been making such observations for a long time.

One cannot have a valid point without "heroic" action?

so why post this very old, well-known "truth"?
straw man, I didn't say truth-exposing HAD to be heroic, but I expect Bovard to be a heroic discoverer of truth, and oops!, get attention from his lying media, on the level of Manning and Assange, if he he really wanted to sell books.

Why not? Does the purple monkey which only you see demand articles published within the prior 24 hours?

That was the implication. I'm sure his book sales are just fine.
Oh, Gee!!

Love how the article leads with a dogwhistle attack on FDR and Clinton, which no doubt tweaked Cuntybollock's interest. If you want a more intelligent & nuanced exploration of the relationship of the corporate media (notice how the article avoided capital's role this equation in favor of the L-word as the magic solution to everything) and the government, you'll of course would want to read Glenn Greenwald and not this glibertarian hack.

He's been making such observations for a long time.
Many of us conservatives have been complaining about the media bias for years. What's new?

notice how the article avoided capital's role this equation...Perhaps you will be so kind as to fill the gap.

"Many of us conservatives have been complaining about the media bias for years"
the difference is the VRWC has been lying that there has been a lefty bias, when in fact the bias is totally right-wing, pro-corporate (Fawning CORPORATE Media), anti-citizen, pro-Establishment/conservative bias.
eg: name the mainstream media which had the balls to stand up and call out Repug lies and bullying intimidation leading up to the invasion of Iraq-for-oil.

Naturally Capt Pedophile of Thailand would find any article which did not fellate Messrs. Roosevelt and Clinton objectionable.
