Dude has legit size, shooting touch, athleticism, even some ball-handling skills as a 7 footer, but no brain.
Fucking waste of body. This dude with Bonner's mindset would be an all-star for the next 10 years.

Think the Spurs have given up on Richards. Sad, what a waste.

He's now in the Lebanese league. I think that's a step forward. Look at all the nba players they've developed.

Ryan Richards is playing as the 6th man for the defending champions Overseas Elite in The Tournament.
Overseas Elite is in the Sweet 16.

What a sad case. He had all the tools needed to have a decent enough NBA career. Heck, now the Spurs need bigs, and if he had just been marginally normal in his career path he could have had a 2 year min deal. And if he had kept his head long enough, after that would have been $$$$$$$$. Sad.

I've never thought about it from an economic standpoint. But you are absolutely right. He'd be set for life. Hell, set for several lives

Lol that 2010 draft, James Anderson and Ryan Richards were total failures.

Will say that there wasn't anyone obviously better than Anderson at that spot. There's a bunch of fringe guys or worse until Whiteside, who busted his first time around. I'll never, ever regret the team drafting Anderson, though. Dude convinced the team to get both Kawhi and Green, and them not going for a PG meant they went for Joseph and Mills later on.

Some fellows don't remember but James Anderson was easily BPA with that 20th pick. Best shooter in the draft, BIG 12 player of the year. Spurs was a bit unlucky in the draft. All the decent names that we know now were gone just 1 pick before the Spurs pick. Bledsoe, Bradley, Seraphin, etc.
Take the 40 guys taken after James in that draft and there are only 5 players still playing in the NBA and only 1 guy is a starting material player (Whiteside, who took many years to finally develop). That draft had very good value in lottery. Not so much after.

Can you imagine though? I don't remember the scouting on Bledsoe and Bradley back then but I wonder if the Spurs had them on the board before Anderson.

Kinda doubting it. The Spurs had needed a young wing for years, and a Elemento pointed out, Anderson did check the boxes. Now, he had red flags, too. But I think people were expecting him to be like a 15ppg player in the NBA, and his D that first looked really good.

Bradley would have been ideal plus I'm sure we had good intel on him being from UT but I don't know if PATFO were looking at a guard? We still had George Hill and Roger Mason at the time. Anderson was a fine pick given what was available. Like others have said, Whiteside and Stephenson are the names that stick out that went after him and both were headcases who took years to develop.

Anderson was only just quick enough to be an effective NBA player and looked good the first handful of games he played. Once he broke his foot, he seemed like he never recovered.

at any point since Richards was drafted, i would have rather had him on the spurs roster than bonner.

Is he really the worst basketball player you've seen?? NO........ There is something else going on with him that isn't skill related.

The guy has talent so my guess it's either drugs or mental illness. Or maybe he has the Bosa syndrome. Lol

The team is actually playing in the Adriatic League. That's a much higher level of competition compared to his previous teams.
I only follow Sportando to get these biannual Ryan Richards updates:

This marks the third time that he is joining this team.
