EL SEGUNDO, Calif. -- When looking ahead to Tuesday night's game against the San Antonio Spurs, Los Angeles Lakers head coach Phil Jackson said that the Spurs have a much deeper team than the Lakers.

More on the Lakers

For more news, notes and analysis of the Lakers, check out the Land O' Lakers blog from the Kamenetzky Brothers. Blog

The bench disparity could be even bleaker for the Lakers after Steve Blake did not make it to shootaround on Tuesday because of an illness.

The team announced later Tuesday afternoon that Blake has chicken pox and would not play Tuesday; beyond that, he is out indefinitely.

Also, Matt Barnes has been added to the injury list with a sore right knee and a decision about his playing status would be made before the game.

Blake did not practice on Monday because of a fever. The back-up point guard is averaging four points and 2.2 assists in 20 minutes per game this season. Blake scored nine points and made all three of his 3-point attempts in his last game Sunday against Oklahoma City.

I'm gonna fucking laugh my ass off when he comes back in the playoffs with all those scars. But apparently, the chicken pox are much more dangerous in adulthood as opposed to when you're a child. So get well.

Even more of a problem is that people who get chicken pox as an adult have a much higher incidence of shingles later in life. They are extremely painful.

Overprotective parents who didn't allow them to get it as a child. He probably has a kid himself that got it from school and passed it along to him.

getting Chickenpox as an adult is some serious shit...

Glad I got it in the 3rd grade.

Chickenpox complications are more likely to occur in adults than in children. Despite the fact that adults account for only 5 percent of chickenpox cases per year, they account for a disproportionate number of deaths (55 percent) and hospitalizations (33 percent) compared to children.

Most complications of adult chickenpox are caused by an infection from bacteria. These bacteria can cause chickenpox complications that include:

•Skin or soft tissue infections
•Pneumonia (usually more severe in adults, as well as children over 13 years old)
•Bone infections (osteomyelitis)
•Joint infections (septic arthritis)
•Toxic shock syndrome.

Other serious adult chickenpox complications directly related to the chickenpox virus can include:

•Infection of the brain (encephalitis)
•Bleeding problems
•Cerebellar ataxia.

No way, if Luke hasn't had the chicken pox yet then it's pretty much guaranteed he'll transfer it to Dick if he hasn't had it yet either (They meet up every time LA comes to town no joke), then Dick would contaminate the entire Spurs team.

The crazy thing is that there are quite a few players on the roster who have been exposed to Blake. (You're contagious for a few days before the pox show.) What's of more concern is that some of these guys don't know if they've ever had Chicken Pox before.

Confirmed...Andrew Bynum has never had the Chicken Pox. Ron Artest isn't sure if he's ever had the Chicken Pox. They could have been exposed. :lmao

Also, just because you have had it before, doesn't ensure that you won't get a case of shingles. The pox stays with you forever but stays dormant, unless there is something that affects it, then it flames up and hurts like hell.

David Robinson had Shingles a few times during his days with the Spurs. I seem to recall he had it one time during a Spurs playoff run.

Magic Johnson also had Shingles during the season opener in 1985.

Kobe Bryant, Ron Artest, and Andrew Bynum have never had the Chicken Pox. They could have been exposed. Laker Reporter was actually reporting this as a good thing but was then told by his producer to say,"Let's just hope they had their shots."
It's that contagious.

Steve Blake is a Deep Cover Covert Sleeper Agent sent by both The Portland Trail Blazers and The Los Angeles Clippers on a mission to infiltrate the most powerful organization in the NBA and take them down from the inside.

Three Lakers haven't had chicken pox: Bryant, Bynum and Artest (http://lakersblog.latimes.com/lakersblog/2011/04/three-lakers-havent-had-chicken-pox-bryant-bynum-and-artest.html)
Mike Bresnahan
LA Times

Steve Blake has chicken pox. The Lakers hope he's the only one who gets it.

Kobe Bryant, Andrew Bynum and Ron Artest have never had the contagious illness. It takes about two weeks for signs to show. It was not immediately clear if they have had vaccines for the illness.

The rest of the Lakers have had chicken pox. It is rare for people to get the illness if they've already had it.

Blake, a reserve guard, was diagnosed Tuesday and will miss one to two weeks. He did not play Tuesday against San Antonio. He had a fever Monday and sat in with the team on a video session.

His wife, Kristen, provided some background on his condition with some updates on her Twitter account.

"And before anyone asks NO my kids didn't give it to him," she wrote. "They were vaccinated and are healthy. No clue where or how Steve got chicken pox.... I'll have him healthy and back in no time."

The Blakes have three young sons.
