Pretty horrible night.

I've never seen a team as lucky as the lakers. It's uncanny. I really can't believe after this awesome season this is how it ends up.

This will be the toughest path to the trophy the spurs have ever had. Sucks

Fuck.

Of course he has a sling. Nothing to freak out about. Sling allows less stress on the arm providing a quicker recovery.

What if the arm is detached and he's just using the sling to tote it around?

Looks like Stern returned the favor for the Spurs sleeping on the plane that 1 day.

The Sling...that's exactly the right way to play it even if it's a minor hyper-extension. You do that to keep your arm in a protected position. It's actually pretty easy to hurt yourself more when left unhindered.

I agree. Even if they are 90 percent sure there's no damage, they'd make him immobilize it pending the MRI.

...“He’ll be fine,” said Parker, a sentiment echoed by a handful of teammates, it should be noted, who also do not own medical degrees.

...“If he isn’t able to play in the playoffs, it’s going to be devastating for us,” McDyess said.

...“Luckily, it’s not serious,” Duncan said. “Hopefully, he can be ready to go once the playoffs start. You cross your fingers and hope for that.”

Assuming a minor injury demanding 1 to 1 1/2 weeks to recover the best plan would be to not play him for Game 1 and play him or not according to the result. If we win game 1 without him I don't see Pop rushing him even a bit. It's not like he comes out of rhythm or something.. We can win a game at home against Memphis without Manu.

It doesn't matter if he plays the first game at home or not. This team has to win in 4 games against Memphis. Because OKC will win in 4 or 5 at most, and we need at least the same rest as them, Parker, Hill, Duncan and Jefferson better carry the team to a victory for good.

On Manu’s injury and playoff seeding (http://www.48minutesofhell.com/)
by Timothy Varner
48 Minutes of Hell

Maybe a coach does know his team best.

Gregg Popovich is always reluctant to play his stars in meaningless games. Injuries happen. Injuries derail seasons. Injuries suffocate championship hopes. And significant injuries on the last night of the regular season? They’re crushing. In those cases the isolated meaninglessness of a single game retroactively infects everything that came before.

Nothing that we don't really know here. Just news off the RotoWire:

Manu Ginobili: (Elbow) MRI Lined Up - 4/14/2011 6:33:24 AM

Update:
Ginobili suffered a hyperextended right elbow during the first quarter of Wednesday's regular season finale, according to the San Antonio Express-News.

Recommendation:
Ginobili will undergo an MRI on his elbow on Thursday, though x-rays were negative. This should not be considered a serious injury, but Manu could miss the beginning of the team's opening round series against Memphis.

man i was at niosa the first freaking game i didnt watch this year... and what happens? i get a text while i was talking to some very lovely niosa girls i saw "manus hurt bro" i said SHIT MANUS HURT! and no joke about 15 people asked me what happened?!!! no!

good news from what i got out of the injury

when manu's arm got caught in the pick he was very lucky that his whole hand didnt get caught on timmy instead it was his fingers so that gave some leeway/ play as his elbow got hyperextended.. we would be done if his palm would have been caught with timmy.. this is why i honestly believe this is the best case scenario for manu if were talking about injuries ( ankle =done) even if this was his left elbow, but this is the least important limb (4 manu) ill take this over an ankle injury anyday!

If MRI does show ligament damage or tear, that could be trouble.

From those who know things: If Manu's MRI shows no ligament damage or tear, it's likely he plays in some (or all) of Memphis series ...

If it's a simple hyperextension, playoff sked helps immensely. If he skips Game 1, he'll have full week to heal. Enough for Kirk Hinrich.

But anyways, let's hope Manu's agony was mostly due to being scared and mad. Going into the game, Manu's main goal was to avoid injury. To go down within a couple minutes had to be frustrating, to say the least.

Wow, 4 years for $16 million and he is driving a Grand Am. I would think with an 8 figure contract he could afford to allocate a little more than a few hundred per month on the vehicle budget.[/QUOTE]

04-14-2011, 03:41 PM
The results are likely to be ambiguous. It's unlikely they're going to say he's perfectly fine and it's also unlikely they'll say he's out for the playoffs.

Even if he was done for the year, the team could easily call it game to game at first to avoid panic. Holt still needs to fill seats and sell hot dogs. Just saying.

The only truth will be when Manu first tries to play and we see how he does.

Yup, i was thinking it was going to be a strain. I'm guessing a sprained elbow isn't as bad as a sprained ankle basketball-wise. Especially to a guy who's left handed. I say he's back for game 3 in Memphis.

Creation88

a sprain is a tear in the ligament (in medical terms i believe), if it's mild he could be back soon if it's severe he's done.

Sprain Severity

* Grade I Sprain: A grade I (mild) sprain causes overstretching or slight tearing of the ligaments with no joint instability. A person with a mild sprain usually experiences minimal pain, swelling, and little or no loss of functional ability. Bruising is absent or slight, and the person is usually able to put weight on the affected joint.
* Grade II Sprain: A grade II (moderate) sprain causes partial tearing of the ligament and is characterized by bruising, moderate pain, and swelling. A person with a moderate sprain usually has some difficulty putting weight on the affected joint and experiences some loss of function. An x-ray or MRI may be needed.
* Grade III Sprain: A grade III (severe) sprain results in a complete tear or rupture a ligament. Pain, swelling, and bruising are usually severe, and the patient is unable to put weight on the joint. An x-ray is usually taken to rule out a broken bone. This type of a muscle sprain often requires immobilization and possibly surgery. It can also increase the risk of an athlete having future muscles sprains in that area.

Manu Ginobili Doubtful For Game 1

http://www.nba.com/spurs/sites/spurs/files/imagecache/story_page_standard_image/manu_ginobili.jpg

SAN ANTONIO (April 14, 2011) - Spurs guard Manu Ginobili had an MRI earlier today in San Antonio. The MRI showed that he has a right elbow sprain. The injury occurred in the first quarter of last night’s Spurs-Suns game. Ginobili has already begun his rehabilitation process and will be listed as doubtful for Game 1 of the Spurs-Grizzlies series, which is scheduled for noon on Sunday at the AT&T Center.

Manu is going to play. ;)

I will be quite surprised if this happens. The Spurs are historically conservative on bringing players back from injury. The last thing they want to do is get him re-injured. Besides, Neal and now Green are playing very well, and got a lot of minutes in the last 2 games, so they're tuned up and ready to go. Or, they could play Hill and Parker together, but then Chris Quinn would have to be the PG backup... don't know if they're ready to go that way.

Clearly they do not approach the all-star level of Manu's play, so Tim and Tony will need to step up, but I think they can pull it off for game 1.

Then Manu will get a full 5 days of rehab under his belt (already started today -- which is a great sign).

It doesn't matter if he plays in Game 1 or not. I mean, the Spurs only have a 10% chance of winning anyway...noon game...national TV. ;)

I thought that only applied when they play an afternoon game on ABC or ESPN.

Thankfully this is going to be a TNT broadcast. They have better luck there.
