Toronto's Epitome Pictures are developing a big screen feature based on CTV's high school teen series "Degrassi: The Next Generation" says the Hollywood North Report.

Kevin "Jersey Girl" Smith is tapped to direct for a late August shoot in Toronto. Smith recently appeared on the series alongside Jay And Silent Bob sidekick Jason Mewes.

The series was removed from the broadcast schedule of publicly-funded PBS network, following complaints from citizen's rights groups objecting to the series' realistic portrayals of teens involved with drugs, sex and rock 'n roll.

Two "Degrassi: TNG" books and a TV doc are currently in the works, with the fifth season now prepping for Toronto production. The show airs in the US, UK, Australia and France.

The man goes from shooting cult classics to softcore porn for teens. :lol

I'm Canadian...and the Degrassi series of shows were excellent....not teen porn...but clearly depicted teen angst and troubles more accurately than most shows of its generation. I do agree for Kevin Smith....he's digressing...doing Passion of the Clerks and now this...sad day really.

The guy made movies that then became (for whatever reason) clut classics.

Also, my sister always watches that show on Noggin, and trust me, Degrassi is not teen softcore porn.

Undressed on MTV was teen softcore porn.

LOL!!! LOL!!!!! LOL!!!!!!! :lol :lol :lol :lol

Mookie2001 and i used to watch Degrassi TNG like 2 summers ago, back in 2002 and 2003

He got all the expensive channels for free due to a cable glitch and we used to get really really *STUFFED* and watch that show....

Its soooo funny you guys...its set in Canada, where the grass is greener, and the kids have like normal teenage problems but with a Canadian twist..

Like instead of running away to "the city" they always run away to "Montreal" etc etc

And i can't believe Kevin Smith is involved in something so juvenile, can you say SELL OUT?????

Jay And Silent Bob were guest stars on Degrassi TNG???? Thats so weird

I bet the storyline had them in B.C. to get some mad *STUFF* and they run into the Degrassi Gang who are in the midst of a dancing competition where the half black guy has a red vest and moon walks to a fake michael jackson track

No question about it. With the exception of Will Ferrell, the movie sucked. Rather than sending two iconic characters in any kind of decent fashion they spent two hours walking through stupid ass inside jokes. It might as well be a full length version of the Chris Farley show on SNL.

"Hey, Silent Bob, remember how we did that movie 'Clerks' and now we have the guys from 'Clerks' in this film too. That was awesome."

:rolleyes Maybe if you were cool enough to know the inside jokes, you'd enjoy the movie. You must be gay to not enjoy Salma Hayek as a stripper. I assume you think you're too high class to enjoy just some dumb humor.

Kevin Smith is probably one of the directors that everybody is on his nuts, but I've never bought into his hype. None of his movies have interested me in the least.

Since you still owe Jim, I would hope that you weren't spending money on any movies, not just Kevin Smith's! :lol

Grrrr :pctoss Every time I tell some one that I didn't like the movie the first thing they say is, "Well, have you seen his other movies? Because otherwise you won't get the jokes."

Yes, I've seen the damn movies, and I've liked them alot. Dogma is probably one of my favorite movies of all time. "Jay and Silent Bob" has the same phenomena that "The Phantom Menace" had. The movie wasn't good but the die hard fans who were so excited about have deluded themselves into thinking it was great, rather than admitting that maybe George Lucas/Kevin Smith should have let sleeping dogs lie.

Dogma was/is/always will be the best Smith movie. I didn't like Silent that much either. It had its moments, but eh, not nearly as good as Mall Rats, Clerks, and Dogma.

My favorite Smith movie is "Chasing Amy", but thats probably because I have a crush on Joey Lauren Adams.

I don't know about a coolness factor in order to "get" a movie. WGAShit! Kevin Smith has gone to shit. Period.
