So they jack up the mental capacity of a lab animal for science to repair brain damage and it turns around to destroy them. They took an old film franchise and remade Deep Blue Sea.

I know James Franco is the golden boy at the moment, but actors should start becoming hazed for even attempting to leach off once great franchises. I heard they are going to remake the 3 stooges looomao, enough already Hollywood.

it looks pretty cool. lost count of how many times i've said that about a trailer though.

as someone brought up, it's basically deep blue sea with apes. deep blue sea was bad ass though, bad ass for how bad it was, but still bad ass.

:lmao people, are you serious? First off the cgi monkeys look just as goofy as Jumanji. I also love how there's all these revolutionary scientists in their 20s. And of course there's the black guy who's always obviously bitter about something like the experiment or cure or whatever and who obviously dies a very dramatic way. And the very end of the trailer was just more annoying than funny with the dramatic look chimp, fuckin stupid

And I'm not the one to get all pissy about all these sequels, prequels, remakes, and adaptations that are flooding the theaters the past decade, but this just looks horrible. And I honestly watched the trailer really hoping to take it seriously

I liked this movie better when it was called "Congo"

icu59hembVk

If you think about it, they're basically spiritually connected. Jurrasic Park took place in the jungle, the second ended up in the city. Congo was set in - the Congo, and the sequel is set in the city! OMG copy cats!!!!

Burtons remake was shit....just wanted to get that outta the way.

This has a chance....its sort of a take off the 4th film of the original POTA "Conquest of the planet of the apes."

Still,I'm skeptical...hopefully its not pure garbage.

Two things. One, that trailer was in the same style as Transformers. Just thought I'd throw that out there.

Secondly, they may be smart apes, but they're unarmed apes. If they pose that big of a threat, bomb the shit out of them and sacrifice a few humans to wipe the smart apes off the face of the planet. Or, if you don't want to be that drastic, just roll in the military (not National Guard) and just open fire on every ape you see. They have sticks and monkey shit, and we have tanks, rocket launchers and automatic weapons.

Saw it today. Not mindblowing, but it was good. The CG was better than the trailers and it laid nice groundwork for sequels. There were many reviews that said the apes were better actors than the humans...this is true. Franco was just ok. If they do the sequels right it could wind up being a quality reboot.

MannyIsGod
08-12-2011, 03:37 PM
That was actually fairly believable for me, tbh. I don't see why two different apes wouldn't be able to communicate if they both knew the same language. Way bigger scientific holes than that.

IT was set up for sequels.. The director is already talking about it.. They want to show the transition of how the apes completely took over the planet

http://filmonic.com/rise-of-the-planet-apes-sequel

you could start this story again eight years from where we left off, the next generation of apes, those that have come from our protagonists, perhaps going in to a conflict with humans and showing real fear, in the same way as going into war for young soldiers in this day and age, telling their story. Or how apes are taking over cities, and being moved into human environments and having to interact with them and deal with things that are part of our culture and understand and evolve through them. Spies that are in the employ of the apes,

MannyIsGod
08-13-2011, 11:49 AM
Thats interesting. Not sure how that scene promotes sequels though. It was obviously meant to show how they were going to spread the plauge which I felt was going to be the virtual end of mankind. Basically, the apes didn't have to fight them to take over the world. I guess I shouldn't be surprised the director wants to make sequels though. Its a shame because the movie would be really good just left alone as a lead in to the other films.

When the credits started, I whispered to my gf "that virus is going to end up wiping out 95% of humanity"...then 20 seconds later the last scene came up lulz.

I just took the very last scene as summing up what happens to humanity for the people that haven't seen the originals. I loved this movie. It makes me want to watch the originals again now.

Finally watched this on BRD on my home theatre.
8/10 and a worthy reboot IMO. I hope there are more POTA films to follow that are done this way.
I would have preferred a more brutally graphic realistic approach to apes pummeling cops on a bridge....not enough blood, but thats the game with film ratings these days(PG-13 is preferred by movie studio's vs R).

So many references to the original '68 classic in this film too...i liked that.
Looking forward to a sequel.
