That's just it. When you severely restrict firearms ownership, that only affects the law abiding. Criminals will still have guns, and a criminal who is prepared to rob, rape, or kill is not gonna give a shit about some "gun charge".
BTW, that incident exposed a flaw in the system. That hole has been closed. Still doesn't change the fact that if students were allowed to carry on campus, lives could've been saved that day.

Yes, I am one of those people who think that, but it doesn't make me an idiot. Guns SAVE lives, dude. Whenever concealed carry was made "shall issue", such as here in Florida, all the anti-gunners cried that there would be blood in the streets and all that, yet just the opposite happened...violent crime decreased markedly everywhere such legislation was enacted.
We could debate the morality of firearms ownership all day and night, but I only need to point to one piece of evidence...the Second Amendment. Our constitution guarantees the right of the people (individuals) to keep and bear arms. This is an individual right, not a collective one. This interpretation was confirmed in the Heller decision by the SCOTUS. It's the law in the United States. You can disagree with it if you wish, and that's your right, but owning guns is MY right.

Like I just said, when was the second amendment made? During a time when bearing arms was a necessity for survival. A democracy should be dynamic and able to adapt to the times. If it didn't, women wouldn't be able to vote, nor would blacks, and Kyle Orton would still be able to nail fifth graders. The second amendment argument are gun owners clutching at straws.

Increased on-campus security/police at multiple areas of a university would decrease the potential for such incident to reoccur. I.E., there should be multiple active security units within the area of a university.

The Second Amendment is just as applicable today as the 15th and 19th Amendments. As far as democracy goes, the vast majority of Americans support the right to keep and bear arms. 39 of the 50 states have "shall issue" concealed carry laws. Our people WANT to be able to have guns, and have made that voice heard loud and clear via our state and Federal legislatures.

Bad analogy. The US Constitution does not guarantee the right to snort cocaine nor the right to drive recklessly. It does, however, guarantee the right to own firearms.
Ownership of, and carrying of, firearms by law abiding citizens is not a public safety hazard. Guns don't commit crimes all by themselves. It takes a CRIMINAL to commit a crime.
You can pass all the laws you want, but criminals will still be able to get guns. You can't "un-invent" firearms.

No offense, but that "guns don't kill people" argument is so retarded. Guns give people the opportunity to cause harm at a scale they couldn't achieve without them. How many domestic disputes in the US end up with someone shot without the intent to kill, but still result in a murder?

Australain citizens have never been able to carry concealed weapons, so saying crime went up because Joe Citizen couldn't pull a piece on a liquor store robbery he stumbled upon makes no sense. The overwhelming majority of firearms in America are never used in a crime.
On the other hand, firearms in the hands of law-abiding citizens stop crimes over 2 million times a year in the United States. Most of the time, the mere presentation of the firearm is enough to stop the crime without any shots being fired.
No, I would know, because education in my country focuses on the world, not just my own nation.

There are, literally, millions of firearms in circulation in this country. You aren't putting the toothpaste back in the tube.
And the people saying a gun ban will only harm the law-abiding are absolutely right. There are so many firearms around that criminals who want one WILL be able to get one, gun ban or not.
You'll end up with a country where the only people with firearms are the exact people that shouldn't have one. If an Eric Harris or a George Sodini or a Cho want a gun, they'll get one regardless of whatever law you put up.
It'll be just like Prohibition or drug laws, except worse.

If they didn't have Wade, yeah. Obviously he has defects in his game but I've seen LeBron enough to know he's plenty capable of carrying a team on most occasions.
But really, LeBron's best role is as a Pippen. That's not a knock on him, just my view of what he's best suited as.
Bottom line is that Miami has, at worse, two of the top five players in the world- maybe two of the top three. It's ridiculous to say a team with two top-five players doesn't have a go-to guy.
Every time I hear "LBJ" I think El BJ.
I cannot help it.

Who was the first person to use the term "take"? As in, that's my "take" on the subject.
It's an informal in Websters.

Miami doesn't have a legit go-to player. Keep the game close, put the pressure on them and watch'em choke. Keep that Lebron choke highlight reel going.

Miami had too many go-to-guys, that's what happened. It was really showing that their roles weren't that defined even though it was touted in the media that Wade was their premiere closer. LeBron still has his ego, right?
Great fuckin thread... :wakeup
