Each time the Spurs lost the first playoffs game they won the championships.
History always repeats.
2003 lost the first home game against the Suns
Spurs=NBA champions
2005 lost the first home game against the Nuggets
Spurs=NBA champions
2007 lost the first home game against the Nuggets
Spurs=NBA champions
2011 lost the first home game against the Grizzlies
Spurs=?

But the difference is those years we didn't have a team to win it all and everybody knew that.
this year it feels different , we're the number one team in west and we have the team to win it all.
It's impossible that the Spurs lose a series against memphis

Yeah but we had a prime Timmy and Manu. We had role players with balls (Bowen, Horry) and we played defense. Our rotation right now consists of Bonner, Blair, RJ, Hill, and Neal. And I bet Pop would have benched most of them when he still preached defense.

"we have the team to win it all."

No, the 61 wins was full of flukey wins, a record of fool's gold.

No defense, depending on 3s, etc

The Spurs played pretty good defense against the Grizz for 3 quarters, they have to make it 4. Credit to Memphis for making the extra pass. Guys like Neal are going to have to come into their own because we're going to need his shooting like we needed Horry and Barry's.

This team is waaaay worse on defense. The uncontested threes and poor defense down low is making this team very vulnerable.

They may still win the series (if Manu can get back soon), but Memphis is being allowed to take a physical toll on the Spurs and no one is standing up.

The years we didnt win it all was not base on roster fault, it was more pops coaching methods...smallball killed us when he tried to implement that crap with our roster and going away from what was working for us

seriously how can't you be confident on a team who finished first in the west, with a big big bench, a fresh Duncan...
Do you think the other teams have Bowen, Horry, etc...?
No they are worst than us or at the same level but not better.
This is as simple like that.
then stop saying that the past spurs teams had Bowen, Horry, Great defense, etc...

Spurs’ Game 1 history only goes so far (http://blog.mysanantonio.com/spursnation/2011/04/18/spurs-game-1-history-only-goes-so-far/)
Jeff McDonald

...Yes, Popovich has been forced to acknowledge, ever since upstart Memphis swiped Game 1 of this first-round playoff series Sunday, his Spurs team has a habit of turning postseason-opening 0-1 deficits into NBA championships.

It happened in 2003. And in 2005. And again in 2007.

Turns out, there’s a good explanation for that.

“Because we were better than the team we were playing,” Popovich said.

This x 10000.. So strange how it always gets overlooked by fans, and even by the Spurs FO. Every single time we won a championship, Duncan had a 7'0" playing with him. Kind of boggles my mind that the FO doesn't put some serious weight behind that.

edit: You can also add Elson to that list.

To everyone slagging us off for Duncan for not being in his prime, Ginobili for not being 100%, for not having Horry or Bowen etc etc, we still finished top in the WC so we must be doing something right.

Just lucky with relatively few injuries. Dirk was injured or Mavs would have finished on top. LA was coasting - hard to maintain intensity after 3 runs to the Finals. OKC, Den - mid season trades. Por, NO - injuries.

Back in 03, 05 and 07, Pop was still sane and valued defense. I feel sorry for Barry and the very short chain he was on when I see Bonner/Blair out there.
