Does anyone know what kind of trade talk was going on between S.a and Portland during last summer? It was some deal but I never knew the exact trade proposal, I think oden was involved.
It was very low key.

Blazers are still high on him. They'll extend their qualifying offer and probably try and sign him to a long term deal. If I were a GM I'd try and get him a long term deal.

His Q.O. is almost $9M for one additional single season. That's a lot for a player who has played 82 of a possible 328 games in 4 seasons. It may be time to see what they can get for him.

Spurs should at least try to court and make a bid on him. A 1 year MLE contract is something I think the Spurs should take a chance on with him. IF he stays healthy he would be playing with a chip on his shoulder trying to earn a larger longerterm contract.

He is a legit rebounding/ defencive minded 7 footer, it just sucks with his luck on health.

I'd definitely take a flier on Oden..Spurs are at a point where they would have to take some risks, if they want to open the window a little, and Oden, despite his injuries, would be the type of player that could change a team(he no longer has the potential to be a #1 or #2 guy, but you can't teach his size/athleticism)..

Fuck that. I hear all the talk in Portland about Oden. Apparently the thing that kept him from playing this year was less about the injury itself and more about his effort rehabbing it. Don't need someone like that on the Spurs. TLongII might sport the homer glasses here in Porkland, but I don't. Oden is not worth the MLE any more that Matt Bonner was worth the extension or the playing time.

But just because portland didn't pick up his option, doesn't mean they won't match any offers for him. I think they want to wait and see what the market is for him out there and then choose to match it or not.

And unfortunately that won't happen...but you can't really ask anyone to just leave a guaranteed 21 million on the table especially nowadays. If Duncan resigned for a couple season at 10 million, that would be sweet.

Assuming he could stay healthy, it could be a good acquisition, I'll give you that. But if I was a GM I wouldn't risk taking on a player who's had major surgery on both knees in a 3 year span, and who's work ethic is substandard. SA is already stuck with two contracts for players who don't produce. Take on Oden and his knees continue to shit out, add another contract for another player who isn't producing.

I don't think Portland let him go but if possible it will be good for us having Oden.

Why is Oden loved so much? He hasn't proven to be capable of standing on his feet for a few games in a row. He's never going to be a 30 minute a game guy. I'd take a chance on him for the LLE but no way he gets signed on the cheap.

Buy low and sell high. Oden is pretty low right now and he does appear to be the type of player the Spurs need.

But a couple of negatives. First, young bigs (not named Duncan) don't seem to thrive under Pop's regime.

Second, the Blazers seem to question Oden's rehab work ethic.

I think Oden, if healthy and motivated, would solve a lot of the Spurs' concerns, but it is an "all-in" kind of move. Plus, it would necessitate Duncan evolving into the stretch 4 role more and maintaining his health and maximizing his productivity. It could be great, but would all greatly rely on health and the effectiveness of both Duncan and Oden.
Ultimately, if it does not completely drain your roster, you accept the risk on this one.

While I agree Oden may be done, I don't think he's trying to trick anybody into anything. He volunteered to give the Blazers about $7 Million last season (reducing his $8 Million deal to a $1 Million) after he found out he was going to miss the whole year due to another injury. I think he has enough money, and he doesn't want the reputation as someone who's just looking to screw teams over.

Fox Sport’s Sam Amico, AKA Greg Oden’s personal publicist, reports that the Spurs are among a handful of teams interested in the No. 1 pick in the 2007 draft, whose agent is “100 percent sure” he’ll be back in the NBA by next season.

“”He’s rehabbing and doing very well,” Oden’s agent, Michael Conley Sr., told Amico.
