A lot of people have Duncan between 6-8 all-time, usually around #7 from what I read and and he is also above Kobe on most people's list.

Most people know Kobe is a jump-shooting ballhog that needs 30 shots to score 30 points and great benefited from having a top 10 player all-time and probably the most dominant offensive force the NBA has ever seen at his peak, as well as a top 3 PF in today's NBA and a top 3 center.

It's hard to compare eras. Heck, look at the Boston Marathon today... The guy ran it in 2 hrs 3 mins! That's insane.

But that doesn't mean that the runners setting records in the 50s and 60s were "slow". With time comes advanced knowledge, technology, specialization, etc etc.

If you're talking head to head, then yeah, they're out of the running no question. But I think "all time" should include achievements in ones era. I think that's why Jordan will always be the greatest, because he just dominated nearly all competition in the 90s.

Bullshit. If Duncan played in the '80s, he's Brad Daugherty. And last I checked, Daugherty didn't win SHIT. Neal with it.

Dumb-shit. Kobe would have made the HOF with or with Shaq/Pau as teammates. You can debate on whether he would have won titles without them, but you cannot deny his talent/greatness.

It was an honest question actually, simple even, but I guess sometimes those are the ones that are the scariest.

Yeah Duncan is old in basketball terms, but he's a pretty smart player, which is why even though his contributions are limited, he's still making the right plays most of the time. Kobe's the same way, his smarts will get him far, but he's still immature, and to be honest if you think about it, people who don't mature when their 32 or 33 are probably never going to mature or have a hard time doing it.

If your a team player when your young, it's easier to be a team player till your older. If your selfish when your 30+, your most likely to be selfish till your 40+.

Which is why Shaq if you think about it, is MUCH MUCH more mature than Kobe, from a basketball point of view. Heck even KG, Paul Pierce and Ray Allen are the same, because they are willing to take a back seat, and let the game come to them.

Are you a Kobe fan or a Laker fan?

i'm actually curious. You seem to care more about individuality than the team itself.

Both.

I like the fact that Bryant rang twice to trump Daddy and then dropped the hammer at the news conference last June 17th. I love the fact that he rang and cut Media off at the pass after Colorado. They were gonna high tech lynch him outta Colorado by now if he hadn't rung. And you know what else? Bryant knew it.

And I'd love to get face-to-face with that glorious bastard long enough to tell him I know that he knew and he fucked 'em.

I love the fact that he's hunting Jordan. That he realizes that 7 is better than 6 and that is all he can do. Let "them" discuss it. He'll have the number. I love the fact that that is enough for Bryant.

Yeah, I'm a Bryant fan.

I address your pont in my prior post. Lodged it before I read the above. All Bryant can do is get to 7. He's intelligent enough & pathological enough to find true contentment with the raw total 7-6. He can enter his house justified at 7-6.

The organizations win championships, they later deliver the rings to the players on the playoffs roster.

Kobe wasn't the Lakers best player for the three-peat, neither was Shaq the best player of the Heat in 2006.

Duncan was the Spurs best player for the 4 Spurs championships. This year that probably won't be the case though.

Duncan top 8 and by consensus best at this position - Bryant who has never led a team without substantial talent anywhere is borderline top ten period.

Kobe by the way is a non gaudy #17 in PER all time NBA as well, while Duncan whose teams also have a higher winning percentage is top ten (9th).

PER is not a perfect stat but since Duncan has also been better defender during his career and is also top ten all time blocks, come back with a real arguement. Duncan is the better and more accomplished all around NBA player.

http://www.basketball-reference.com/leaders/per_career.html

I do not hate either by the way, just hate Bryant's actions especially his putting himself into the Denver situation - even though it was not enough to convict for rape it was enough for a civil settlement. The fact that the NBA is using Kobe in commercials is a sad commentary on values and the fact that any father would buy a jersey for his kid of Kobe reflects on different values than I have (my boy will never wear a KB jersey as long as he lives in my house).

Horry with 7 would be condered much better player than both, if your reasoning were right.

However, Horry rode the Hakeem's coat tail for 2 championships, then he rode Shaq's coat tail (as did Kobe) for another 3 ch, finally he rode Duncan's coat tail for another 2 ch.

Kobe was a great robin for the three-peat as Horry was a great role player. Neither can compare with Duncan.

He is in the ball park for sure just a handful of spots beneath Duncan with Kobe's pisspoor PER, over-rated pseudo clutch stats (see ESPN articles about that) and his carpet bagging onto Shaq, Gasol/Odom/Bynum for titles.

Kobe with the teams Duncan had may never have won a single title, but surely he would never have gotten 4 - he is just not as dominant all around as Duncan was.

Yeh because there is no salient arguement Kobe is superior except for spurious 5 titles arguement = the undisputed fact he was the 2nd option on three titles and could not deliver any more until Gasol came aboard but somehow those "5" titles outweigh Duncan's more substantial contribution to 4 - 3 at least as the undisputed main man. B.S. to that arguement.

That is very true, Kobe might not have won as much, but definitely he wouldn't have the impact Duncan has on the spurs.

But this is the world we live in where people like Dwight Howard win 3 straight defensive player of the year awards for his lazy defense.

People like Kobe is the best thing we will ever see to a player like MJ.

One interesting way to see it is this...

for the Spurs, the Leader of the team, Duncan, is silent and efficient, he just does his job and keeps silent about it. Not really screaming, punching team mates leading them to victory, that was Pop's Job.

For the Lakers, the leader of the team, Kobe, is flashy, loud and expects the best from his team mates to the point of screaming at them and punching at them. While PJ, is silent and let's these things happen.

So in conclusion we see that the Bench leader role can only garner 4 rings, while a floor leader can garner 5.

LOL, yet another "Who is greater, TD or KB?" thread.

First, it's next to impossible to compare players of different positions. You can argue all day and night who had more help to win their rings, and that won't prove a thing, especially when their teams took an absolute shit on the rest of the league winning as of now, 9 titles in 12 years.

As a general rule, big men are a bit more valuable that smaller guys, so the nod to greatest probably goes to TD. However, that said, in 40 years, likely neither one will be top 10 all time. Top 10 is too crowded. Example, Oscar Robertson retired second leading scorer and arguably 2nd greatest ever after Chamberlain. Now, 37 years later the Big O is tenth in scoring and on few fans' top 10 lists. Too many superstars yet to come to impress us beyond imagination.

I think TD needs to match KB in rings, or 40 years from now, KB will be considered the greater player. Top 10's are opinion anyway, you can't kick either out of the Hall of Fame.
