Duncan and company too strong for defending champs
SAN ANTONIO, TX, June 7 /PRNewswire/ - Sportsbook.com has posted odds on the NBA final and has listed the San Antonio Spurs a -240 favorite to beat the defending champions from Detroit. Sportsbook.com has also listed the Spurs' Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobli as 9-5 co-favorites to take home the NBA Finals MVP award.
The Pistons and Spurs split their regular season series, with each team winning by a small margin at home. Current odds indicate that trend will continue with the series destined to go at least six or seven games regardless of who wins.
"We're expecting this to be a very close series and our odds reflect that," said Alex Czajkowski, Marketing Director, Sportsbook.com. "The Spurs have home court advantage and are the more rested team right now. Those are some of the factors working to San Antonio's advantage in the early going."
Though Detroit won last year, they were a huge underdog with most fans betting on the Lakers. Predicting the winner this year will be a toss up and so too will be predicting who will win MVP honors.
"Most years there are one or two stars that each team is going to rely on. This year there are legitimately four or five guys on each team capable of carrying their club to the championship," said Czajkowski. "Players like Duncan, Ginobli and Parker for the Spurs and Hamilton, Billups and Rasheed and Ben Wallace for the Pistons can easily go off for 30 or 40 points a game or come up big down the stretch of a deciding game. The unpredictability this year is what will make the odds so appealing to bettors."
