In an article in Sports Illustrated today, Ian Thomsen refers to this NBA season thusly (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2011/writers/ian_thomsen/04/22/playoff.underdogs/index.html#ixzz1KIL0GYjC):

This has been the best NBA season of modern times, with more championship contenders than we've seen since before the days of Magic Johnson and Larry Bird. Now that competition is giving way to a playoffs that appears to be every bit as unpredictable.

I'm not sure I agree with that, and particularly I think it's premature coming to that conclusion one or two games into the first round of the playoffs...what do y'all think?

there are only 2 real championship contenders, the rest is just a bunch of hype and bullshit. there used to be 3, but one of them decided to trade away their defensive anchor

:wakeup cant wait to hear who the 2 championship contenders are

I think it's accurate. There are at least 3 contenders in the East and at least 5 contenders in the West.

2008 was a good year. if ginobili hadn't been playing through an injury, it would have been even more competitive and better.

There are 2 contenders: Miami and LA, with Boston as a darkhorse. The other teams are irrelevant.

The Stern stamp has already been placed on Chicago and OKC. These are the only two teams that are getting all the calls so far.
