That's a wierd list.
While disappoinitng - I would not rank this anywhere near the top 10
This team has not palyed well heading into the playoffs-best palyer is injured and they are playing a team that they do not match up well with. Hard to equate this or rank higher than the 95 WCF or even the 79 ECF

By the way- Malik being traded help the Spurs win a title.

The manu's foul on Dirk in 2006 ?

And 2011 should not be in the top 10 IMO. Except if you consider it like the official end of the Duncan era but his actual end was either 2008 or the day of his retirement.

2001 WCF beatdown by LA is by far the worst.

2006 Manu foul on Dirk is number 2.

This series is number 3.

how is losing to the 3 peat lakers even comparable to losing to 8th spot memphis?

this is gotta be the low point of the Spurs franchise. 60 wins, 1st in West and a 1st round beatdown.

Indeed. It's one thing to lose a heartbreaking Game 7 or to discover that a team that you thought was pretty good is just not quite good enough.

But to endure those 4 games in 2001 and the total quit of Games 3 and 4 is absolutely the lowest moment I've experienced as a Spurs fan.

Rose didn't do much after he was traded. He ran out his stay in San Antonio. That should not even be on this list.

at the moment that might have felt worse. But taken into context it not as bad since that LA team won it all.

Memphis will get raped in round 2. That's how bad these Spurs got beat. Lowest point in Spurs history no doubt.

one thing is to get beat by prime Shaq/Kobe/Jackson. Another thing by Zbo, the Fat Gasol and Conley

I suppose we'll agree to disagree. I've been watching the Spurs intently since the late 70's and, to me, it's unlikely that any moment will ever be worse than those 2 games in LA in May of 2001.

It's not that the Spurs were beaten in 2001 by a better team; it was that the Spurs were so destroyed, both physically and mentally in that series, that they ultimately quit -- not just in a quarter or for part of a game; they quit on the entirety of the last two games before those games even tipped off.

Even in losing a competitive series, you always have some basis to think that your team has a chance. In 2001, they weren't just beaten while retaining some hope that the result might change; they were totally dismantled.

I recognize who the 2001 Lakers were, but even their ultimate success that season has never justified the thrashing taken by that Spurs team or their capitulation to it.

This year is the most embarrassing moment in Spurs history. When a 1st seed is about to loose to a 8th seed which was a PO virgin 1 week ago, it is safe to admit the situation is quite ridiculous.
But it is nowhere as painful as 2004 or 2006 when the Spurs were about to repeat.

Unlike 3 or 4 years ago; we all know that, 1st seed or not, these Spurs are not contending anymore... not with such an inconsistent D and undersized/aging frontline.

Embarrassing: yes.
Painfull: not that much

Id say this year is the worst.............. because Memphis called it shot. They said they wanted the Spurs. They knew they could take us out. 1 vs 8.

Yup and the Spurs losing to Blazers 4-3 in 1990 Conference semifinals. Especially when they had 7 point lead with only couple minutes left in game and Rod Strickland threw that infamous no look pass to a player on Blazer team. If I remember correctly they also scored and fouled on that turnover.

Wasn't it also a flagrant foul so the Blazers also got the ball back.

1.) .4 - that was the most pain i had felt. I didn't sleep that night, I remember thinking after the Duncan shot that was his moment, this was the shot that everybody will remember him by. And we go on to beat the lakers in 6. NOPE, heart ripped out in .4 seconds.

2.) Game 7 vs Mavs - we saw our team fight back from the brink of elimination not once but twice. Now we had homecourt again. All we had to do is win a home game. Then Mavs went up by 15 or 20 right away. But as we clawed our way back, memories of Memorial Day Miracle would come back. Then Manu hit the 3 to give us our FIRST lead of the game with 30 seconds remaining, I KNEW it was meant to be. I KNEW that was our year, and I KNEW we would finally repeat. But what I really only knew was that my heart would take a while to recover after the pain of seeing the spurs get knocked out in OT.

3.) Series vs Lakers 2001 - We had a solid team. We were old but we were still really good. The Derek Anderson injury sucked but I thought we had enough defensive pieces to slow down the Lakers. We had won the season series against them that year so in my head i was thinking we have this in the bag. Wow I was wrong. The first 2 games were somewhat competitive, though we were at home. Losing those 2 at home was very deflating. The fans felt it, and you could tell that the players felt it as well. But hope was still there, remember Spurs coming back in 95 against the rockets after losing the first 2 at home. So we were down but far from out. But then game 3 tipped off and it was the beginning of an annihilation. THAT was as low as I felt. That game right there. Sick feeling to my stomach, I thought I was having a nightmare but it was all too real. (But that feeling right there made 2003 oh so glorious)

4.) 2nd half of Game 4 vs Grizzlies - i had back to back nightmares this past weekend of spurs losing game 4 and being blown out at home in game 5 to lose the series. I woke up happy it was just a nightmare but spurs were down 2-1 at the time and it left me with a sick feeling. Now while watching yesterdays first half, it left me thinking thats its going to be a 50/50 game, whoever makes the plays at the end will win it. Then as the 3rd quarter started and they hit the 1st shot, then another, then we miss again, then they get ft's, then we turn it over, then they get more ft's, then another turnover. Then the play that made me feel sinking 2001 vs Lakers feeling was parker penetrating and shoots, gets blocked, grizzlies on fast break and they throw an alley oop to arthur I believe. It was falling apart. And I still feel the pain now. My nightmare is coming to reality. FORTUNATELY, our next game IS at home. Thats the only hope I can hold on to right now, that we will win because we are at home. And yes, a comeback to win this series would be all that much sweeter (even if we didn't win the championship) but i just want this pain to go away.

Re-signing of Bonner and RJ this last off-season takes the cake for me. I still can't believe the FO had a chance to get rid of both in one stroke, but instead they give them long term and high priced contracts. Oh well...

For as annoying as the "I smell skunk" stupidity that sweep spawned, it's tough for me to take that Suns loss too hard. I didn't hold any illusions of a championship run that year and it came after taking down the Mavericks, which is always a treat.

I guess that Manu's foul on Dirk cost us a championship, maybe a repeat, even a Three-peat.

The 06 Suns and the Heat were no match for the 06 Spurs.

But without Manu, I don't think the Spurs would have won the titles in 2005 and 2007, let alone coming back from 1-3 deficit in that series against Mavs.

So it was a kind of give-and-take... which turned out to be more of take for the Spurs.
